Verse 1 – Wounding by crushing of the testicles or the cutting off of the penis may have happened in war or, it may have happened voluntarily as a sacrifice of fertility to insure fertility of the crops. It may also have happened as a result of being a captive such as Daniel, Hananyah, Mishael, Azaryah. (Dan. 1:6) The well-known and often quoted Clement of Alexandria, of the priests of Alexandria, were part of a sect that taught priests how to castrate themselves, so that they could become “pure of thought” after the example of Sha’ul. Once again we see how the early “church” mistakenly copied a pagan fertility practice as part of its doctrine when Sha’ul mentioned that he was not married, not a eunuch. Isa 56:3 “And let not the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to יהוה speak, saying, ‘יהוה has certainly separated me from His people,’ nor let the eunuch say, ‘Look I am a dry tree.’ ”
Isa 56:4 For thus said יהוה, “To the eunuchs who guard My Sabbaths, and have chosen what pleases Me, and hold fast to My covenant:
Isa 56:5 to them I shall give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters – I give them an everlasting name that is not cut off.
Verse 2 – H4464 – ממזר – mamzêr – BDB Definition: 1) bastard, child of incest, illegitimate child 1a) bastard 1b) mixed population (figuratively) 1c) born of a Jewish father and a heathen mother or visa versa
Lev 18:15 ‘The nakedness of your daughter-in-law you do not uncover, she is your son’s wife, you do not uncover her nakedness.
Lev 20:12 ‘And a man who lies with his daughter-in-law: both of them shall certainly be put to death, they have made confusion, their blood is upon them.

Ruth was a Moabitess and joined herself to Yisrael in the 10th generation. |
Two BIG coincidences, or prophecy?
Verses 7-8 – I may get into trouble here but I think we may be representative of the Edomites. We were (formerly of the church generation) closer kin to Yisra’el, than the illegitimate children of Lot. We can also identify with the Mitsrian, both of whom received a blessing: Gen 16:10 And the Messenger of יהוה said to her, “I am going to increase your seed greatly, too numerous to be counted.”
Gen 16:11 And the Messenger of יהוה said to her, “See, you are conceiving and bearing a son, and shall call his name Yishmaʽĕl, because יהוה has heard your affliction.
Gen 16:12 “And he is to be a wild man, his hand against every one and every one’s hand against him, and dwell over against all his brothers.”
Gen 27:38 And Ěsaw said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, me too, O my father!” And Ěsaw lifted up his voice and wept.
Gen 27:39 And Yitshaq his father answered and said to him, “See, your dwelling is of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of the heavens from above.
Gen 27:40 And by your sword you are to live, and serve your brother. And it shall be, when you grow restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.”
Or, perhaps we were Egyptian, like Hagar, who came out of spiritual bondage: Rev 11:8 and their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Seḏom and Mitsrayim, where also our Master was impaled, and realized we had inherited lies: Jer 16:19 O יהוה, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value in them.”
Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,
Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ĕl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.
Eph 2:13 But now in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.
Exo 12:12 ‘And I shall pass through the land of Mitsrayim on that night, and shall smite all the first-born in the land of Mitsrayim, both man and beast. And on all the mighty ones of Mitsrayim I shall execute judgment. I am יהוה.
This is a spiritual war and we must give up the gods of Egypt!
Verse 9 – When, not if, you go to war, and, you will go to war for what you believe.
Verses 10-14 – Keep ourselves and our “camp” clean and free from sin. Emissions and excrement are representative of ourselves. As we have talked about before, we must take up our cross and die to ourselves daily. Pride and anger are usually the two most common things that manifest themselves in a dispute.
Verses 15-16 – I wonder if this is not us. We escaped our master, deception, and should not be returned to our old master but we can dwell safely within the gates of Torah, not to be oppressed by man’s law: Col 2:14 having blotted out the certificate of debt against us – by the dogmas – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.
