Debarim (Deuteronomy) 14 — Clean, Unclean, or who cares? or, Covenants

Verse 1- Deu 14:1 “You are the children of יהוה your Elohim” Stop and think about what this means. We are YHVH’s children!! What does it say in Numbers 6:27  “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, and I Myself shall bless them.”  He is our proud Father who brags about our obedience. Were you ever on honor roll? Did your Father brag about you being on honor roll? You bet He did. If we keep His Commands we are on His honor roll: 1Jn 2:3  And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His commands.

Joh 14:15  “If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.

Joh 14:21  “He who possesses My commands and guards them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and manifest Myself to him.”

Joh 15:10  If you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.

Verse 1- What does cutting yourself or cutting a bald spot on your forehead have to do with things that are unclean? Both actions represent a form of covenant and, a dead body is unclean: Num 19:11  ‘He who touches the dead of any human being is unclean for seven days.

So, those that would have touched Yeshua’s body and prepared it for burial would have been unclean and unable to go to the temple to offer a sacrifice on Thursday. They would have had to take the Passover meal on the first day of the second month instead: Num 9:11  ‘On the fourteenth day of the second month, between the evenings, they perform it – with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they eat it.

Numbers 9 speaks of this situation specifically. So, is it a big deal for us today? After all, we have no priesthood, we have no temple/tabernacle, no altar. I believe that it has much less significance for us today because we live in a different society. We don’t bury our own dead, it is done for us by people who make their living burying the dead. The closest scripture that I know of that might hint at this is in I Corinthians:

1Co 11:25  In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the renewed covenant in My blood. As often as you drink it, do this in remembrance of Me.”

1Co 11:26  For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Master until He comes.

1Co 11:27  So that whoever should eat this bread or drink this cup of the Master unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Master.

1Co 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup.

1Co 11:29  For the one who is eating and drinking unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Master.

1Co 11:30  Because of this many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

The word that is translated ‘unworthily’ primarily means ‘irreverently’. I take Sha’ul to mean those that would eat of the remembrance meal in a disrespectful fashion or while continuing in sin in some fashion. But, the same would be true of partaking of the Passover meal in similar fashion.

Verse 2 – This provides the reason that we are supposed to be obedient to our Father’s commands, in order to be set-apart, holy. It is hard to be set-apart when you do the same as the rest of the world. What does Sha’ul say? Rom 12:1  I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship.

Rom 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

What is ‘good, well-pleasing and the perfect desire of Elohim? Joh 14:15  “If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.

The church does not pay any attention to John Chapter 1 where John very eloquently shows us how Yeshua is the Word. How could Yeshua come to do away with Torah if He is Torah. He would be nullifying everything He said or did. Don’t think so? Read here: Mat 5:19  “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.

Still think Yeshua did away with the dietary laws? He would have violated His own teaching. How can our Saviour be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven?

But, didn’t he declare everything clean in Mark 7:18-19? Let’s look at it: Mar 7:18  And He said to them, “Are you also without understanding? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside is unable to defile him,

Mar 7:19  because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purging all the foods?”

G2511 – καθαρίζω – katharizōkath-ar-id’-zo- to clean out, purge. This is the word we get our English word catharsis from, but is not actually grammatically correct in this sense. Basically food goes into you stomach and later into the toilet, not the heart. What is the big deal about the heart? Jer 31:33  “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ĕl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.

There is the big deal. His Torah is supposed to be written upon our hearts, not just a page. If you still don’t get it go back to Matthew 5:17-48.

But, go back to Mark 7:18-19. Nowhere does Yeshua say, “I declare all foods clean”. It is not even hinted at in the Greek. It  is hinted at in the hearts and minds of mankind who are quick to do evil. Now, for context look at verse 3.

Verses 3-8  “Do not eat whatever is abominable.” H8441 – תֹּעֵבה  תּוֹעֵבַה – tô‛êbah  tô‛êbahto-ay-baw’, to-ay-baw’ – Feminine active participle of H8581; properly something disgusting (morally), that is, (as noun) an abhorrence; especially idolatry or (concretely) an idol: – abominable (custom, thing), abomination.

