Verse 1 – הַאֲזִינוּ – ‘ha’azinu’ “Give ear” comes from H238 – אָזַן – ‘âzan – aw-zan’
A primitive root; probably to expand; but used only as a denominative from H241; to broaden out the ear (with the hand), that is, (by implication) to listen: – give (perceive by the) ear, hear (-ken).
The meaning is “cup your hand around your ear” but it goes deeper than this it is much like “shama” you hear by obeying. That is why I titled this lesson “Listen up!” because the verb form here makes this a command, not an option.
Once again we see Mosheh calling the heavens and the earth to witness what he is about to say.
Deu 4:26 “I shall call the heavens and earth to witness against you on that day, that you soon completely perish from the land which you pass over the Yardĕn to possess – you do not prolong your days in it but are completely destroyed.
Deu_30:19 “I have called the heavens and the earth as witnesses today against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore you shall choose life, so that you live, both you and your seed,
Deu_31:28 “Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, so that I speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to witness against them.
Why do this again? Because heaven and earth are witnesses to Creation and will remain witnesses until the “Full Week” ((7,000 years)) is completed. When heaven and earth “pass away” then too will Torah.
Mat_5:18 “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.
In fact, we see an almost identical appeal to the heavens and earth as witnesses to the evil of Judah: Isa 1:2 Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth! For יהוה has spoken, “I have reared and brought up children, but they have transgressed against Me.
Verse 2 – Another word that is very important in the context that it is used is the word for instruction: H3948 – לֶקַח – leqach – leh’-kakh From H3947; properly something received, that is, (mentally) instruction (whether on the part of the teacher or hearer); also (in an active and sinister sense) inveiglement: – doctrine, learning, fair speech.
Deu 24:1 “When a man takes a wife and shall marry her, then it shall be, if she finds no favour in his eyes because he has found a matter of uncoveredness in her, and he shall write her a certificate of divorce, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house,
Num 12:1 Now Miryam and Aharon spoke against Mosheh because of the Kushite woman whom he had taken, for he had taken a Kushite woman.
Have you ever had someone say or ask: “here is the take away” or “what is the take away of this decision”? Aren’t we asking “what is the gist of it?” or “what is the meaning of it?”
Next, is the word for speech – ‘speech’ is אִמְרָה imrah – Strong’s H565. What makes it important? This word is most often used for Word: Psa 12:6 The Words of יהוה are clean Words, Silver tried in a furnace of earth, Refined seven times.
Psa 18:30 The Ěl – His way is perfect; The Word of יהוה is proven; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Psa 119:140 Your Word is tried, exceedingly; And Your servant has loved it.
Pro 30:5 Every Word of Eloah is tried; He is a shield to those taking refuge in Him.
Pro 30:6 Do not add to His Words((debarim here)), Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.
Mosheh says that YHVH’s Words will be “Like rain and the dew”, soft, nurturing and like all rain it must “sink in” in order to be of use to the roots of the plants. Otherwise, in the rain falls fast and hard it will either suffocate the plants or run off too quickly to be of use.
Mic 5:7 And the remnant of Yaʽaqob shall be in the midst of many peoples, as dew from יהוה, as showers on the grass, which do not wait for man nor delay for the sons of men.
Prepare to be blown away!!! The first translation is the KJV. Be aware of the phrase “former rain moderately”
Joe 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Now compare the KJV to the ISR: Joe 2:23 And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you the Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.
How did we get there? Look: H4175 – מוֹרֶה – môreh – mo-reh’ – From H3384; an archer; also teacher or teaching; also the early rain (see H3138): – (early) rain.
This is the Strong’s definition for H6666 – צְדָקָה – tsedâqâh – tsed-aw-kaw’: From H6663; rightness (abstractly), subjectively (rectitude), objectively (justice), morally (virtue) or figuratively (prosperity): – justice, moderately, right (-eous) (act, -ly, -ness).
And now the BDB – H6666 – צדקה – tsedâqâh – BDB Definition: 1) justice, righteousness 1a) righteousness (in government) 1a1) of judge, ruler, king 1a2) of law 1a3) of Davidic king Messiah 1b) righteousness (of God’s attribute) 1c) righteousness (in a case or cause) 1d) righteousness, truthfulness
1e) righteousness (as ethically right) 1f) righteousness (as vindicated), justification, salvation 1f1) of God 1f2) prosperity (of people) 1g) righteous acts
Part of Speech: noun feminine
How do we know which is correct? Here is a hint, the word right before H4175 is H853 (את).
Psa 119:123 My eyes have pined away for Your deliverance, And for the word of Your righteousness.
Psa 119:172 My tongue sings of Your word, For all Your commands are righteousness.
Isa 45:23 “I have sworn by Myself, a word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, so that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue swear.
