Lesson date: 04/22/5857AA
Verses 1-2 – The above phrase is “Naqam neqamat” ((H5358 – H5360)) which means “take vengeance”. Idt is a command. If you read Verse 2 carefully YHVH is telling Mosheh, “Mosheh, I have one last assignment for you before you die, take vengeance on the Midyanites: Deu 32:35 Vengeance is Mine, and repayment, At the time their foot slips; For near is the day of their calamity, And the matters prepared are hastening to them.’
Vengeance is according to YHVH’s timing, not ours.
I can’t go into all the details but, in March of 1981, only weeks after President Reagan was sworn into office, there was an assassination attempt on President Reagan and I went into a hissy fit about George H.W. (Short for Hell is Waiting) Bush wanting to assassinate Reagan to be President in order to institute is evil agenda. My dad very patiently listened to me and went I was tired or out of breath he told me, “Son, I know you know all this is true but one day the Great Equalizer is coming and he will have to pay for what he has done.” My response was something to the effect, “Yes, but he is getting away with until then.”
This is very similar to what YHVH told Mosheh except it sounded more like, “Son (Mosheh), their time has come.” YHVH does not say “Do not take vengeance.” What He says is that it is according to His Plan and His Time, not ours. “Son/Daughter, their time will come.”
I weep as I think about what Mosheh must have felt, pride? No! Vindication for the evil done to the Children of Yisra’el. Remember chapters 24 and 25, what Bil’am and Amaleq did to the Children of Yisra’el to entice them with sex into bowing and worshipping their gods. I can almost hear Mosheh yell out, while shaking his fist in the distance, “Before I die, I’m coming for you Bil’am.” He had been given one more great duty to perform. Remember what I am telling you because it is not far from what the Hebrew reveals. Yes, I am adding my own spin on this but we will look at the Hebrew to see what it adds to the narrative.
הַמִדיָּנִים – Ha-Midyanites – H4084 – Ha just means “the”. Midyanites comes from the root word – Madon – H4066 – strife, contention, so their very name means strife: Tit 3:9 But keep away from foolish questions, and genealogies, and strife and quarrels about the Torah, for they are unprofitable and useless.
“Vengeance” in Verse 3 is now H5360 – נקמה – neqâmâh – not a command.
Verses 4-7 – Tell me if this sounds familiar. Haven’t you read something similar in the not too distant past? Deu 20:4 for יהוה your Elohim is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
Neh 4:20 “In whatever place you hear the voice of the shophar, join us there. Our Elohim fights for us.”
They followed YHVH’s command and killed all the men of the Midyanites and Bil’am who had instructed them in how to deceive the Children of Yisra’el by using the women to lead them astray and they brought everyone and everything left back to the camp.
Verse 8 – The 5 kings of Midyan who were killed: Evi – H189 – Desirous, My lust
- Reqem – H7552 – many colors, to variegate, to embroider, to alter the physical appearance
- Tsur – H6698 – Rock ((It was his daughter, Kozbi, who was killed by Pinehas.))
- Hur – H2354 – Hole comes from H2357 – Havar – to grow pale.
Reba – H7254 – four or the fourth part; from the root Raba – H7250 – to lie stretched out, to mate. ((It is interesting to note that “raba” is only used 3 times in Scripture and each time it is used about a woman who lies down with an animal to mate.))
My lust will alter the physical appearance of the Rock (to a rock) and grow pale (you grow pale when you are “sick”) to lie down with it. ((Remember what Kozbi meant? My lie!))
Has the lust of the world altered the physical appearance of the Rock (Yeshu’a) into “just another rock” another false god, something made by man’s hands, something that pales in comparison to the real Rock and the world has just laid down in bed with the whoredom of Rome? (The fourth kingdom of Daniel 7 which in Chaldee is “arba” and Aramaic it is “rabiyah”) Rev 17:1 And one of the seven messengers who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying to me, “Come, I shall show you the judgment of the great whore sitting on many waters,
Rev 17:2 with whom the sovereigns of the earth committed whoring, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her whoring.”
Also, remember 3 horns were plucked out and another came up in their place and spoke great balsphemies? Daniel 7:8
1Pe 2:11 Beloved ones, I appeal to you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts which battle against the being,
Look at the prophecy contained in Debarim: Deu 32:4 “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are right-ruling, An Ěl of truth and without unrighteousness, Righteous and straight is He.
Deu 32:5 “A twisted and crooked generation has corrupted itself, Their blemish, they are not His children.