Is it a coincidence that Ishtar/Astarte was worshipped by sacrificing pigs. The same for Jupiter. Remember, the temple had been profaned by Antiochus IV, also called Epiphanes, when he set up an altar to Jupiter in the temple and slaughtered pigs to his god inside the temple. Is it a coincidence that the day of fertility rites celebrated in Babylon, the day when Marduk and Ishtar renewed everything in the Spring by their supernatural intercourse, was celebrated by eating pork? Today that day is known as Easter for Ishtar.

YHVH wants us to even refrain from the appearance of evil: 1Co 8:8  But food does not commend us to Elohim, for we are none the better if we eat, nor any worse for not eating.

1Co 8:9  But look to it, lest somehow this right of yours become a stumbling-block to those who are weak.

1Co 8:10  For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s place, shall not his conscience, if he is weak, be built up to eat food offered to idols?

1Co 8:11  So this weak brother, for whom Messiah died, shall perish through your knowledge!

Now do you understand why Sha’ul wrote these words? He was not saying that you can eat what you want, that it made no difference to Elohim. Sha’ul is saying food. For him and all other 1st Century Jews pork was not food but an abomination. Food sacrificed to idols would have been lamb, goat or beef. These are clean foods but having been sacrificed to idols in 1st Century Jewish thinking made them unclean.

Isa 65:1  “I have let Myself be inquired of, not by those who asked; I was found, not by those who sought Me. I said, ‘Here I am, here I am,’ to a nation not calling on My Name.

Isa 65:2  “I have held out My hands all day long to a stubborn people, who walk in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts;

Isa 65:3  the people who provoke Me continually to My face, who slaughter in gardens, and burn incense on altars of brick;

Isa 65:4  who sit among the graves, and spend the night in secret places, who eat flesh of pigs, and the broth of unclean meat is in their pots,

Isa 65:5  who say, ‘Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am set-apart to you!’ These are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day.

Does this sound like someone who might change their mind and say “Never mind!”?

Isa 66:15  “For look, יהוה comes with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His displeasure with burning, and His rebuke with flames of fire.

Isa 66:16  “For by fire and by His sword יהוה shall judge all flesh, and the slain of יהוה shall be many –

Isa 66:17  those who set themselves apart and cleanse themselves at the gardens after ‘One’ in the midst, eating flesh of pigs and the abomination and the mouse, are snatched away, together,” declares יהוה.

They are snatched away together. Seems like I have heard that phrase somewhere before. Probably nothing. But here is something you need to understand, everything that is called “scripture” must stand the test of Torah: Isa 8:20  To the Torah and to the witness! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because they have no daybreak. The word daybreak is actually referring to light.

Deu 4:2  “Do not add to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it1, so as to guard the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I am commanding you.

Deu 12:32  “All the words I am commanding you, guard to do it – do not add to it nor take away from it.

Pro 30:6  Do not add to His Words, Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

It boils down to this, DO you really believe YHVH’s Word or do you love your food more? If Yeshua, as stated in John 1, really is the Word, YHVH’s Word and He is: Heb 13:8  יהושע Messiah is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. How can you believe in such a fickle god that would change his mind about his eternal word. YHVH is not fickle and His Word stands forever and His Word is His Son!

I really feel sorry for the legacies of Kepha/Peter and Sha’ul/Paul. These to great men of the Word are blamed for all manner of sin in the world today. Paul for teaching how Torah was done away with and Peter for making all unclean flesh good to eat because of a dream. Peter’s dream is found in Acts 10. Read from 10:1 until 10:27 and stop and think about what you have just read. Now, read verse 28. Peter explains his dream but he DOES NOT MENTION FOOD. He mentions men. Peter was being rebuked in his dream for failing to keep Yeshua’s command? What command? Go to Matthew 28:18-20. What were they told to do? Mat 28:19  “Therefore, go and make taught ones of all the nations,” They were commanded by the Messiah to go to all the nations but up to this point they had not. They had only gone to the Jews. The traditions of men was so firmly ingrained into their thinking they could not being themselves to be obedient to their Master’s command.

