At first examination of Chapter 36 we see the predicament of the daughters of Tselophhad being brought up once again.
Mahlah – H4244 – מחלה – machlâh – BDB Definition:Mahlah = disease or sickness.
No’ah – H5270 – נעה – nô‛âh – BDB Definition:Noah = motion or movement. This name is not to be confused with H5146 – נֹחַ – nôach – The same as H5118; rest; Noach, the patriarch of the flood: – Noah. Notice that the meanings are diametrically opposed to each other. The KJV makes it appear as though these two names are the same and they are not.
Hoglah – H2295 – חגלה – choglâh – BDB Definition: Hoglah = partridge.
Milkah – H4435 – מלכּה – milkâh – BDB Definition: Milcah = queen.
Tirtsah – H8656 – תּרצה – tirtsâh – BDB Definition: Tirzah = favourable.
Please permit me to expound on these names:
Mahlah = Genesis – The sickness or disease of mankind was so bad that mankind had to be destroyed except for Noah and his family.
No’ah = Exodus – A plan to redeem the chosen Children of Yisrael was set in motion. They were taken out of Egypt by the very Hand of יהוה and brought to Mt. Sinai to enter into a ketubah.
Hoglah = Wayyiqra = Leviticus – The partridge of the wilderness and Judean Hills has a very very distinctive call as noted in Easton’s Bible Dictionary – “its ringing call-note, which in early morning echoes from cliff to cliff amidst the barrenness of the wilderness of Judea and the glens of the forest of Carmel”. That is why I included the Hebrew name for Leviticus as the clue. Wayyiqra H7121 – קרא – qârâ’ – BDB Definition: 1) to call, call out, recite, read, cry out, proclaim “Wayyiqra = “He called out”. But it goes even deeper than this. Look at the Hebrew word for “partridge”: H7124 – קרא – qôrê’ – BDB Definition: 1) partridge Please note: active participle of H7121.
Milkah = Numbers – Milkah is the feminine form of Malik (king), queen. The Hebrew name for Numbers is Bemidbar which means ‘in the wilderness”. It is in the wilderness that Yisrael, as the Bride of יהוה becomes the ‘queen’ and inherits the Promise Land. As much as most want to make Yisrael masculine remember the role of the Children of Yisrael is to be the Bride of the King of Kings.
Tirtsah = Deuteronomy – Favourable can refer to the Promise land or, it can also refer to יהוה s right-rulings toward the Children of Yisrael. I think Mosheh says it best: Deu 30:9 “And יהוה your Elohim shall make you have excess in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground for good. For יהוה turns back to rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers,
Deu 30:10 if you obey the voice of יהוה your Elohim, to guard His commands and His laws which are written in this Book of the Torah, if you turn back to יהוה your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being.
Deu 30:11 “For this command which I am commanding you today, it is not too hard for you, nor is it far off.
Deu 30:12 “It is not in the heavens, to say, ‘Who shall ascend into the heavens for us, and bring it to us, and cause us to hear it, so that we do it?’
And also John: 1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy,
And Yeshua: Mat 11:30 “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”
This is what I believe that ‘favourable’ refers to.
Verse 13 uses two words, commands and right-rulings. The ‘church’ has decided to do away with these because of ‘grace’, which is mentioned more than twice as many times in the original writings as it is in the B’rit Hasdasha. This has dangerous implications. Let’s take a look.
Commands – H4687 – מִצְוָה – mitsvâh – From H6680; a command, commandment, law or legal precept.
Right-rulings – H4941 – משׁפּט – mishpâṭ – BDB Definition: 1) judgment, justice, ordinance.
But look and see what the danger of doing away with them is: Psa 89:14 Righteousness and right-ruling Are the foundation of Your throne; Kindness and truth go before Your face.
Psa 97:2 Clouds and darkness all around Him, Righteousness and right-ruling are the foundation of His throne.
Now, the bad news. If we do away with His right-rulings we have undermined יהוה s Throne.
Shalom.
