Num 8:1 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 8:2 “Speak to Aharon, and say to him, ‘When you ascend to trim the lamps, let the seven lamps give light in front of the lampstand.’ ”
Num 8:3 And Aharon did so. He set up the lamps to face toward the front of the lampstand, as יהוה commanded Mosheh.
Num 8:4 And this is the work of the lampstand: beaten work of gold, from its base to its blossoms it is beaten work. According to the pattern which יהוה had shown Mosheh, so he made the lampstand.

בְּהַעֲלֹתְּךָ beha’alotheḵa “when you ascend” gives us a clue as to how tall the temple menorah was (76.5”), so tall that Aharon had to step or ascend in order to trim the 7 lamps of the menorah. Imagine that picture of the High Priest trimming the lamps of the lamp stand in order that there would be sufficient light in the Set-Apart Place: Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice which spoke with me. And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands,
Rev 1:13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Aḏam, Dan_7:13 dressed in a robe down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.
Rev 1:14 And His head and hair were white as white wool, as snow, and His eyes as a flame of fire,
Can anyone say type and shadow? Yeshu’a, our Great High Priest ascended so that out Light would be much brighter, so bright in fact, as for the whole world. What do the 7 lamps represent? Some say that the 7 lamps represent the first 7 words of Genesis 1:1. But we do know for sure that the 7 lamps represent the 7 assemblies in Revelation: Rev 1:20 “The secret of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are messengers of the seven assemblies, and the seven lampstands which you saw are seven assemblies.
Wait a minute, that would mean that this chapter is giving us a prophetic picture of the Second Coming of Messiah. How can that be sense at the time that this was written He had not come the first time.
Zec 4:11 Then I responded and said to him, “What are these two olive trees, one at the right of the lampstand and the other at its left?”
Zec 4:12 And I responded a second time and said to him, “What are these two olive branches which empty golden oil from themselves by means of the two gold pipes?”
Zec 4:13 And he answered me and said, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my master.”
Zec 4:14 And he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Master of all the earth.”
Now let’s compare Zechariah with this: Rev 11:3 “And I shall give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clad in sackcloth.”
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that are standing before the Elohim of the earth.
Let’s look at a little symbolism if you don’t mind: I have already mentioned that the 7 lamps represent the first 7 words in Torah Genesis 1:1 but did you know that the Menorah was supposed to reveal the Light in Torah: Psa 119:105 Nun Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
There are 11 fruit on the Menorah which is supposed to represent the 11 words of Exodus 1:1 but in English it is more than 11.
The nine flowers are supposed to represent the 9 words of Leviticus 1:1, once again in English it takes more words to express the Hebrew thoughts.
The twenty-two cups represent the 22 words of Deuteronomy 1:1.
If these are in the case what about the Books of Numbers? What happened to it? Let’s look at Numbers 1:1. There are 17 Hebrew words there but do the represent anything? Yes, the 17 hand breaths (Tefachim) of the height of the Menorah excluding the very wick holder on the top: 17 x 4.5 = 76.5”.
Here is a funny thing: 7 + 9 + 11 + 22 + 17 = 66. That’s odd, what does this represent except for man. Oh, wait a minute the tops of the lamps were excluded so exclude 17 and it equals 49
Enough about the Menorah.
Num 8:5 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 8:6 “Take the Lěwites from among the children of Yisra’ěl, and you shall cleanse them,
Num 8:7 and do this to them to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of sin offering on them, and they shall shave all their body, and shall wash their garments, and cleanse themselves,
Num 8:8 and shall take a young bull with its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, while you take another young bull as a sin offering.
The Levites have to be cleansed and set-apart and for that something has to die. That doesn’t apply to us because we are not Levites, right? 1Pe_2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,
WOW, there is the Light again.
Num 8:9 “And you shall bring the Lěwites before the Tent of Appointment, and you shall assemble all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ěl.
Num 8:10 “And you shall bring the Lěwites before יהוה, and the children of Yisra’ěl shall lay their hands on the Lěwites,
Num 8:11 and Aharon shall wave the Lěwites before יהוה, a wave offering from the children of Yisra’ěl – so shall they be for doing the service of יהוה.