Isa 29:13  And יהוה says, “Because this people has drawn near with its mouth, and with its lips they have esteemed Me, and it has kept its heart far from Me, and their fear of Me has become a command of men that is taught!

Mat 15:8  ‘This people draw near to Me with their mouth, and respect Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

Mat 15:9  ‘But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as teachings the commands of men.’ ”

Mar 7:10  “For Mosheh said, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’

Mar 7:11  “But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me, is Qorban (that is, a gift),” ’

Mar 7:12  you no longer let him do any matter at all for his father or his mother,

Mar 7:13  nullifying the Word of Elohim through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such traditions you do.”

Do we really want to put our hope and trust in the teachings of men, traditions are do we want to put our hope and trust in the Word of Elohim?

Verses 9-10 – Fish with scales and fins are clean, those without them are not, why? Because they are bottom feeders and scavengers. They eat dead, rotten flesh and blood. Why do you think the best bait for catfishing stinks?

Verses 11-20 – Tells us which birds that we can eat and not eat. The birds that we are not supposed to eat are very clearly scavengers and many times eat dead and rotten flesh. This is why Benjamin Franklin proposed that the symbol of America be a turkey rather than an eagle because the eagle was a scavenger.

Verse 21 – Deu 14:21  “Do not eat whatever dies of itself.” If an animal was sick enough to die do you really want to eat it? Please be careful here, in western New Mexico you want to purchase lamb stew not mutton stew because mutton stew can be made from a sheep that died of “natural” causes.

Notice it is acceptable to give it to a stranger dwelling within your gates or sell it to a foreigner. If someone trust me enough to dwell within my gates do I want to betray that trust by giving them something I would not eat? If we know better we should look out for those who trust us. ((Just my own personal thoughts on this.)) Now at lot of people, especially in the south Pacific region and southeast Asia would prefer to eat a crow over a chicken. If they ask for the crow you shot out of your corn go ahead and give it to them if you want to, because they consider it food even though we do not.

Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk. The only information I have on this prohibition comes from the Aramaic Targums. In the Targums a phrase is added for explanation which says, “By which you nullify your offering.” Presumably, this kid was a sacrifice and boiling it in its mother’s milk, milk intended for the kid, nullified the death of the kid.

Verse 22 – What self respecting preacher would forget to preach a rousing sermon on this verse? Naturally, he would overlook all the other verses of this chapter when he did so, and he would probably skip over a few of the verses afterward as well.

Job 22:9  You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless are crushed.

Psa 68:4  Sing to Elohim, sing praises to His Name. Raise up a highway for Him Who rides through the deserts, By His Name Yah, And exult before Him.

Psa 68:5  Father of the fatherless, And Right-ruler of widows, Is Elohim in His set-apart dwelling.

Jer_49:11  “Leave your fatherless children, let Me keep them alive. And let your widows trust in Me.”

Psa 82:1  Elohim stands in the congregation of Ěl; He judges in the midst of the elohim.

Psa 82:2  How long would you judge perversely, And show partiality to the wrong? Selah.

Psa 82:3  Give right-ruling to the poor and fatherless, Do right to the afflicted and needy.

There are many other verses that tell that we are supposed to take care of the widows and the fatherless, orphans. In Psalms 82 we see that YHVH will judge the other gods for not taking care of the widows and fatherless and they will be destroyed as though they were men. Our tithes are not for the ‘new’ sanctuary or the multi-purpose facility but for taking care of the widows and fatherless and anyone who tells you otherwise is deceiving you, in Jesus’ name.

Jas 1:27  Clean and undefiled religion before the Elohim and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Please notice what was given and what was expected: And you shall eat before יהוה your Elohim, in the place where He chooses to make His Name dwell, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and of the firstlings of your herds and your sheep, so that you learn to fear יהוה your Elohim always.