Verse 3 – “Proclaim the Name of YHVH” (Amein) Proclaim = H7121 – קָרָא – qârâ’ – kaw-raw’ A primitive root (rather identical with H7122 through the idea of accosting a person met); to call out to (that is, properly address by name, but used in a wide variety of applications): – bewray [self], that are bidden, call (for, forth, self, upon), cry (unto), (be) famous, guest, invite, mention, (give) name, preach, (make) proclaim (-ation), pronounce, publish, read, renowned, say.
Joe 2:32 “And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of יהוה shall be delivered. For on Mount Tsiyon and in Yerushalayim there shall be an escape as יהוה has said, and among the survivors whom יהוה calls.
Verse 4 – The Rock! H6697 = הַצּוּר ‘hatsur’, H = The. Now look at it in pictographic:
e = behold, reveal, revelation
y = to recline, to lay oneself down
f = nail, secure, attach
r = head, leader
Behold! The one who lays down His life will secure us to our Head/Leader.
Verses 5-6 – A call to come out of the sin of the world.
Verse 7 – Remember the Old Days ((when My people were faithful)) Jer 6:16 Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’
Psa 119:52 I remembered Your right-rulings of old, O יהוה, And I comfort myself.
Verses 8-9 – We have discussed this many times before. The oldest versions of scripture show that it was actually supposed to read “According to the number of the children of Elohim” not the children of Yisra’el.
Verse 10 – Apple of His eye – H380 – אִישׁוֹן – ‘ı̂yshôn – ee-shone’ Diminutive from H376; the little man of the eye; the pupil or ball; hence the middle (of night): – apple [of the eye], black, obscure. Psa 17:8 Guard me as the apple of Your eye. Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
Pro 7:2 Guard my commands and live, And my Torah as the apple of your eye.
Verse 11 – Once again Christianity has invented a beautiful picture, a mother eagle carrying her young on her back and then dropping them to teach her young to fly. Hooey! This is a Hebraism to illustrate YHVH’s care of His children.((Remember, Christianity invented a gate in Jerusalem called the “eye of the needle” because of the mistranscription of the word gamala = large rope, not gemal = camel.))
Exo 19:4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Mitsrites, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
They walked the whole way but YHVH protected them each step of the way.
Verses 12-14 – Examples of caring for Yisra’el.
Verse 15 – Yeshurun “upright one” term of endearment for Yisa’el. Putting 12-14 & 15-21 together we get a very accurate picture of America today. YHVH gave us the bounty and we grew fat and turned away from Him as a nation.
A note on verse 18: neglected = H7876 – שׁיה – shâyâh BDB Definition: 1) (Qal) to forget, deprive
This is the only time in scripture that this word is used.
Verses 21 – 27 = Judgement.
Verses 28-43 = A lost people are deaf to sound counsel.
Quotation: “If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.” Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson’s quote applies to the people of America but it is just as appropriate for the Children of Yisra’el. If we expect to be ignorant of Torah and remain a free nation we are expecting the impossible.
Verse 44 – Please notice that Hoshea is used and NOT Yehoshua. I beleve that there is a reason for this in Semitic culture. I believe Joshua is writing this down and chose not to “elevate” himself in this account.
Joh_20:2 So she ran and came to Shimʽon Kĕpha, and to the other taught one whom יהושע loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Master out of the tomb, and we do not know where they laid Him.”
Joh_21:7 That taught one whom יהושע loved then said to Kĕpha, “It is the Master!” Then Shimʽon Kĕpha, hearing that it was the Master, put on his outer garment – for he was stripped – and plunged into the sea.
Joh_21:20 And Kĕpha, turning around, saw the taught one whom יהושע loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Master, who is the one who is delivering You up?”
2Co_12:2 I know a man in Messiah who fourteen years ago – whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, Elohim knows – such a one was caught up to the third heaven.
In the three verses in John and the verse in 2 Corinthians the authors are referring to themselves in the third person to lower themselves in the eyes of the reader. I believe that Joshua did the same thing in verse 44.

The Song of Mosheh ((The Renewed Song))
What is the purpose of this song? Why do I call it the Renewed Song? We have to go back to Chapter 31 to find the answer in Verse 26: Deu 31:19 “And now write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Yisra’ěl. Put it in their mouths, so that this song is to Me for a witness against the children of Yisra’ěl.
When Israel turns away from serving YHVH and all the plagues come upon His People and they want YHVH to save them from the plagues, they will sing this to incriminate themselves in their own disobedience. It is called repentance. It is the song that will have to be sung by those going through the trials in the End Time: Rev_14:3 And they sang a renewed song before the throne, and before the four living creatures, and the elders. And no one was able to learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.
