Bemidbar (Numbers) 36

Lesson date: 3/10/5854

At first examination of Chapter 36 we see the predicament of the daughters of Tselophhad being brought up once again.

MahlahH4244 מחלה – machlâh – BDB Definition:Mahlah = disease or sickness.
No’ahH5270 נעה – nô‛âh – BDB Definition:Noah = motion or movement. This name is not to be confused with H5146 – נֹחַ – nôach – The same as H5118; rest; Noach, the patriarch of the flood: – Noah. Notice that the meanings are diametrically opposed to each other. The KJV makes it appear as though these two names are the same and they are not.
Hoglah – H2295 – חגלה – choglâh – BDB Definition: Hoglah = partridge.
Milkah – H4435 – מלכּה – milkâh – BDB Definition: Milcah = queen.
Tirtsah – H8656 – תּרצה – tirtsâh – BDB Definition: Tirzah = favourable.

Please permit me to expound on these names: Continue reading Bemidbar (Numbers) 36

It’s About TIME!

Lesson date: 09/12/5859AA

About the only time people think about time is when they have too little of it to do what they desire, want or need(?) to do. One of my favorite questions that I ask people relative to time is: “How many people on their death bed wish they had enough time to spend one more day at work?” I can think of a lot of things that I wish I had the time to do besides go to work, i.e. make love to your mate, hold your children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren one more time and tell them that you love them, or perhaps to make a decision to serve YHVH just one time like He desires us to do. I think any or all of these would be preferable to going to work.

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 1-3

Lesson date: 04/13/5856AA

Chapter 1

Verse 1 – Wayyiqra – H7121 – from qara – “And He called”. This is the fourth time we see this word used with reference to Mosheh.

1.= Exo 3:4 And יהוה saw that he turned aside to see, and Elohim called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Mosheh! Mosheh!” And he said, “Here I am.”

YHVH calls out to Mosheh to establish a relationship with him and teaches Mosheh His Name.

2.= Exo 19:3 And Mosheh went up to Elohim, and יהוה called to him from the mountain, saying, “This is what you are to say to the house of Ya‛aqoḇ, and declare to the children of Yisra’ěl:

Exo 19:4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Mitsrites, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Continue reading Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 1-3

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 4-5

Lesson date:4/19/5856AA

Chapter 4

Verses 1-2 Sinning by mistake. H2398 – חטא – châṭâ’ – BDB Definition: 1) to sin, miss, miss the way, go wrong, incur guilt, forfeit, purify from uncleanness

H7684 – שׁגגה – shegâgâh – BDB Definition: 1) sin, sin of error or inadvertence, inadvertent sin 1a) error

This is why Yeshua exhorts us to not take our eyes off of the goal or target: Luk_9:62 But יהושע said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the reign of Elohim.”

The only way to plow a straight row is to fix our eyes on a single point at the far end of the field and plow straight for it, never taking our eyes off of the goal. The old timers used to say, “Find your point at the end of the field and put it between the mules ears and plow straight for it.” Our “mark”, “point” or target is Yeshua’s example: 1Jn 2:6 The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked. Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 6

Lesson date: 4/26/5856AA

Verses 1-4 – The Sins – We have already talked about the word for sin – Chata – H2398 so, I would like to look at the word(s) used for “commit trespass” –

H4603 – מעל – mâ‛al – BDB Definition: 1) to act unfaithfully, act treacherously, transgress, commit a trespass

H4604 – מעל – ma‛al – BDB Definition: 1) unfaithful or treacherous act, trespass

As you see they are virtually the same word used twice to show the gravity of the sin but the primary meaning for H4603 is “to cover up” or “to act covertly”. Unfortunately, we are only too familiar with the intent of this word in our world today but let me give you an example from Scripture: Act 5:1 But a certain man named Ḥananyah, with Shappirah his wife, sold a possession. Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 7

Lesson date: 5/3/5856AA

Verse 1 – This verse sounds much like Chapter 5 but the difference is that in Chapter 5 you were guilty if you heard someone else commit a trespass or guilt and now in Chapter 7 it is our own guilt. The Guilt Offering is much like the ascending offering and as believers in the Messiah we know that Yeshua was the good and perfect sacrifice for our guilt(sins). We must confess our guilt so that the sacrifice Yeshua made can be complete: Joh 3:16 “For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life.