“And you shall eat before YHVH your Elohim” What does this mean? Exo 24:9  And Mosheh went up, also Aharon, Naḏaḇ, and Aḇihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisra’ĕl,

Exo 24:10  and they saw the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, and under His feet like a paved work of sapphire stone, and like the heavens for brightness.

Exo 24:11  Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the chiefs of the children of Yisra’ĕl! And they saw Elohim, and they ate and drank.

This is a covenant meal. This meal is to renew our covenant with our Creator. All the excess was given to the widows, orphans and Levites but first you ate your meal in the “presence” ((where His Name dwells)) of Elohim.

How often are we supposed to give this tithe? Deu 14:28  At the end of every third year you bring out all the tithe of your increase of that year and store it up within your gates.

“Why, the foundations of the Kingdom of Heaven would fall apart if we followed that command. Are you insane?” I can just hear some preacher preaching.

Deu 26:12  “When you have completed tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, and have given it to the Lĕwite, to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, and they have eaten within your gates and have been satisfied,

Deu 26:13  then you shall say before יהוה your Elohim, ‘I have put away the set-apart portion from my house, and also have given it to the Lĕwite, and to the stranger, and to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all Your command which You have commanded me. I have not transgressed Your commands, nor have I forgotten.

Deu 26:14  ‘I have not eaten any of it when in mourning, nor have I removed any of it for any unclean use, nor given any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the voice of יהוה my Elohim, I have done according to all that You have commanded me.

Do you see, this is not supposed to be difficult, man makes it difficult: Deu 30:11  “For this command which I am commanding you today, it is not too hard for you, nor is it far off.

Deu 30:12  “It is not in the heavens, to say, ‘Who shall ascend into the heavens for us, and bring it to us, and cause us to hear it, so that we do it?’

Deu 30:13  “Nor is it beyond the sea, to say, ‘Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, and cause us to hear it, so that we do it?’

Deu 30:14  “For the Word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart – to do it.

Deu 30:15  “See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil,

Deu 30:16  in that I am commanding you today to love יהוה your Elohim, to walk in His ways, and to guard His commands, and His laws, and His right-rulings. And you shall live and increase, and יהוה your Elohim shall bless you in the land which you go to possess.

Deu 30:17  “But if your heart turns away, and you do not obey, and shall be drawn away, and shall bow down to other mighty ones and serve them,

Deu 30:18  “I have declared to you today that you shall certainly perish, you shall not prolong your days in the land which you are passing over the Yardĕn to enter and possess.

Deu 30:19  “I have called the heavens and the earth as witnesses today against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore you shall choose life, so that you live, both you and your seed,

Deu 30:20  to love יהוה your Elohim, to obey His voice, and to cling to Him – for He is your life and the length of your days – to dwell in the land which יהוה swore to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitshaq, and to Yaʽaqoḇ, to give them.”

Jer 6:16  Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’

Jer 6:17  “And I raised up watchmen over you, and said, ‘Listen to the sound of the ram’s horn!’ But they said, ‘We do not listen.’

Jer 6:18  “Therefore hear, you nations, and know, O congregation, what is upon them!

Jer 6:19  “Hear, O earth! See, I am bringing evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor My Torah – and they rejected it.

The problem is not Torah but that we have not listened to Torah.

Mat 11:29  “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings.

Mat 11:30 “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

If Yeshua walked in Torah and taught Torah how could He say this. Torah is supposed to be difficult, impossible according to the traditions of men. But is it? Isn’t there a remedy for sin in Torah. Doesn’t Sha’ul talk about this remedy?

Lesson date: 09/14/5857AA

Verse 1 – Is this your identity: Deu 14:1 “You are the children of יהוה your Elohim.

