Debarim (Deuteronomy) 30

Lesson date: xx/09/5857AA

Verse 1 –  “When all these words come upon you”. The word used for “come” is “bo” and it indeed means to come or to go but, it means a lot more than that. It could be said, “When all these words befall you” or, “When all these words enter you(r) ((thick skull)) or, fall upon or, light upon. In other words, when the seriousness of these words hit you, then what? We will wake up and be in the nations where YHVH has driven us because we refused to obey them: Jas 1:22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Rom 2:13 For not the hearers of the Torah are righteous in the sight of Elohim, but the doers of the Torah shall be declared right.

Mat 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens.

Mat 7:22 “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’

Mat 7:23 “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!

Verse 2 – I have now opened my eyes what must I do next? 1. Turn back and 2. Obey.

H7725 – שׁוּב – shûb – BDB Definition: 1) to return, turn back 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to turn back, return 1a1a) to turn back ((It means a lot more things but to return or turn back is the number 1 meaning of the word.))

H8085 – שׁמע – shâma‛ – BDB Definition: 1) to hear, listen to, obey (verb) 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to hear (perceive by ear) 1a2) to hear of or concerning 1a3) to hear (have power to hear)

As you guys know this is a clumsy way of translating this word which means “Show me that you hear me by doing what I told you to do.” Obedience.

2Ch 7:13 “If I shut up the heavens and there is no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people,

2Ch 7:14 and My people upon whom My Name is called, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I shall hear from the heavens, and forgive their sin and heal their land.

2Ch 7:15 “Now, My eyes are open and My ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

Who is He talking to here? Pimps? Prostitutes? Drugs dealers? Politicians? NO! Supposedly those upon whom His Name is called. You know, His disobedient and stiff-necked children. As long as we see what we are doing and that we are worshipping Him correctly we, as a people, will never repent

1Co_14:25 And so the secrets of his heart are revealed. And so, falling down on his face, he shall worship Elohim, declaring that Elohim is truly among you.

Rev_19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “See, do not do it! I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who possess the witness of יהושע. Worship Elohim! For the witness of יהושע is the spirit of prophecy.”

Rev_22:9 And he said to me, “See, do not! For I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who are guarding the words of this book. Worship Elohim.

Verses 3-5 – If we wake up from our idolatry and call upon His Name and repent, no matter where we are He will hear us and restore us: Mat 24:31 “And He shall send His messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Mat 13:37 And He answering, said to them, “He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Aḏam,

Mat 13:38 and the field is the world. And the good seed, these are the sons of the reign, but the darnel are the sons of the wicked one,

Mat 13:39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the messengers.

Mat 13:40 “As the darnel, then, is gathered and burned in the fire, so it shall be at the end of this age.

Mat 13:41 “The Son of Aḏam shall send out His messengers, and they shall gather out of His reign all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing lawlessness,

Mat 13:42 and shall throw them into the furnace of fire – there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

The tares get taken first and, they are burned.

Verse 6 – YHVH will circumcise our hearts: Jer 31:33 “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ěl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.

Heb 8:10 “Because this is the covenant that I shall make with the house of Yisra’ěl after those days, says יהוה, giving My laws in their mind, and I shall write them on their hearts, and I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.

Yeshua tried to accomplish this, He really did. But, the people were too hard-hearted to hear His message. You can read all about in Matt. 5:17-48 but the whole chapter is about who He calls will do these things: Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Messiah,

Col 2:12 having been buried with Him in immersion, in which you also were raised with Him through the belief in the working of Elohim, who raised Him from the dead.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once nations in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,

Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ěl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.

Eph 2:13 But now in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.

Verses 7-8 – If we turn and obey His Voice and keep His Commands He will cause the curses to fall upon our enemies. The one thing it takes is true repentance.

Verses 9-10 – If we keep all His Words and all His Commands, He will give us excess in all that we do. 1Co_7:19 The circumcision is naught, and the uncircumcision is naught, but the guarding of the commands of Elohim does matter!

Rev_12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands of Elohim and possessing the witness of יהושע Messiah.