It does not say shall not but rather should not. We have to believe in Yeshua’s sacrifice, repent and then walk according to YHVH’s instructions(Torah).

As a Christian, I was always told that “God’s” love was unconditional. But if you search the Scripture, any version, there is no word “unconditional” used. Continue reading Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 7

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 8 — Clothed in Righteousness

Lesson date: 5/10/5856AA

Verses 1-5 – It is obvious that there is about to be a sacrifice but it will also be a meal. It is going to be a very special meal and it will take place for 7 days. But before Aharon and his sons attend this meal they must be dressed in the proper attire. But, before this can happen the “royal priesthood” must be washed: Rev_7:14 And I said to him, “Master, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those coming out of the great distress, having washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Here we see Mosheh taking on the role of intermediary between the royal priesthood and YHVH. For us today, Yeshua is our intermediary between the royal priesthood and YHVH: 1Pe_2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, Continue reading Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 8 — Clothed in Righteousness

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 9 — The Eighth Day

Lesson date: 5/17/5856AA

Verse 1 – The first verse begins “And it came to pass” and then it says “Ha shemini”. Ha simply equals “the” and shemini equals 8th and the word “day” is implied. We have a feast and now we arrive at the 8th day of the feast. When we see an 8th day we should immediately think, “A New Beginning”.

  • Way. 12:2-3 – A male child is circumcised or begins a covenant relationship
  • Way. 14: 8-10 – A leper is cleansed for 7 days and “restored” on the 8th day
  • Way. 15: 13-14 – One who had an issue is cleansed for 7 days and restored on the 8th day
  • Way. 15: 28-29 – A woman is cleansed from her monthly separation and restored on 8th day
  • Way. 22:27 – A bullock, lamb or goat is acceptable for an offering after the 8th day

These are just a few of the examples where individuals are separated for seven days and then on the eighth day they begin their life anew. Continue reading Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 9 — The Eighth Day

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 10 — Our own way

Lesson date: 5/17/5856AA

Verses 1-2 – Imagine the excitement of possibly just the day before. Everyone was excited and had seen the installation of Aharon as High Priest and his sons as priests. The entire camp had seen the fire come down from YHVH and consume the offerings. The Children of Yisra’el, if they had ever had a doubt that YHVH was their One True Elohim, that doubt was dispelled at that moment.

Perhaps it was this excitement that caused Nadab and Abihu to forget the careful instructions that their uncle had given them. Perhaps Aharon had even cautioned them about being careful in the administration of the duties of priests before they set out that morning. Whatever the reason these two men intentionally or otherwise, did something they were not supposed to do. Have we no fear of YHVH?

In today’s world we see people worship “God” and “Jesus” with rock bands, all types of “signs” and “wonders” and literally making a show of worshipping the Most High. Is this what we are supposed to do?

Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 11 — “Hey Grandpa, what’s for supper?”

Lesson date: 5/24/5856AA

Verses 1+ – Here is a chapter of Wayyiqra that the “church” feels has no bearing on them. “The dietary laws were done away with by “Jesus”, right?” Many times, when people what to argue this they will quote: Mar 7:18 And He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside is unable to defile him,
Mar 7:19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purging all the foods?”

If you look at the phrase “and is eliminated” you see that it literally means “goes into the toilet”. The translated just chose to less graphic. G856 – ἀφεδρών – aphedrōnaf-ed-rone‘ – From a compound of G575 and the base of G1476; a place of sitting apart, that is, a privy:

The word for puging is G2511 – καθαρίζω – katharizōkath-ar-id’-zo – From G2513; to cleanse (literally or figuratively): – (make) clean (-se), purge, purify. This is the Greek word that we get the English word catharsis from. Continue reading Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 11 — “Hey Grandpa, what’s for supper?”