Is this how you are known to everyone around you? Prove it. How do you proof that you are a child of YHVH the Most High Elohim of Yisra’el? Do you know His Name? What is His Name? Is it god? No! That is just a title. What is the Name by which He is Known to His Children? Exo 3:14 And Elohim said to Mosheh, “I am that which I am.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Yisra’ěl, ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”

Do you know what this means? ’eheyeh ’asher ’eheyeh (Hebrew) =  Ayah Ashar Ayah (Aramaic)

Deu 14:1 “You are the children of יהוה your Elohim. Do not cut yourselves … for the dead,

Cutting oneself for the dead, was and still is, a common practice in many parts of the world, especially Africa, North America and western Asia. Look what we have inherited from our Native American past:

Our Native American brothers understood the intensity of swearing a covenant: it require the spilling of blood: H1413 – גּדד – gâdadBDB Definition: 1) to penetrate, cut, attack, invade 1a) (Qal) to penetrate, cut into 1b) (Hithpoel) 1b1) to cut oneself 1b2) to gather in troops or crowds

Ancestor worship was very common in ancient Mesopotamia, so much so, that many cultures buried some of the elders on either side of the door to guard the door from evil spirits.

nor shave the front of your head for the dead, Shaving the head is also a type of covenant and is recognized as a covering. To begin the vow of a Nazarite you must first cut your hair: Act 21:20 And when they heard it, they praised the Master. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Yehuḏim there are who have believed, and all are ardent for the Torah,

Act 21:21 “But they have been informed about you that you teach all the Yehuḏim who are among the nations to forsake Mosheh, saying not to circumcise the children nor to walk according to the practices.

Act 21:22 “What then is it? They shall certainly hear that you have come.

Act 21:23 “So do this, what we say to you: We have four men who have taken a vow.

Act 21:24 “Take them and be cleansed with them, and pay their expenses so that they shave their heads. And all shall know that what they have been informed about you is not so, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Torah.

Sha’ul, in order to prove that he was still keeping Torah, was told to take 4 men to the temple and pay their expenses, i.e. sacrifices, and all 5 men would shave their head and begin a period of separation as a Nazarite. You can find the Torah of the Nazarite in Bemidbar/Numbers 6. Also, if a man took a woman in battle and wanted to make her his wife: Deu 21:10 “When you go out to fight against your enemies, and יהוה your Elohim shall give them into your hand, and you shall take them captive,

Deu 21:11 and shall see among the captives a woman fair of form, and shall delight in her and take her for your wife,

Deu 21:12 then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and trim her nails,

By shaving her head she was removing the covering of her dead husband, father, eldest male family member that took care of her. During this time of uncovering she can mourn the deaths of her father and mother and other family.

For a man the hair of his head would also include his beard: Lev 21:4 ‘A leader does not defile himself among his people, to profane himself;

Lev 21:5 they do not make any bald place on their heads, and they do not shave the corner of their beard, and they do not make a cutting in their flesh.

My dad had a saying, “God only made a few perfect heads, the rest He covered with hair.” Most men, on our father’s side of the family are naturally bald. If you are cursed with an overabundance of hair you should not cut a bald spot in your hair. Remember Qorah: Num 16:32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Qoraḥ, with all their goods.

Num 16:33 So they and all those with them went down alive into She’ol, and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.

H7141 – קרח – qôrachBDB Definition: Korah = “bald” . Qorah was not bald because of genetics. The word comes from H7139 which means to make oneself bald. To do so was a sign of rebellion.

One more thing about being bald: 2Ki 2:21 And he went out to the source of the water, and threw salt in there, and said, “Thus said יהוה, ‘I have healed this water – no longer shall death or barrenness come from it.’ ”

2Ki 2:22 And the waters were healed, to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

2Ki 2:23 And he went up from there to Běyth Ěl. And as he was going up the way, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, baldhead! Go up, baldhead!”

2Ki 2:24 And he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the Name of יהוה. And two female bears came out of the forest and tore to pieces forty-two of the youths.

The word used here is H7142 – qereach – which means bald on the back of the head. This is a Hebrew idiom that means “a liar”. The children were calling Elisha a liar for saying that he inherited the mantle of Eliyahu. And then, the 2 she-bears tore them apart. This was also one of my dad’s favorite Scriptures.