Rev_19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “See, do not do it! I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who possess the witness of יהושע. Worship Elohim! For the witness of יהושע is the spirit of prophecy.”

Verses 11-14 – Keeping YHVH’s Torah is not impossible like we have been taught. What was imposible to keep were all the traditions of men added to it and spoken of here: Col 2:14 having blotted out that which was written by hand against us – by the dogmas – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.

G1378 δόγμα – dogma – dog’-mah From the base of G1380; a law (civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical): – decree, ordinance.

ECCLESIAS’TICAL, . [L; Gr.an assembly or meeting, whence a church; to call forth or convoke; to call.]

Pertaining or relating to the church; as ecclesiastical discipline or government; ecclesiastical affairs, history or policy; ecclesiastical courts.

YHVH’s Torah was His complete instruction manual for having a complete relationship with Him. He wanted us to be be set-apart as He is set-apart and that is the manual to it: 1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands,a and His commands are not heavy,

Mat_11:30 “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

Now, look here and see how Sha’ul teaches using this section of Torah: Rom 10:6 But the righteousness of belief speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who shall ascend into the heavens?’ ” Deu_30:12 – that is, to bring Messiah down; or,

Rom 10:7 “ ‘Who shall descend into the abyss?’ ” – that is, to bring Messiah up from the dead.

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” Deu_30:14 – that is, the word of belief which we are proclaiming:

Rom 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth the Master יהושע and believe in your heart that Elohim has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, and so is saved.

I left the footnotes in so you can see how Sha’ul uses Torah to teach about the Messiah.

Verse 15 – Boy, this is a tough one: Doing good = Life; Doing evil = death. The choice is ours.

Let’s look at this one more time: Law (in the B’rit Hadasha) = G3551 – νόμος –  nomos – nom’-os

From a primary word νέμω nemō (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), generally (regulation), specifically (of Moses [including the volume];

Now, if I believe in a god, I am a theist but if I do not believe in a god Iam an atheist.

G458 – ἀνομία – anomia – an-om-ee’-ah –  From G459; illegality, that is, violation of law or (generally) wickedness: – iniquity, X transgress (-ion of) the law, unrighteousness.

G459 – ἄνομος – anomos – an’-om-os –  From G1 (as a negative particle) and G3551; lawless, that is, (negatively) not subject to (the Jewish) law; (by implication a Gentile), or (positively) wicked: – without law, lawless, transgressor, unlawful, wicked.

Notice: by implication a Gentile? H1471 – גֹּי   גּוֹיgôy  gôygo’ee, go’-ee- Apparently from the same root as H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts: – Gentile, heathen, nation, people.

G1482 – ἐθνικός – ethnikos – eth-nee-kos’ – From G1484; national (“ethnic”), that is, (specifically) a Gentile: – heathen (man).

I have heard a lot of Christians who claim to be Gentile Christians so, does that make them a heathen Christian? Words spoken in ignorance.

Verses 16-20 – These verses prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that YHVH our Rock and our fortress, loves us and desires for us to have the best of His Kingdom. All we have to do is turn from our wicked ways, call upon in the Name of the Messiah, His Son and, ask our Father to forgive us and He Will. Why? Because He Loves us.

The Greek word most commonly translated as “grace” in the B’rit Hadasha (NT) is: G5485 – χάρις – charis – khar’-ece – From G5463; graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude): – acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace (-ious), joy liberality, pleasure, thank (-s, -worthy). This word is used 156 times in the new writings but, in Hebrew we have three common words that are also translated “grace” “mercy” or “tender affection”. They are:

H2617 – Chesed – This is the best kind – used 247 times;

H2580 – Chen – This is almost as good – used 69 times;

H7356 – Racham – This is really good – used 44 times;

Grand Total     360 times – more than twice the number of times mentioned in the B’rit Hadasha. Raw-cham and its root Racham – H7355 – used 47 times – means “to love or cherish like a mother would love the child/fetus in her womb”. Of course, in today’s world that means nothing.

What about Grace implied? YHVH could have destroyed Adam and Havvah but did not. He Instituted His Plan to Redeem them from their sin and we find that in Genesis 1:1 – word 1.