Num 8:12 “And the Lěwites shall lay their hands on the heads of the young bulls. And one shall be prepared as a sin offering and the other as an ascending offering to יהוה, to make atonement for the Lěwites.
Num 8:13 “And you shall have the Lěwites stand before Aharon and his sons, and then wave them, a wave offering to יהוה.
Num 8:14 “Thus you shall separate the Lěwites from among the children of Yisra’ěl, and the Lěwites shall be Mine.
We see that the people lay their hands on the Levites and the Levites shall lay their hands on the young bulls and then you wave the Levites. How do you wave a full grown man? With your hand holding his hand, high above your head.
Num 8:15 “Then after that the Lěwites shall go in to do service in the Tent of Appointment, when you have cleansed them and waved them as a wave offering.
Num 8:16 “For they are given ones, given to Me from among the children of Yisra’ěl. I have taken them for Myself instead of all who open the womb, the first-born of all the children of Yisra’ěl.
Then, after all of the cleansing and preparation, we, oops, the Levites can enter into the Tent of Appointment and perform the service to YHVH.
Num 8:17 “For all the first-born among the children of Yisra’ěl are Mine, both man and beast. On the day that I struck all the first-born in the land of Mitsrayim I set them apart unto Myself.
Num 8:18 “And I have taken the Lěwites instead of all the first-born of the children of Yisra’ěl.
Num 8:19 “And I have given the Lěwites as a gift to Aharon and his sons from among the children of Yisra’ěl, to do the service of the children of Yisra’ěl in the Tent of Appointment, and to make atonement for the children of Yisra’ěl, that there be no plague among the children of Yisra’ěl when the children of Yisra’ěl come near the set-apart place.”
Verse 17 tells us the YHVH chooses the first born Yisra’el because of Him striking the first born of Mitsrayim. And, because of this YHVH also takes the Levites above the first born. Every first born of man or beast is set-apart to YHVH, except unclean beast who are either ransomed or their neck is broken because an unclean beast cannot be sacrificed.
Num 8:20 Thus Mosheh and Aharon and all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ěl did to the Lěwites according to all that יהוה commanded Mosheh concerning the Lěwites, so the children of Yisra’ěl did to them.
Num 8:21 And the Lěwites cleansed themselves and washed their garments, and Aharon waved them, a wave offering before יהוה, and Aharon made atonement for them to cleanse them.
Num 8:22 Then after that the Lěwites went in to do their service in the Tent of Appointment before Aharon and his sons as יהוה commanded Mosheh concerning the Lěwites, so they did to them.
I guess this is sort of a trick question, not because there is no answer but because it is in the previous Scripture above, why do we do all of this? “that there be no plague among the Children of Yisra’el”
We see cleansing and cleansing and cleansing but how do we cleanses ourselves today? Rev_7:14 And I said to him, “Master, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those coming out of the great distress, having washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
We cannot cleanses ourselves, it is only through the redeeming power of the Blood of our Messiah Yeshu’a.
Num 8:23 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 8:24 “This applies to the Lěwites: From twenty-five years old and above let him come into active service in the service of the Tent of Appointment,
Num 8:25 and at the age of fifty years they retire from active service of the service, and serve no more,
Num 8:26 but they shall attend with their brothers in the Tent of Appointment, to guard the duty, but shall do no service. Thus you shall do to the Lěwites regarding their duties.”
Levites serve active service for 25 years from the age of 25 to the age of 50 and then they retire. Then what? Watch: Num 8:26 but they shall attend with (H854) their brothers in the Tent of Appointment, to guard the duty, but shall do no service. Thus you shall do to the Lěwites regarding their duties.”
Don’t you mean (H853)? No, this is H854 translated as with. Well, what does it look like? H854 – אֵת Alef-Tav. Interesting isn’t it, that only the Alef-Tav makes it possible for us, oops, the Levites to minister to one another, guard the duty of what? Keeping the commands of Elohim and to raise up a new generation.
Ahavah vberakhot,