Other Scriptures that talk about shaving the head and/or beard are: Jer. 16:6; 1Chron. 19:4-5; Bem. 8: Shave the whole body; Way. 13; 14; also 1Cor. 11: ((Please be careful when reading this as it is in reference to a Greek custom, not a Hebrew one. The answer comes from the writings of Hippocrates. Torah does not require a woman to be silent while in qahal.))

Verse 2 – This is YHVH’s description of His people:

H6918 – קדשׁ / קדושׁ – qâdôshBDB Definition: 1) sacred, holy, Holy One, saint, set apart

H977 – בּחר – bâcharBDB Definition: 1) to choose, elect, decide for 1a) (Qal) to choose 1b) (Niphal) to be chosen 1c) (Pual) to be chosen, selected

H5459 – סגלּה – segûllâhBDB Definition: 1) possession, property 1a) valued property, peculiar treasure 1b) treasure

Deu 7:7 “יהוה did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more numerous than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples,

Deu 7:8 but because of יהוה loving you, and because of Him guarding the oath which He swore to your fathers, יהוה has brought you out with a strong hand, and ransomed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim.

Plain and simple YHVH is telling the world that He Wants a pure and chaste virgin for His Bride. It is that simple and that is why YHVH admonishes Yisra’el against chasing after other gods: Exo 20:3 “You have no other mighty ones against My face.

Exo 20:4 “You do not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of that which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth,

Exo 20:5 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Exo 20:6 but showing loving-commitment to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My commands.

YHVH is a jealous Bridegroom. He does not want His Betrothed chasing after other gods. That was the whole reason Yeshu’a had to come. ((See Romans 7:1-6))

Rom 7:1 Or do you not know, brothers – for I speak to those knowing the Torahthat the Torah rules over a man as long as he lives? ((There is no exemption from Torah.))

Rom 7:2 For the married woman ((Israel)) has been bound by Torah to the living husband ((YHVH)), but if the husband ((Yeshu’a came in His Father’s Name and died in His Father’s Name)) dies, she is released from the Torah concerning her husband. ((This is concerning her certificate of Divorce.))

Rom 7:3 So then, while her husband lives, she shall be called an adulteress ((Served other gods)) if she becomes another man’s. But if her husband dies ((Yeshu’a in His Father’s Name)), she is free from that part of the Torah ((Regarding the certificate of Divorce.)), so that she is not an adulteress, having become another man’s.

Rom 7:4 So my brothers, you also were put to death to the Torah ((The Torah of Divorce.)) through the body of Messiah ((In His Father’s Name.)), for you to become another’s, the One who was raised from the dead ((Yeshu’a is the First Fruit of the Resurrection)), that we should bear fruit to Elohim ((Bear Fruit, bear increase, bear spiritual children to our Husband, YHVH.))

Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, through the Torah, were working in our members to bear fruit to death.

Rom 7:6 But now we have been released from the Torah ((The Torah of Divorce)), having died to what we were held by ((The life of our First Husband, YHVH)), so that we should serve in newness of Spirit and not in oldness of letter. ((Here Sha’ul reminds them that Yeshu’a tried to write the Torah of YHVH on men’s hearts. Mat. 5 (all))

((Note 1))

Verses 2b-20 – above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. We are not supposed to be like the rest of the world When YHVH sends His Son to gather His Bride from the Earth He will be able to tell us apart from the Gentiles/Nations/Heathens because we look different, act different and we eat different, otherwise we are not Qadosh – Set-Apart – Saints – Holy, choose your word. If you look like the world, act like the world and eat like the world are you set-apart?

“Do not eat whatever is abominable.”

Simply stated, I do not have the absolute answer for what is and what is not clean. But what is not clean is abominable and therefore is never considered food in Scripture. Nobody will be happy until they bring up Kepha’s ((Peter’s)) dream. Let’s look at it and what Peter dreamed and what HE said it meant, not the church.

Act 10:9 And on the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Kěpha went up on the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour.