He could have destroyed all mankind in the Great Flood but chose instead to spare Noah and his family. Examples all through Torah, the Prophets and the Writings.

“When all these Things have Stricken You”

Verse 1 – Even in the Scriptures the translation softens the impact of YHVH’s Words. H935 – בּוֹא – bô’ – bo – befall, + besiege, doubtless again, [in-]vade, stricken. Here are a few more of the possible words implied by bo. Notice “doubtless again”. In other words our obedience will “doubtless again” fall away and our blessings will be changed to curses.

Jas 1:22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Mat 7:23 “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’

Mat 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does them, shall be like a wise man who built his house on the rock,

Mat 7:25 and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Mat 7:26 “And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not do them, shall be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand,

Mat 7:27 and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.”

Joh 3:36 “He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Elohim remains on him.”

Verse 2 – H7725 – שׁוּב – shûbshoob – turn back, return, fetch home again; are just a few of the words implied by shoob.

Verse 3-5 – then יהוה your Elohim shall “shoob” (H853) your captivity, and shall have compassion on you, and He shall “shoob” and gather you from all the peoples where יהוה your Elohim has scattered you.

If we return to His Commands then He will return to us.

S = chew, devour, meditate, consume, destroy

f = add, secure, hook, tie down fasten

b = house, tent, floor plan

The Secure dwelling place(house) to meditate on Him (and His Word).

Verse 4 – No place is TOO far for Him to find us and bring us back. Mat 24:31 “And He shall send His messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Please notice that it is YHVH that is doing the gathering back, not a ship, not a plane, not us doing the gathering but rather YHVH.

Verse 6 – “And יהוה your Elohim shall circumcise your heart” Man does not, we do not YHVH circumcises our hearts: Rom 2:29 But a Yehuḏite is he who is so inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in Spirit, not literally, whose praise is not from men but from Elohim.

Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Messiah,

Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,

Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ĕl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.

Eph 2:13 But now in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.

הִמוֹל – ‘himol’, – to be circumcised:

e = behold, reveal, revelation

m = waters, chaos

f = secure, attach, tie down

l = shepherd, lead, authority

Behold, Pass through the water and be secured to the Good Shepherd!

Verse 7-8 – YHVH will place OUR curses upon our enemies. Remember, the unbelievers have no obligation to believe in YHVH Words, only the believers. If believers turn away they will be cursed. If they turn back (shoob) their curses will be placed upon their enemies.

Verse 9 – Remember, once again, it is not “our” desire or “our” good pleasure but His: Php 2:12 So that, my beloved, as you always obeyed – not only in my presence, but now much rather in my absence – work out your own deliverance with fear and trembling,

Php 2:13 for it is Elohim who is working in you both to desire and to work for His good pleasure.

Verse 10 – We have discussed “shama” before, as recently as last week; diligently obey = shama shama which is constructed in Hebrew as “im-shamoa tishmau”. It is this phrase that I believe we see translated as “He who has an ear, let him hear” from the Greek in Matt. 11:15; 13:9, 43; Mar. 4:9, 23; 7:16; Luke 8:8; 14:35; Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22.

Verse 11-14 – What? Didn’t Mosheh hear that Torah was too hard, too difficult? Mat 11:29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings.

Mat 11:30 “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

Jer 6:16 Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands,1 and His commands are not heavy,

We want a quick way to Eternity that does not exist in scripture, doing our own thing. We want to walk down the aisle at church and then go outside and do what we want, but it isn’t what we want it is what He wants and that is to keep His commands: Mat_10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Mat_16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mar_8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mar_10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

1Co 15:31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Messiah יהושע our Master, I die day by day.

The word for do in verse 14 is “asah” and we have talked about it before but LOOK at it:

o = to see, watch or knowledge

s = chew, ruminate, meditate (whatever goes over or through the teeth)

e = behold, reveal

“Looking at the Word that has been revealed.”

Remember the times we have talked about “HEAR – GUARD – DO. It is “Shama – Shamar – ‘Asah” in Hebrew. It is the word ‘Asah that Ya’aqob talks about: Jas 1:22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Jas 1:23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror,

Jas 1:24 for he looks at himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what he was like.