Deu 32:30 “How would one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had sold them, And יהוה had given them up?
Deu 32:31 “For their rock is not like our Rock – Even our enemies are judges.
Deu 32:32 “Their vine is of the vine of Seḏom And of the fields of Amorah; Their grapes are grapes of gall, Their clusters are bitter.
Deu 32:33 “Their wine is the poison of serpents, And the fierce venom of cobras.
Verses 9-18 – Mosheh and El’azar come out to see the booty taken by the army of 12,000 and realize they have kept the women alive. The very women that they lusted after and cuased Israel to sin and brought about a plague. The women and boys were killed but the maidens were kept alive.
Verse 19 – This is big really BIG. Be cleansed on the third day and the seventh day: Mat 12:40 For as Yonah was three days and three nights in the stomach of the great fish, so shall the Son of Aḏam be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Joh 2:19 יהושע answered and said to them, “Destroy this Dwelling Place, and in three days I shall raise it.”
Hos 6:2 After two days He shall revive us, on the third day He shall raise us up, so that we live before Him.
Rev_18:4 And I heard another voice from the heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
Isa 52:11 Turn aside! Turn aside! Come out from there, touch not the unclean. Come out of her midst, be clean, you who bear the vessels of יהוה.
2Co 6:17 Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says יהוה, and do not touch what is unclean, and I shall receive you.
Jer 51:6 Flee from the midst of Baḇel, and let each one save his life! Do not be cut off in her crookedness, for this is the time of the vengeance of יהוה, the recompense He is repaying her.
Jer 51:45 “Come out of her midst, My people! And let everyone deliver his being from the burning displeasure of יהוה.
Jer 50:8 “Flee from the midst of Baḇel, come out of the land of the Kasdim. And be as rams before a flock.
And the seventh day? The seven days of Creation and the seven millennial ages: Psa 90:4 For a thousand years in Your eyes Are like yesterday that has past, Or like a watch in the night.
2Pe 3:8 But, beloved ones, let not this one matter be hidden from you: that with יהוה one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
7 Days = 7,000 years; 7 days of Sukkot equal the 7 earthly ages and the 8th Day = Rev. 21.
It is in the 7th Day that the Final Atonement will be made
H2398 – חטא – châṭâ’ – BDB Definition: 1) to sin, miss, miss the way, go wrong, incur guilt, forfeit, purify from uncleanness. “Chata” means to miss the mark of Torah: 1Jn 3:3 And everyone having this expectation in Him cleanses himself, as He is clean.
1Jn 3:4 Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
1Jn 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
Jas 4:8 Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!
Cleanse hands sinners means for us to clean up our works, to clean up our “act”.
Verses 20-23 – Purify all! Cleanse every garment: Rev 3:18 “I advise you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, so that you become rich; and white garments, so that you become dressed, so that the shame of your nakedness might not be shown; and anoint your eyes with ointment, so that you see.
Rev 6:11 And there was given to each one a white robe, and they were told that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brothers, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
Rev 19:7 “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him praise, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife prepared herself.”
Rev 19:8 And to her it was given to be dressed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteousnesses of the set-apart ones.
Rev_7:14 And I said to him, “Master, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those coming out of the great distress, having washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
All elements are purified by fire: 2Pe_3:12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of Elohim, through which the heavens shall be destroyed, being set on fire, and the elements melt with intense heat!
Verse 27 – Please notice, only after everything is purified is the spoil is divided into two parts; those who went out and fought as commanded and those that did not. Are there any similarities here with the teachings of Yeshu’a and the apostles?
H4371 – מכס – mekes – BDB Definition: 1) computation, proportion to be paid, tribute, tax
Mat 25:28 Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to him who possesses ten talents.
Mat 25:29 ‘For to everyone who possesses, more shall be given, and he shall have overflowingly; but from him who does not possess, even what he possesses shall be taken away.
My take away from this parable is that being a believer is not a spectator sport.
This is what was taken in plunder besides all the booty of ornaments of gold, silver, garments etc.:
- Sheep – 675 000
- Cattle – 72 000
- Donkeys – 61 000
- People – 32 000 (all women who had not known a man)
The portion given to El’azar from the half portion given to the men who went out on the campaign (1 for every 500):
- Sheep – 675
- Cattle – 72
- Donkeys – 61
- People – 32
The portion to the Lěwites from the half portion given to the congregation (1 for every 50):
- Sheep – 6750
- Cattle – 720
- Donkeys – 610
- People – 320
Now the freewill offering by the commanders was 16,750 shekels = @$11,600,000.00
