Bemidbar (Numbers) 9

Verse 1 – Num 9:1a And יהוה spoke to Mosheh in the Wilderness of Sinai. This struck me as unusual. Where else would they be? Then it dawned on me that the word for Wilderness is Midbar and in the Wilderness is Bemidbar. Remember, you can say “in the wilderness” to find the Word. Look at what we see later in the chapter: At the mouth of יהוה is used 4 times in this one chapter alone. It is only found 8 times in all of Torah and half of those occurrences are in this one chapter.

We are also given a timeline in verse 1. It is in the first month, Aviv, of the second year after they left Mitsrayim. They left Mitsrayim after eating the Passover meal on the beginning of Unleavened Bread.

Verse 2 – 5 – I want to show you an amazing coincidence ((Insert smiley here)). “Now, let the children of Yisra’ěl perform the (H853) Pěsaḥ at its appointed time.

Num 9:5 So they performed (H853) the Pěsaḥ on the fourteenth day of the first new moon, between the evenings, in the Wilderness of Sinai. According to all that יהוה commanded Mosheh, so the children of Yisra’ěl did.

I know that the official explanation is the definite article of the direct object but isn’t it peculiar how the Aleph and the Tav just happen to show up in the most peculiar places?

Also in verse 5 is the phrase between the evenings: H6153 – ערב – ‛ereb – BDB Definition: 1) evening, night, sunset 1a) evening, sunset 1b) night

Between the evenings is more of an explanation of the meaning of the word ‘ereb than a literal definition.

Have you ever thought about the “fourteenth day of the month”? Could there have been a reason YHVH chose the 14th day? The number 14 in Hebrew is expressed as ( י ד ) (Yod Dalet)

H3027 – יד – yâd – BDB Definition: 1) hand 1a) hand (of man) 1b) strength, power (figuratively)

1c) side (of land), part, portion (metaphorically) (figuratively) 1d) (various special, technical senses)

1d1) sign, monument 1d2) part, fractional part, share 1d3) time, repetition 1d4) axle-trees, axle 1d5) stays, support (for laver) 1d6) tenons (in tabernacle) 1d7) a phallus, a hand (meaning unsure) 1d8) wrists

Now compare this to the meaning of “fourteenth”: Exo 3:20 “And I shall stretch out (H853) My hand and strike (H853) Mitsrayim with all My wonders which I shall do in its midst. And after that he shall let you go.

Exo 7:4 “And Pharaoh is not going to listen to you, and I shall lay (H853) My hand on Mitsrayim, and bring (H853) My divisions and (H853) My people, the children of Yisra’ěl, out of the land of Mitsrayim by great judgments.

What was the significance of this? That Passover/Pesach was to be kept so that the fullness of YHVH’s Hand, Yeshua Messiah, could be revealed to Mitsrayim. (And, all of us who come out of Egypt.)

Exo_12:23 “And יהוה shall pass on to smite the Mitsrites, and shall see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and יהוה shall pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to smite you.

Remember, the word Shachath (Destroyer) in Hebrew was Mamre in Aramaic and meant Word. It was Yeshua that destroyed the first born of Mitsrayim. It would be the first born of Judah that would be killed in an effort to destroy the Messiah. Quite a coincidence isn’t it?

Shemoth 12:43-49 is where we find the Torah of Passover.

Verses 6-14 – These verses are perfect proof of “Grace” in Torah. It would have been easy to say “Tough!” but YHVH made a way possible for a defiled person to partake of this very important meal. This is an example of both “Chesed” and Chane”: H2617 – חסד – chêsêd – BDB Definition: 1) goodness, kindness, faithfulness 2) a reproach, shame ((It is most often translated in the KJV as mercy))

H2580 – חן – chên – BDB Definition: 1) favour, grace, charm 1a) favour, grace, elegance 1b) favour, acceptance

Verse 14 is very important for us, as sojourners with Yisra’el. There is grace enough there for us as well. YHVH in His Wisdom has made a way for us to also come before Him and to observe His Pesach. Verse 14 also proves that there is only one Torah for the Yisra’elite as well as the foreigner, not two. Not Torah for the Jew and the Noahide Laws for everyone else. There is not “unwritten” or “Oral” Torah. It is another deception of Hasatan: Exo_24:4 And Mosheh wrote down all the Words of יהוה, and rose up early in the morning, and built a slaughter-place at the foot of the mountain, and twelve standing columns for the twelve tribes of Yisra’ěl.

Verses 15-22 –  It is a simple word but let’s look at it: H6051 – ענן – ‛ânân – BDB Definition: 1) cloud, cloudy, cloud-mass 1a) cloud-mass (of theophanic cloud) 1b) cloud

What could be the big deal about a cloud, right? Let’s look. It is obvious in this section that it is very important because it is mentioned 11 times in 9 verses and it clearly demonstrates that Yisra’el did not make a move unless it was by the voice of YHVH. Look at the imagery that is given about the cloud. It will present in the light of day and cover the Children of Yisra’el. It will keep them from the heat of the sun and guide them in the day. At night it appears as fire which makes the night as bright as day: Psa 119:105 Nun Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Also, it signifies that YHVH will bless those who walk in the light and Judge those who walk in darkness and burn those who refuse to obey His Word. It also shows us that we are under the cloud of His Authority, covered and protected but those who refuse to obey the commands of Elohim could “burn” because of YHVH’s displeasure. There are many more parallels between this chapter and Psalms and Proverbs than many people understand.