Verses 17-18 – This is an example of the razor thin line we must walk, it is not a broad path, which leads to destruction, but a razor thin path: H6945 – קָדֵשׁ – qâdêsh – kaw-dashe’: From H6942; a (quasi) sacred person, that is, (technically) a (male) devotee (by prostitution) to licentious idolatry: – sodomite, unclean.
H6942 – קָדַשׁ – qâdash – kaw-dash’: A primitive root; to be (causatively make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally): – appoint, bid, consecrate, dedicate, defile, hallow, (be, keep) holy (-er, place), keep, prepare, proclaim, purify, sanctify (-ied one, self), X wholly.
Both mean “set-apart” but one is to a false god and the other is to the Most High Elohim. Remember the difference between Chalal and Halal, profane and praise, just a tiny little line makes all the difference in our worship of YHVH.
Verses 19-20 – We cannot get ahead by loaning to our brothers and sisters with interest. We cannot ‘better’ ourselves at the expense of our brethren. We can lend at interest to a foreigner. This is just the opposite of the banking industry today.
Verses 21-23 – “Gone from your lips: H8193 – שֶׂפֶת שָׂפָה – śâphâh śepheth – saw-faw’, sef-eth’
(The second form is in dual and plural); Probably from H5595 or H8192 through the idea of termination (compare H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication language; by analogy a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.): – band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip,
Remember the image of the seen/sheen which represents the front teeth that tear apart meat. It can represents destruction, death or to ruminate/meditate. The idea of death and destruction reminds me of Proverbs: Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those loving it eat its fruit.
Tehillah/Psalm 61:8 “So I sing praise to Your Name forever, when I pay my vows day by day.” Tehillah/Psalm 116:14 “I pay my vows to יהוה now in the presence of all His people.” Yonah/Jonah 2:9 “But I offer to You with the voice of thanksgiving, I pay what I have vowed. Deliverance is of יהוה .”
Mattithyahu/Matthew 5:33 “Again, you heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to יהוה .’”
Also, remember what happened Hananyah and Saphirah when they broke their vow?
Ěḵah/Ecclesiastes 5:4 “When you make a vow to Elohim, do not delay to pay it, for He takes no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you have vowed.”
Mishlĕ/Proverbs 20:25 “It is a snare for a man to say rashly, “It is set-apart,” and only later to reconsider his vows.”
Verses 24-25 – Loving and being respectful of our neighbor.
Lesson date:11/19/5857AA
Verse 1 – On the surface a man who has his testicles crushed due to a fall, a fight, a battle or has had his penis cut off due to the same causes or, as a prisoner, his testicles or penis was removed so that he was a eunuch and could not have sexual intercourse with his captor’s women or wives then this man was not allowed into the community of YHVH. But what about Dani’ěl, Ḥananyah, Misha’ěl, and Azaryah. All four were eunuchs. Were they not mighty servants of YHVH? Didn’t YHVH give them the ability to interpret dreams and preserve Ḥananyah, Misha’ěl, and Azaryah by having His Messenger walk with them in the fiery furnace? Personally, I do not like rendering this word as community: H6951 – קהל – qâhâl – BDB Definition: 1) assembly, company, congregation, convocation. Every other time it is translated as congregation or assembly. I believe that this restriction is for the assembly at the door of the Tent of Appointment and later Temple Inner Court: Lev_4:14 when the sin which they have sinned becomes known, then the assembly shall bring a young bull for the sin, and bring it before the Tent of Appointment.
Lev_16:17 “And no man should be in the Tent of Appointment when he goes in to make atonement in the Set-apart Place, until he comes out. And he shall make atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Yisra’ěl.
Lev_16:33 and he shall make atonement for the Most Set-apart Place, and make atonement for the Tent of Appointment and for the slaughter-place, and make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.
Num_20:6 Then Mosheh and Aharon went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Appointment, and they fell on their faces. And the esteem of יהוה appeared to them.
If a man has had his testicle crushed or removed and his penis removed what has happened? Does YHVH provide a remedy? Isa 56:1 Thus said יהוה, “Guard right-ruling, and do righteousness, for near is My deliverance to come, and My righteousness to be revealed.
