42nd Day of Counting the Omer
Verse 2 begins with Command – H6680 – צוה – tsâvâh -BDB Definition: 1) to command, charge, give orders, lay charge, give charge to, order. If you will do a search in E-Sword or similar program on H6680 you will see something very interesting. It is almost always followed by H853 – את – which, as we have discussed is a prophetic marker rather than being a translatable word. There is speculation among Hebrew scholars that the ancient meaning associated with the word was ‘come’ based upon its appearance in the quote for the Book of Battles of יהוה, in Numbers 21:14-20. I don’t believe this to be the case because of the quote from יהוה in verse 16: “Gather the people, and let Me give them water.” I believe this is a direct reference to the coming of Yeshua. Hmm, maybe that is what they meant to say.
Also in verse two is the word ‘boundaries’ – geḇulah – Strong’s H1367 meaning, ‘border, boundary, territory, landmark’ and it is often translated as ‘coasts’ in the KJV. Tehillah/Psalm 16:6 “Boundary lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; indeed, a good inheritance is mine.”
The word for border in verse 3 is peah – Strong’s H6285 meaning, ‘side, corner, boundary, edges’
Lev 19:9 ‘And when you reap the harvest of your land, do not completely reap the corners of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
Lev 19:27 ‘Do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of your beard.
Lev 21:5 they do not make any bald place on their heads, and they do not shave the corner of their beard, and they do not make a cutting in their flesh.
So, the moral here is: YOU CANNOT CUT CORNERS IN יהוה s KINGDOM!!!
Said another way, everything must fall within the boundary, or borders of Torah. If, not, it is suspect.
Look at verse 5 and note that one of the boundaries is the Wadi of Mitzrayim. This is the present day border of Israel at the southern end of the Negeb(v) – H5045 – נגב – negeb – BDB Definition: south-country, Nekeb, south. Today the “Brook of Egypt” (as it reads in some translations, is known as the Wadi Alarish. This boundary was agreed to by both Egypt and Israel in the Sinai Peace Treaty, aka the Camp David Peace Accords because both sides could prove historically that it was the boundary.
The word for north – H6828 – צפן / צפון – tsâphôn – BDB Definition:1) north (of direction), northward. The word is used because of Mt. Tsaphon, remember there are three, is north of Israel in what is today southern Syria and was the seat of Ba’al worship: Exo 14:2 “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, that they turn and camp before Pi Haḥiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baʽal Tsephon – camp before it by the sea.
This was the Ba’al Tsephon that was north of La Nuweiba Beach, on the east side of the Sea of Reeds, not the one in Syria.
Remember, the purpose for what יהוה did to Egypt was to execute judgement on the gods of Egypt:
Exo 12:12 ‘And I shall pass through the land of Mitsrayim on that night, and shall smite all the first-born in the land of Mitsrayim, both man and beast. And on all the mighty ones of Mitsrayim I shall execute judgment. I am יהוה.
So, right in front of a mountain dedicated to Ba’al יהוה worked the miracle of parting the sea.
The word for east is – H6924 – קדמה / קדם – qedem / qêdmâh – BDB Definition:east, antiquity, front, that which is before, aforetime (noun masculine). Eden was thought to be east of the River Euphrates which was supposed to be the northern boundary of Israel. (Gen. 15:18)
The word for west is – H3220 – ים – yâm – BDB Definition: 1) sea
1a) Mediterranean Sea
1h) seaward, west, westward

Have you ever heard your parents say something like, “Don’t get out of this yard.” Or, “Don’t go near the road.” Or better yet, “Be back by supper time.”? Of course we have, if our parents cared for us, they set boundaries. Therefore, if a loving parent sets boundaries for the good of their children isn’t it only natural that a loving Father would set boundaries for His Children as well? Do parents set boundaries just to be mean to their children? Look at how YHVH tells Mosheh to tell the Children of Yisra’el:
H6680 – צוה – tsâvâh – BDB Definition: 1) to command, charge, give orders, lay charge, give charge to, order. So, this is a command or, in other words, this is not an option.
I’m sorry to do this to you but we need some vocabulary for this chapter right from the git go:
H1367 – גּבלה / גּבוּלה – gebûlâh / gebûlâh – BDB Definition: 1) border, boundary
H5045 – נגב – negeb – BDB Definition: 1) south-country, Nekeb, south (Negev or Negeb)
H6924 – קדמה / קדם – qedem / qêdmâh – BDB Definition:1) east, antiquity, front, that which is before, aforetime (noun masculine) ((In other words going back to the time of Eden))
H5158 – נחלה / נחלה / נחל – nachal / nachlâh / nachălâh – BDB Definition: 1) torrent, valley, wadi, torrent-valley ((It is also proper to translate this as “brook”))
H6828 – צפן / צפון – tsâphôn – BDB Definition: 1) north (of direction), northward
Believe it or not this is a very important chapter of Scripture because during the finalizing of the Sinai Peace Treaty a.k.a. this passage focused everyone’s attention on the southern border of Israel and , everyone, Israeli and Egyptian agreed that the line of demarcation for the Nation of Israel is the Wadi or Brook of Egypt. This is important because many, many modern scholars believe that Israel is supposed to inherit all the way to the Nile River and this is FALSE.
Unfortunately, the great scholars of Christian theological doctrine; Cecil B. DeMille, Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, just to name a few, have firmly instilled into the minds of many Christians what Israel and Egypt should look like and what Torah should read like. But it just isn’t true, makes for great cinema, but it simply isn’t true.
Look in Verse 2 and you will see that boundary is used in conjunction with inheritance: Psa 16:6 Boundary lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, a good inheritance is mine.
Our inheritance in the Kingdom of Heaven has to fall within certain boundaries. We should not try to expand those boundaries, you know like living in the clouds or in the stars playing a harp. Revelation 22 and Zechariah 14 make it very clear we will be here on the RENEWED Earth worshipping Elohim and keeping Torah forever. When did Yeshu’a say that Torah would pass away? Where do we find YHVH’s boundaries for our lives?
Now here is another important vocabulary word found in Verse 3: H6285 – פּאה – pê’âh – BDB Definition: 1) corner, edge, side, quarter, extremity
Lev 19:9 ‘And when you reap the harvest of your land, do not completely reap the corners of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
Lev 19:27 ‘Do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of your beard.
What is our take away here? There will be no cutting corners in the Kingdom of Heaven!
Look carefully at the description of the boundaries set before the Children of Yisrael and tell whether or not this is what was promised to Abraham? If so, why? If not, why not?

Ahavah,