Verse 1 – Ha’zinu – to give ear (literally) but it means to try to listen harder by placing or, cupping your hand to your ear in order to hear better. Moshe is telling the heavens and the Earth, the two permanent witnesses that will forever be able to testify against us, as unfaithful children of YHVH, that we have turned from YHVH’s WORD, His Torah, and followed other gods. These are the same 2 witnesses invoked by Yeshu’a: Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to complete.
Mat 5:18 “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.
((Deb. 4:26; Deb. 30:19; Yesh. 1:2; Yir. 2:12-13; 6:19; 22:9))
When will the heaven and the Earth pass away? Never! It will be renewed: Rev 21:1 And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth, for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more.
Mosheh instructed them to place the Book of this Torah BESIDE the Ark, not in it. If it is in the Ark it cannot be seen. The Ark represents the Throne of Elohim and it should be carried in this manner so, that if you sat between the two cherubim you could see where you are going. If this represents YHVH’s Throne, where would Yeshu’a be? Beside the Ark to the right hand of YHVH. Yeshu’a is the Word. The walking, talking teaching Torah. Now, remember, the Throne of our Elohim is a chariot, the same one we see in Ezekiel 1 and also here: 2Ki 2:11 And it came to be, as they continued on and spoke, that see, a chariot of fire with horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Ěliyahu went up by a whirlwind into the heavens.
2Ki 2:12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Yisra’ěl and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garments and tore them into two pieces.
Verse 2 – This is a very important concept, “Let my instruction fall as rain”
It was missed by the translators of the KJV: Joe 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
The idea that instruction falls as rain from the instructor is completely missed by the translators. It is why Sha’ul said: Act_22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
The student sat at the feet of the teacher/instructor so that the teaching could “rain” down on the student. Here is the better translation of Yoel: Joe 2:23 And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you the Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.
It goes from being a weather forecast to being a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah and look what it calls Him, the Teacher of Righteousness. He came to teach us Torah – Righteousness.
H4175 – מורה – môreh – BDB Definition: 1) (early) rain 2) teacher
The next part of this verse is very important – instruction – H3948 – לקח – leqach – BDB Definition: learning, teaching, insight. This word comes from H3947 – לקח – lâqach – BDB Definition: 1) to take, get, fetch, lay hold of, seize, receive, acquire, buy, bring, marry, take a wife, snatch, take away
Do you see it? In order for YHVH to take His Bride and marry her she has to follow His Teaching – Instruction – Torah: Deu 24:1 “When a man takes a wife and shall marry her, then it shall be, if she finds no favour in his eyes because he has found a matter of uncoveredness in her, and he shall write her a certificate of divorce, and put it in her hand, and send her out of his house,
Num 12:1 Now Miryam and Aharon spoke against Mosheh because of the Kushite woman whom he had taken, for he had taken a Kushite woman.
Verse 3 – Proclaim the Name – H7121 – qara – to call out, publish, proclaim. Look at all the versions of Scripture that have hidden YHVH’s Name and instead called Him God or Lord – H1168 – בּעל – ba‛al – BDB Definition: Baal = “lord”. Now, should we be calling YHVH El Shaddai – Lord? Exo 20:7 “You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to naught, for יהוה does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.
Verse 4 – The Rock. This is no mere title which has a very deep meaning and I will talk about it in my study on the Threshing Floor of Arawnah. It has a very specific meaning and we see it over and over in Scripture, especially in prophecy and Psalms which is the largest book of prophecy in Scripture.
1Co 10:1 For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
1Co 10:2 and all were immersed into Mosheh in the cloud and in the sea,
1Co 10:3 and all ate the same spiritual food,
1Co 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.
Verse 5 – Twisted – H6141 – iqqesh – Twisted, perverted, crooked and H6618 – pethaltol – tortuous, crooked. And, H7843 – shahath – perverse, corrupt.
Psa 50:16 But to the wrong Elohim said, “What right have you to recite My laws, Or take My covenant in your mouth,
Psa 50:17 “While you hated instruction And cast My Words behind you?
Luk 13:25 “When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Master, Master, open for us,’ and He shall answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’
Luk 13:26 then you shall begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’
Luk 13:27 “But He shall say, ‘I say to you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’
Luk 13:28 “There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Aḇraham and Yitsḥaq and Ya‛aqoḇ and all the prophets in the reign of Elohim, and yourselves thrown outside.
Wait a minute! When you see these heroes of the “Old” Testament in the Kingdom of Elohim and I am thrown outside? How did that happen? Why did He say Matthew Mark and John or some other “New” Testament hero?
Verse 6 – This is an appeal to YHVH”s people to recognize how foolish we are by rejecting His Word.
Jer 4:22 “For My people are foolish, they have not known Me. They are stupid children, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.”