Jas 1:25 But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.

Verse 15-20 – The two ways – Didache (in Greek): Chapter 1:1 There are two ways, one of life and one of death, and there is a great difference between the two ways.

We see the two ways presented to us as a choice, follow His commands = Life. Reject His commands = death. Look at the word for Life – Hai(Y).

h = (tent wall) separation, establish, secured, cut off

I = hand, arm, work, make, throw
“We are cut off or secured by the work of our hand.”

Exo_13:16 “And it shall be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand יהוה brought us out of Mitsrayim.”

Deu_6:8 and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

Deu_11:18 ‘And you shall lay up these Words of Mine in your heart and in your being, and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

It is no coincidence that Hasatan would have a similar mark: Rev 13:16 And he causes all, both small and great, and rich and poor, and free and slave, to be given a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads,

Rev 14:9 And a third messenger followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark upon his forehead or upon his hand,

Rev 14:10 he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of Elohim, which is poured out undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he shall be tortured with fire and sulphur before the set-apart messengers and before the Lamb.

As you know, verse 19 is one of my favorites because heaven and earth are called to be a witness against us. They are still against us and Yeshua reminds us of that: Mat 5:18 “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.

Torah was done away with at the cross! Oh yeah, when was heaven and earth done away with? It is only when heaven and earth are done away with: G3928 – παρέρχομαι – parerchomaipar-er’-khom-ahee : From G3844 and G2064; to come near or aside, that is, to approach (arrive), go by (or away), (figuratively) perish or neglect, (causatively) avert: – come (forth), go, pass (away, by, over), past, transgress (Isn’t the inclusion of this word interesting?).

And, when is heaven and earth done away with, going away, passing away?

They are renewed: Rev_21:1 And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth, for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away(G3928), and the sea is no more.

Why is heaven and earth renewed? Because it has become so polluted and toxic it has to be cleansed: Rev 11:18 “And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead to be judged, and to give the reward to Your servants the prophets and to the set-apart ones, and to those who fear Your Name, small and great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

In verse 20 let’s look at two words: love and cling. First love: H157 – אָהֵב אָהַב – ‘âhab ‘âhêbaw-hab’, aw-habe’: A primitive root; to have affection for (sexually or otherwise): – (be-) love (-d, -ly, -r), like, friend.

Now look at it in Greek: G25 – ἀγαπάω – agapaōag-ap-ah’-o Perhaps from ἄγαν agan (much; or compare [H5689]); to love (in a social or moral sense): – (be-) love (-ed). Compare G5368.

In either language this type of love is a husband for his wife and vice versa.

Joh 21:15 When, therefore, they had eaten breakfast, יהושע said to Shimʽon Kĕpha, “Shimʽon, son of Yonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yea, Master, You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

Joh 21:16 He said to him again, the second time, “Shimʽon, son of Yonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yea, Master, You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”

Joh 21:17 He said to him the third time, “Shimʽon, son of Yonah, do you love Me?” Kĕpha was sad because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Master, You know all, You know that I love You.” יהושע said to him, “Feed My sheep.

Yeshua asked Kepha “agapao” but Kepha responds each time with “philao” G5368 which is the word for brotherly love, NOT the deep intimate self sacrificing love of a husband for a wife or a wife for her husband. “Phileo” is the root word for Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love.

Rom 13:10 Love(G26, from the root word G25) does no evil to a neighbour. Therefore, love is completion(G4138) of the Torah.((Think about this verse for a minute or two.))

Now, let me show you something: Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to complete (G4137, this is the root word for G4138 above. Since the tense changed the word changed a little).

Now, let’s look at cling (H1692): H1692 – דָּבַק – dâbaqdaw-bak’

A primitive root; properly to impinge, that is, cling or adhere; figuratively to catch by pursuit: – abide, fast, cleave (fast together), follow close (hard, after), be joined (together), keep (fast), overtake, pursue hard, stick, take.

Where else do we see this word used? Gen 2:24 For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

As we have discussed numerous times, it is all about a wedding, a love affair between a loving, faithful husband, YHVH, and a virtuous wife, Yisra’el.
