Shemoth (Exodus) 18

Lesson date: 11/06/5855AA

Verse 1 – Yithro = Re’uel =Mosheh’s father-in-law. There are 27 verses in Chapter 18 and the term father-in-law is mentioned thirteen times. Maybe this is trying to tell us something.

What do we know about Re’uel? He is the priest of Midyan and his name means “friend of El” (H7467). The term for father-in-law literally means “To give a daughter away” or “wife’s father”. Yithro taught Mosheh about sheep herding, Mosheh, upon seeing the burning bush, requested permission of Yithro to go back to Mitsrayim to get his brethren out of slavery. Consider the fact that at 80 years of age Mosheh could have been twice his father-in-law’s age and after herding sheep for 40 years Mosheh is now herding the sheep of Yisra’el for YHVH.

Shemoth (Exodus) 19

Lesson date: 11/13/5855AA

Verses 1-2 – This is the 11th stop for the Children of Yisra’el since their journey began 3 months ago. They departed Rephidim and have now arrived at the Wilderness of Sinai. We have discussed how the word for “wilderness” is “midbar” and the root word is “dabar” = word. “Midbar” can also mean mouth. Also, that the root for “Sinai” is “Sin” the name of the male moon god deity. Sinai can mean “thorny” and if we put the two words together we see that YHVH brought the Children of Yisra’el to Sinai to prick the hearts of Yisra’el with words from a thorny mouth or said another way YHVH brought the Children of Yisra’el to a “thorny place” to prick their hearts to receive Torah. ((I have still not completed the set of the new computer and do not have the “early semitic” font loaded into Open Office yet. Sorry.))

Shemoth (Exodus) 20 — The 10 Words of Our Bridegroom

Lesson date: 11/20/5855AA

Verse 1 – I will probably delve further into verse 1 than I should but it is so pivotal for everything that comes after it. “And Elohim spoke” this is not an empty statement. It does not say that Mosheh spoke or anyone else spoke but Elohim spoke. Now let’s look at the verb for “spoke”: H1696 – דָּבַר – dâbar – daw-bar’ – A primitive root; perhaps properly to arrange; but used figuratively (of words) to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue: – answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use [entreaties], utter, X well, X work.

Shemoth (Exodus) 21 — Right-Rulings

Lesson date: 11/27/5855AA

Verse 1 – We see in the beginning of this chapter that it is a direct continuation of Chapter 20 verse 21. The Children of Yisra’el expressed their fear of hearing the voice of Elohim and moved away from hearing His Voice “but Moshe drew near the thick darkness where Elohim was.”

Jas_4:8 Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!

Mishpat(im) – H4941 – Judgement(s), right-rulings: Psa 97:2 Clouds and darkness all around Him, Righteousness and right-ruling are the foundation of His throne. David perfectly describes what Mosheh saw.

The legislative bodies in our nation approve approximately 150,000 new laws every year but in our Creator’s Kingdom the same laws have been in effect since time began. If we keep these laws we can be assured of living a righteous life in relation to our Master Continue reading Shemoth (Exodus) 21 — Right-Rulings

Shemoth (Exodus) 22 — Right-Rulings

Lesson date: 12/5/5855AA

Verses 1-4 – These verses expound on the 8th and 10th Words. We see a difference between the theft of a sheep and an ox. Why?

If a thief is found stealing at night and killed there is no sin against the person who killed him but, if the sun comes up and the thief is killed by the homeowner then there is sin. This is expounding on the 6th Word. We see the contrast between light and darkness, knowledge and truth as the opposite of paganism. Maybe this verse is referring to more than just stealing material goods. Continue reading Shemoth (Exodus) 22 — Right-Rulings

Shemoth (Exodus) 23

Preface: I think all of you know that as of December 2013 I began praying that YHVH would take the Greek out of my life. I am not talking about the language, which I still struggle through, but rather the mindset. Everything in our life today is taught to us from the Greek point of view, how we view time, many of our words, how we use science as a standard of judgment, law is rooted in Greek philosophy, etc. I have been struggling to comprehend a greater portion or position in Hebrew above and beyond my Greek training. Greek teaches us that if we can prove a matter scientifically, mathematically or empirically it must be true or real. It has occurred to me over the last few months that the proper perspective to view Hebrew is as an art form rather than a combination of algorithms that somehow converge at a single point to convey meaning. Shemoth (Exodus) 24 — Sealing the Covenant

Lesson date: 12/19/5855AA

Verse 1-2 – These verse is making it clear that the covenant is not just with the Tribe of Levi but all of Yisra’el. Not only is Mosheh instructing to bring Aharon, Nadab and Abihu but the 70 elders of Yisra’el. Please note that it is not an accident that the number of elders is 70 but is in fact Scriptural and represents the entirety of Yisra’el: Gen 46:27 And the sons of Yosěph who were born to him in Mitsrayim were two beings. All the beings of the house of Ya‛aqoḇ who went to Mitsrayim were seventy.

Now, look at the sequence of the names in this verse of Scripture: Continue reading Shemoth (Exodus) 24 — Sealing the Covenant

Shemoth (Exodus) 25

Lesson date: 12/26/5855AA

Verses 1-2 –  YHVH instructs Mosheh to have the Children of Yisra’el to give Him a voluntary gift – terumah – H8641 – a contribution, gift, set as special special. Who is responsible for giving the gift? Everyone whose heart – leb -H3820** – heart, inner man, mind, will – moves- Nadab – H5068 generous, willingness, desire, eagerness and also the Name of Aharon’s sons who died for offering profane fire. In this case we see that the man did not live up to the measure of his name. The idea of the contribution is above and beyond Continue reading Shemoth (Exodus) 25

Shemoth (Exodus) 26

Lesson date: 1/03/5856AA

Today I will do things a little differently, in that I will not treat each verse separately because of the nature of this chapter. I will post, or try to post, an artist’s conception of the Dwelling Place which is being described. In last week’s study guide I gave you some drawings and by putting the two sets together we can get a very good idea of how the Dwelling Place may have looked. Also, if you watch the Youtube video by Sarah Lieberman, Fire of your Spirit, it too will give you a very good idea what the Dwelling Place must have looked like as it was filmed at the Tabernacle in Israel. Shemoth (Exodus) 27

Lesson date: 1/10/5856AA

I will borrow the image from the study guide of last week to show the approximate placement of the bronze slaughter place within the courtyard

Just to the left, facing the slaughter place or altar in the painting would be the gate/entrance into the courtyard.

Verses 1-8 – As I have mentioned before, and this is my opinion, not established fact, I believe that Mosheh used the measure of the “royal” cubit a/k/a the “extended” cubit in the construction of the dwelling place and everything associated with it. Why? The royal cubit was the primary measure in Egypt and with Mosheh’s training in the royal court and also military he would have been more familiar with the use of the royal cubit. I believe that it fell out use after Mosheh and Yehoshua’s deaths and the Children of Yisra’el began using the shorter or standard cubit afterward. The resulting difference in length and width of the cubit would total 8.5 feet rather than 7.5 feet and its height would have been 5.1 feet rather than 4.5 feet. Also, I believe that the use of the royal cubit was so unfamiliar to the Children of Yisra’el by Ezekiel’s time that YHVH had to specify its length in Ezekiel 40:5 & 43:13.