Jer 5:21 Hear this now, O foolish people without heart, who have eyes and see not, and who have ears and hear not:
Jer 5:22 Do you not fear Me?’ declares יהוה. ‘Do you not tremble at My presence, who have placed the sand as the boundary of the sea, by an everlasting law, and it does not pass over it? Though its waves toss to and fro, they are not able; though they roar, they do not pass over it.
Jer 5:23 But this people has a backsliding and rebellious heart, they have turned aside and gone away.
Verse 7 – Remember the Days of Old – The word used for “old” is H5796 is – olam – long duration, antiquity, ancient times, ages, eternal, everlasting, forevermore: Jer 6:16 Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’ “That Torah is the Old Testament and Jesus did away with that.”
Verses 8-14 – This is a recounting of what YHVH did for His people. It is very much like Shem. 20:2 in that it is a “bona fide” statement.
Now, we need to correct Verse 8: According to the number of the children of Yisra’ěl.
First off, it makes no sense in context, that is our first clue that something is wrong but, if we go to the two oldest existing Scriptures still available today we find a different word being employed which makes perfect sense: Deu 32:8 When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the nations according to the number of the angels of God. ((Septuagint))
The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible uses the words “Sons of God” in one translation and another says “Children of God”. This makes sense and matches what we read in Psalms: Psa 82:1 Elohim stands in the congregation of Ěl; He judges in the midst of the elohim.
Psa 82:2 How long would you judge perversely, And show partiality to the wrong? Selah.
Psa 82:3 Give right-ruling to the poor and fatherless, Do right to the afflicted and needy.
Psa 82:4 Rescue the poor and needy; Deliver them from the hand of the wrong.
Psa 82:5 They do not know, nor do they understand, They walk about in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Psa 82:6 I, I said, “You are elohim, And all of you are sons of the Most High.
Psa 82:7 “But as men you die, And fall as one of the heads.”
Psa 82:8 Arise, O Elohim, judge the earth, For You shall possess all the nations.
We also see that Yisra’el is YHVH’s inheritance: Jer 51:19 The Portion of Ya‛aqoḇ is not like them, for He is the Maker of all, and Yisra’ěl is the tribe of His inheritance. יהוה of hosts is His Name.
It is quite clear that if you are someone other than Israel you are not part of YHVH’s Inheritance and you are a Gentile – a pagan, heathen, nation
H1471 – גֹּי גּוֹי – gôy gôy – go’ee, go’-ee – Apparently from the same root as H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts: – Gentile, heathen, nation, people.
1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,
1Pe 2:10 who once were not a people, but now the people of Elohim; who had not obtained compassion, but now obtained compassion.
Now compare that to what YHVH told Mosheh to tell Israel: Exo 19:5 ‘And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples – for all the earth is Mine –
Exo 19:6 ‘and you shall be to Me a reign of priests and a set-apart nation.’ Those are the words which you are to speak to the children of Yisra’ěl.”
Do you see the conditional statement?
Verses 15-18 – Yeshurun – H3484 – means “upright one” and comes from the word Yasher – H3474. Israel grew spoiled and believed that it could do whatever it wanted and the blessings would continue, just like America.
1Ch 16:15 Remember His covenant forever, The Word He commanded for a thousand generations,
From Adam to Yeshu’a was 77 generations so, how close are we to a thousand generations?
Verses 19-27 – Take heed America, your turn is coming. YHVH always tells us what the penalty for sin is: judgement!
Verses 28-43 – Just like Israel, America is lost to counsel. It will not accept sound doctrine from Yah’s Word. It will not repent for the sins it has committed.
Verses 44-47 – Please note that Joshua is called Hoshea not Yehoshua. Remember, it was Mosheh who called Joshua Yehoshua, not Joshua. I believe that this is proof that Joshua wrote at least this Book of Torah and was an humble man who would not call himself Yehoshua: Num_13:16 These are the names of the men whom Mosheh sent to spy out the land. And Mosheh called Hoshěa the son of Nun, Yehoshua.
Guard to do all the Words of this Torah – Jas 1:21 Therefore put away all filthiness and overflow of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your lives.
Jas 1:22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Jas 1:23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror,
Jas 1:24 for he looks at himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what he was like.
Jas 1:25 But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.
1Jn 2:4 The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jn 2:5 But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
1Jn 2:6 The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.
1Jn 2:7 Beloved, I write no fresh command to you, but an old command which you have had from the beginning. The old command is the Word which you heard from the beginning.
Verses 49-52 – Mosheh is reminded that he was disobedient to YHVH’s command because he had grown weary of the complaining of the people and struck the Rock at Meribah Qadesh instead of commanding the Rock to give water. He would be allowed to see the land but not enter in. Torah leads us to Yeshu’a Messiah, remember, it is our tutor.
Ahavah vberakhot