Isa 56:2 “Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who becomes strong in it, guarding the Sabbath lest he profane it, and guarding his hand from doing any evil.
Isa 56:3 “And let not the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to יהוה speak, saying, ‘יהוה has certainly separated me from His people,’ nor let the eunuch say, ‘Look I am a dry tree.’ ”
Isa 56:4 For thus said יהוה, “To the eunuchs who guard My Sabbaths, and have chosen what pleases Me, and are holding onto My covenant:
Isa 56:5 to them I shall give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters – I give them an everlasting name that is not cut off.
I do not disagree that Verse 1 means exactly what it says but I also think it means much more: Mat_7:19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mar_4:20 “And those sown on good soil, are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirtyfold, and some sixty, and some a hundred.”
I think most people know and understand that Sha’ul did not have fleshly children but look at what he writes: 1Ti_1:18 This charge I entrust to you, son Timotiyos, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you might wage the good campaign,
2Ti_1:2 to Timotiyos, my beloved son: Favour, compassion, peace from Elohim the Father, and Messiah יהושע our Master.
2Ti_2:1 You then, my son, be strong in the favour that is in Messiah יהושע.
Sha’ul considered Timothy to be his spiritual son. Von and I understand this very well. We have no fleshly children of our own together but we have many children that we love as though they were our own who call us Mama and Papa. Without us being in this walk, this path, we would not have had these children nor this experience. It is truly a blessing.
Verse 2 – It is generally thought that a “mamzer” was the product of a forbidden union, i.e. incest, adultery. Wow! Where do we go from here? Incest? Let’s see: Gen 38:24 And it came to be, about three new moons after, that Yehuḏah was informed, saying, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has whored, and see, she has conceived by whoring.” And Yehuḏah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!”
Gen 38:25 When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these belong, I am pregnant.” And she said, “Please examine whose these are: the seal and the cord and the staff.”
Gen 38:26 And Yehuḏah examined and said, “She has been more righteous than I, because I did not give her to Shělah my son.” And he never knew her again.
Gen 38:27 And it came to be, at the time for giving birth, that see, twins were in her womb.
Gen 38:28 And it came to be, when she was giving birth, that the one put out his hand. And the midwife took a scarlet thread and bound it on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.”
Gen 38:29 And it came to be, as he drew back his hand, that see, his brother came out! And she said, “How did you break through? This breach be upon you!” So his name was called Perets.
Gen 38:30 And afterward his brother came out who had the scarlet thread on his hand. So his name was called Zeraḥ.
Yehudah admits to fathering the children of Tamar, his daughter-in-law: Lev 18:15 ‘The nakedness of your daughter-in-law you do not uncover, she is your son’s wife, you do not uncover her nakedness. The children produced from this union were mamzers.
Mat 1:17 So all the generations from Aḇraham to Dawiḏ were fourteen generations, and from Dawiḏ until the exile to Baḇel were fourteen generations, and from the exile to Baḇel until the Messiah were fourteen generations.

What about Ruth?
Verse 7 – Why is it easier or better for the Edomites than the Ammonites or Moabites? And, what about the Mitsrian? Why are things better for Mitsrian than a Ammonite or Moabite?
In verses 1-8 we are told who is excluded from the congregation or “community” of YHVH. Remember, I have told you in the past that I am from the First Baptist Church of downtown Cairo Egypt also as the Babylonian Baptist Church. I should be excluded from the “community” of YHVH but, Yeshu’a made a way: Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once nations in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,
Eph 2:1 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ěl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.
Eph 2:13 But now in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.
And what covenants of promise is Sha’ul talking about? Gal 3:7 Know, then, that those who are of belief are sons of Aḇraham.
Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, having foreseen that Elohim would declare right the nations by belief, announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,”
Gal 3:9 so that those who are of belief are blessed with Aḇraham, the believer.
Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of Elohim through belief in Messiah יהושע.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were immersed into Messiah have put on Messiah.