Act 10:10 And he became hungry and wished to eat. But while they were preparing, he fell into a trance,

Act 10:11 and he saw the heaven opened and a certain vessel like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth,

Act 10:12 in which were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping creatures, and the birds of the heaven.

Act 10:13 And a voice came to him, “Rise up, Kěpha, slay and eat.”

Act 10:14 But Kěpha said, “Not at all, Master! Because I have never eaten whatever is common or unclean.”

Act 10:15 And a voice came to him again the second time, “What Elohim has cleansed you do not consider common.”

Act 10:16 And this took place three times, and the vessel was taken back to the heaven.

Act 10:17 And while Kěpha was doubting within himself about what the vision might mean, look, the men who had been sent from Cornelius, having asked for the house of Shim‛on, stood at the gate,

Act 10:18 and calling out, they enquired whether Shim‛on, also known as Kěpha, was staying there.

Act 10:19 And as Kěpha was thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “See, three men seek you.

He dreamed it once for each Gentile man sent to find him by Cornelius. ((They were from the Italian Regiment and were therefore Gentiles or dogs according to the Jews of the day and dogs were unclean.))

So what happened next? Kepha went to Cornelius and this is what he said: Act 10:28 And he said to them, “You know that a Yehuḏi man is not allowed to associate with, or go to one of another race. But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Whoa!!! Man, not food. The dream was not about food but about the man-made law of the Rabbis and Pharisees that Jews should not associate with Gentiles. But is that what Yeshu’a instructed His Apostles? NO!!! Mat 28:18 And יהושע came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Mat 28:19 “Therefore, go and make taught ones of all the nations, immersing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Set-apart Spirit, and make taught ones of all the nations ((Not just Jews but Gentiles as well. They had only been going to Jewish congregations up to this point)),

Mat 28:20 teaching them to guard all that I have commanded you ((Including Torah.)).   And see, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Aměn.

Okay, this is just a fluke, right? No! The Yerushalyim Council has heard about Peter going to Gentiles and sharing a meal with them and, “god” forbid, baptise some of them. So, the council hauls Kepha in front of them and Kepha starts talking about food and some great new recipes, right? No! Act 11:1 And the emissaries and brothers who were in Yehuḏah heard that the nations also received the word of Elohim.

Act 11:2 And when Kěpha went up to Yerushalayim, those of the circumcision were contending with him,

Act 11:3 saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

Act 11:4 But Kěpha began and set it forth in order, saying:

Act 11:5 “I was in the city of Yapho praying. And in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending like a great sheet, let down from the heaven by four corners, and it came to me.

Act 11:6 “Having looked into it, I perceived and I saw four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping creatures, and the birds of heaven.

Act 11:7 “And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise up, Kěpha, slay and eat.’

Act 11:8 “But I said, ‘Not at all, Master! Because whatever is common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.’

Act 11:9 “And the voice answered me again from the heaven, ‘What Elohim has cleansed you do not consider common.’

Act 11:10 “And this took place three times, and all were drawn up again into the heaven.

Act 11:11 “And see, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.

Act 11:12 “And the Spirit said to me to go with them, not doubting at all. And these six brothers also went with me, and we went into the man’s house.

Act 11:13 “And he told us how he had seen a messenger standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Yapho, and call for Shim‛on who is also called Kěpha,

Act 11:14 who shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved, you and all your house.’

Act 11:15 “And as I began to speak, the Set-apart Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.

Act 11:16 “And I remembered the word of the Master, how He said, ‘Yoḥanan indeed immersed in water, but you shall be immersed in the Set-apart Spirit.’

Act 11:17 “So if Elohim gave them the same gift as He gave us whe we believed on the Master יהושע Messiah, how was I able to withstand Elohim?”

Act 11:18 And having heard this, they were silent, and praised Elohim, saying, “Then Elohim has indeed also given to the nations repentance to life.”

Please show me in these 2 accounts of Peter’s (Kepha’s) dream, by Peter himself, where it talks about being able to eat abominable food.

