Lesson date: 4/8/5857AA
In reading Chapter 28 you have to ask yourself, “Why is YHVH repeating the sacrifices now?” And the answer would be, “Because the old generation has died out that performed the sacrifices around Mt. Sinai and need to hear this instruction for the “new” generation of the Children of Yisra’el.” Remember, at this time, the generation of Yisra’elite men have not even been circumcised and won’t be until after they cross the Jordan River and enter into the Promised Land.
Verses 1-2 – the word for “command” is H6680 – צוה – tsâvâh – BDB Definition: 1) to command, charge, give orders, lay charge, give charge to, order. This word is a military term to show the Army of Yisra’el that their Commander has spoken but, in the same sentence the tenor of the command will change from personal to intimate: H7133 – קֻרְבָּן קָרְבָּן – qorbân qûrbân – kor-bawn’, koor-bawn’ From H7126; something brought near the altar,
H7126 – qarab – means to draw near or join in much the same way as a bridegroom might draw his bride near so that he may kiss her: Jas 4:8 Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!
If the offering is made at the “appointed time” it will be a sweet fragrance to YHVH: Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Messiah also has loved us, and gave Himself for us, a gift and an offering to Elohim for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
Verses 3-5 – We see the command to prepare two lambs of their first year, one in the morning and one between the evenings: Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man who shall not walk in the counsel of the wrong, And shall not stand in the path of sinners, And shall not sit in the seat of scoffers,
Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the Torah of יהוה, And he meditates in His Torah day and night.
In Verse 5 we see a device used that I had not really thought about before(nothing new there, right.) Why does the Scripture say 1/10th of an ephah? What is 1/10th of an ephah? If you look at the dry measure table on page 1233 of your ISR you will see that 1/10th of an ephah is an omer so, why not say an omer? Ever think about that? Exo 16:36 And an omer is one-tenth of an ěphah.
Okay, here is your clue: Exo 30:13 “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, twenty gěrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the contribution to יהוה.
A half shekel (10 gerahs) would be the price of an omer and we were redeemed in the silver of the Set-Apart Place ½ shekel. The 1/10th of an ephah is so you and I will remember ½ shekel and also for us to remember that it takes 10 righteous people to make a righteous government (Gen. 18:32). It should remind us that we are not individual believers but one of a body of believers.
Yisra’el would view this lamb as the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world: Joh 1:29 On the next day Yoḥanan saw יהושע coming toward him, and said, “See, the Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!
Verse 6 – The phrase ‘continual ascending offering’ in the Hebrew is – עֹּלָה תָמִּיד – ‘olah tamiyḏ’: ‘ olah represents the idea of ascending stairs and tamiyd heightens the idea of forever, continually perpetually.
Verse 7 – The drink offering is to be poured out, not consumed by the priests: Lev 10:9 “Do not drink wine or strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the Tent of Appointment, lest you die – a law forever throughout your generations,
Also, for the wine to be poured out as a sacrifice, doesn’t it make us think of Yeshu’a’s blood being poured out so that we could be adopted into the family of Yisra’el? Do you think Sha’ul may have been thinking of that we he wrote: Php 2:17 In fact, even if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the offering and service of your belief, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
Php 2:18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
Verses 8-10 – The command is for two additional lambs to be sacrificed in addition to the two continual lambs being sacrificed: Mat_12:5 “Or did you not read in the Torah that on the Sabbath the priests in the Set-apart Place profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
Verses 11-15 – In our walk, trying to find our true heritage rather than the lies and traditions that we did inherit, many have tried to perpetuate other lies and traditions to justify their own beliefs. We see in these verses that there is a sacrifice to commemorate the “new moon” as the beginning of our months. Many want to hold to the idea of a solar based calendar because they see one in 1 Enoch or Jubilees and this is simply not true. YHVH uses the cycle of the moon to confound this idea of a solar based calendar so that we have to depend on Him and not adopt the “wisdom” of man which was used in most pagan religions: Psa 81:3 Blow a shophar in the New moon, in the covering for the day of our festival.
Here is an interesting verse, one of many, showing that the month is measured by the moon and not the sun: 1Ki 6:38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, the eighth new moon, the house was completed in all its matters and according to all its plans. Thus he built it for seven years.
The word in green for month is: H3391 – ירח – yerach – BDB Definition: 1) month (lunar cycle), moon
And, the word in yellow for new moon is: H2320 – חדשׁ – chôdesh – BDB Definition: 1) the new moon, month, monthly
We see both words for moon being used to indicate a month
Verse 16 – Instructs us to remember and keep Passover on the 14th day of Aviv (Abib).
Verses 17-25 – These are the instructions for keeping the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It was the confusion of the “Church” not knowing and keeping YHVH’s feasts that led to the idea of Good Friday. One more tradition rooted in willful disobedience. It reminds me of a scene from a movie where a rebellious child puts his hands over his ears and starts shouting, “Na na na na na na” to keep from hearing the truth. That is what I was, a rebellious child not wanting to hear the Truth contain in Yah’s Word. If I had genuinely believed in John 1 I would have wanted to seek out the Truth but I was the rebellious child with his hand over his ears not wanting to hear any other truth than what I had been taught. It took a wake up call to get my attention and remove my hands from my ears and listen to Yah’s Word rather than man’s words.