Gal 3:28 There is not Yehuḏi nor Greek, there is not slave nor free, there is not male and female, for you are all one in Messiah יהושע.
Gal 3:29 And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.
Now look at the following verses where Sha’ul, once again, explains our miserable state and look at the words that I will highlight and think about them just a moment: Tit 3:3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, led astray, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in evil and envy, being hated and hating one another.
Tit 3:4 But when the kindness and the love of Elohim our Saviour toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5 He saved us, not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His compassion, through the washing of rebirth, and renewal by the Set-apart Spirit,
Tit 3:6 which He poured out on us richly through יהושע Messiah our Saviour,
Tit 3:7 that having been declared right by His favour we should become heirs according to the expectation of everlasting life.
What works of righteousness?
Verse 9 – Here is where I raise my hand and say, “I’m guilty”. How can we battle evil if we do not guard ourselves from evil? And, not only ourselves, but also our household, loved ones: 2Ti 4:3 For there shall be a time when they shall not bear sound teaching, but according to their own desires, they shall heap up for themselves teachers tickling the ear,
2Ti 4:4 and they shall indeed turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths.
2Ti 4:5 But you be sober in all matters, suffer hardships, do the work of an evangelist, accomplish your service completely.
Isa 30:9 that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who refuse to hear the Torah of יהוה,
Isa 30:10 who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right. Speak to us what is smooth, prophesy deceits.
Jer 5:30 “An astounding and horrible matter has come to be in the land:
Jer 5:31 The prophets have prophesied falsely, and the priests rule by their own hand, and My people have loved it so. And what are you going to do at the end of it?
Verses 10-14 – Sanitation! Keep the camp clean and clear of any and all defilements. The place for such things is outside the camp. How can we expect the Spirit of YHVH to dwell and walk in our camp if we keep it a pigsty?
Verse 17 – Walking on thins ice, Remember this, the fine line between Praise and Profane?
Now look at the word for cult prostitute: קדשׁה – feminine – H6948
Now, look at the word for cult prostitute: קדשׁ – masculine – H6945
Now, look at the word for set-apart: קדשׁ – set apart – H6944
Can the people who watch us and see us day by day determine whether we are set-apart or not? This is a harsh question and I ask it of no one other than myself, “Can the people around me see that I am set apart to YHVH or pimping for some other god?” Go back to Titus 3:5 above. Can people see my acts of righteousness? Do they see that I have truly found joy in Torah or that I am inwardly miserable because I am just denying myself what I want in order to appear righteous? We are coming into the Spring Feast season and we need to be honest with ourselves. Are we keeping Torah because we want to please our Father and obedience brings great joy or are we doing because we feel that we have to? Jas_1:25 But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.
Jas_2:12 So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.
Verse 18 – Any income from an abominable source is just that, an abomination. There was a drug dealer that was a deacon in this community in which I live because he gave so much to the church. Is Yah pleased with that?
Verses 19-20 – Do not loan to your brother at interest!
Verses 21-23 – naḏar neḏer – to vow a vow. This means to verbally promise YHVH something. What does Yeshu’a say about it? Mat 5:34 “But I say to you, do not swear at all, neither by the heaven, because it is Elohim’s throne;
Mat 5:35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Yerushalayim, for it is the city of the great Sovereign;
Mat 5:36 nor swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.
Pro 20:25 It is a snare for a man to say rashly, “It is set-apart,” And only later to reconsider his vows.
Verses 24-25 – Let me put this in a modern context, it is okay for me to eat of my neighbor’s generousity. Most of us in this qahal do not have the wonderful opportunity of having a Shabbat meal with our brethern. We do gather together for certain feast days and when we do it is huge and wonderful experience. One year at Sukkot Matt and Susanne brought salmon that Matt had caught and Susanne prepared and we all shared in that wonderful meal. Most Passovers are celebrated with one or two families in each home and I love it. It is meant to be a time of sharing food, fellowship and the experience but don’t pack it up and take it home for those that did not make the effort to come together to share and enjoy the fellowship.