The outpouring of the Ruach Hakodesh upon the Gentiles has been reduced to a fable about food. What did Sha’ul (Paul) say about such things: Php 3:18 For many – of whom I have often told you, and now say to you even weeping – walk as enemies of the stake of Messiah.

Php 3:19 Their end is destruction, their mighty one (god) is their stomach, and their esteem is in their shame – they mind the earthly.

The Gentiles would rather satisfy their stomachs than the True God, YHVH, the One (Echad) True Elohim.

Verse 21 – I am sorry that I originally skipped it and saw that I did when I went through it again. Boiling a kid in its mother’s milk is an abomination and therefore nullifies the offering. This is more of an Aramaic idiom than Hebrew but is still valid.

Verse 22 – This addresses tithing and sounds nothing like the modern churches preoccupation of tithing. It is based upon the increase of you crops but, there is more.

Why did YHVH go to such lengths to give Yisra’el detailed instructions on how to live and what to eat? So that we could discern between what is set-apart and what is profane, between what is clean and unclean.

When many Muslims come to America they still want to live by Sharia Law instead of our system of laws that was based on English Common Law. Most native born Americans find that to be detestable, unconscionable. This is the same thing that has happened in Scripture; Gentiles have moved their citizenship from the “world” to Israel and still want to live by the rules of the “world”: Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once nations in the flesh, (Notice this is in the past tense) who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands,

Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ěl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world.

Eph 2:13 But now (Present tense) in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah. (Being brought near is referring to bringing Gentiles into Israel not the other way around.)

Eph 2:14 For He is our peace, who has made both one, and having broken down the partition of the barrier,

Eph 2:15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity – the torah of the commands in dogma – so as to create in Himself one renewed man from the two, thus making peace, (The same thing spoken of in Col. 2:14, man-made laws and traditions.)

Eph 2:16 and to completely restore to favour both of them unto Elohim in one body through the stake, having destroyed the enmity by it.

Eph 2:17 And having come, He brought as Good News peace to you who were far off, (Past tense) and peace to those near. (Present tense)

Eph 2:18 Because through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens of the set-apart ones and members of the household of Elohim,

Eph 2:20 having been built upon the foundation of the emissaries and prophets, יהושע Messiah Himself being chief corner-stone,

Eph 2:21 in whom all the building, being joined together, grows into a set-apart Dwelling Place in יהוה,

Eph 2:22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of Elohim in the Spirit.

We cannot become a set-apart Dwelling Place for YHVH and the Ruach Haqodesh and live like the world lives. When the Council of Yerushalyim met it gave the Gentiles a starting point for coming out of the world: Act 15:13 And after they were silent, Ya‛aqoḇ answered, saying, “Men, brothers, listen to me:

Act 15:14 “Shim‛on has declared how Elohim first visited the nations to take out of them a people for His Name.

Act 15:15 “And the words of the prophets agree with this, as it has been written:

Act 15:16 ‘After this I shall return and rebuild the Booth of Dawiḏ which has fallen down. And I shall rebuild its ruins, and I shall set it up,

Act 15:17 so that the remnant of mankind shall seek יהוה, even all the nations on whom My Name has been called, says יהוה who is doing all this,’

Act 15:18 who has made this known from of old. Amo_9:11-12.

Act 15:19 “Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the nations who are turning to Elohim,

Act 15:20 but that we write to them to abstain from the defilements of idols,a and from whoring,b and from what is strangled,c and from blood.d Footnotes: a Exo_22:20, Lev_17:7, Deu_32:17, Deu_32:21, 1Co_10:14, 1Co_10:20-21. b Num_25:1-3, Lev_17:7. c Gen_9:4, Eze_33:25 (Strangled – One way of eating meat with blood) Pro_21:25. d Lev_17:10-14.

Act 15:21 “For from ancient generations Mosheh (Torah) has, in every city, those proclaiming him – being read in the congregations every Sabbath.” (congregations = qahal and Sabbath equals Saturday not Sunday.)

There is much much more in this chapter and we can discuss later as needed.

Ahavah,
