Verse 1 – Believe me, we all have our Kushite woman. We may not have any siblings but we all have our Kushite woman.
When Mosheh was a young man the Ethiopians invaded Egypt and carried off a lot of treasure from Egypt. Mosheh was gaining in popularity in the Egyptian Royal Court and many members were jealous of him because everyone knew he was of Hebrew heritage. YHVH placed it upon certain ones in the royal court, the old wizard Bilaam of Pe’or may have been one of them, to conspire against Mosheh so another Hebrew would not inherit the throne of Egypt, to implore upon Pharaoh to make Mosheh general. It was common knowldege that the Ethiopians, at this time were stronger than the Egyptians so the courtiers were certain that Mosheh would be killed in Ethiopia, if he went off to battle or at least disgraced if he lost.
Hearing that Mosheh was leading the army of the Pharaoh the Ethiopians retreated into their own land to trap Mosheh and his army but YHVH gave Mosheh the wisdom to overcome the tricks of the Ethiopians and followed them to Saba, their capital city. Believing that it was just a matter of time before Mosheh would give up, the Ethiopians waited for the Egyptians to get tired of seiging the city and also the thousands or millions of deadly serpents that lived near the river. Once again YHVH gave Mosheh wisdom to kill the serpents without loss of life to his men. Everyday Mosheh would come out of of the Egyptian camp and ride around the walls of the Ethiopian fortress to inspect it trying to develop a plan to enter the city. Each day, the daughter of the Ethiopian king would watch the handsome young Mosheh circle the city and was soon in love with him since he was so handsome and courageous. Her name was Tharbis and she sent her handmaiden to Mosheh to discuss a marriage covenant with him and he agreed on one condition, that Tharbis make it posssible for his army to take the city, which she did. The Egyptian Army entered the city, beat the Ethiopians, Mosheh consummated his marriage agreement and returned victorious to the Egyptian Royal Court. The end!
Not one word was ever said again about Tharbis, the princess of Kush (Ethiopia) until now and it was Miryam, her name is mentioned first, that led the challenge against her little brother, Mosheh’s authority.
Miryam = rebellion, rebellious, to rebel against
Aharon = Lightbringer
Miryam rebelled against the Lightbringer or Miryam lead the rebellion against the Lightbringer. Do you see why Miryam was singled out in the punishment more so than Aharon. Let’s put it in context: go all the way back to Exodus 23:20-21: Exo 23:20 “See, I am sending a Messenger before you to guard you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.
Exo 23:21 “Be on guard before Him and obey His voice. Do not rebel against Him, for He is not going to pardon your transgression, for My Name is in Him.
This is referring to the messenger in the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire, Yeshua. Mosheh was a type and shadow of Yeshua: Deu 18:15 “יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers. Listen to Him,
Deu 18:16 according to all you asked of יהוה your Elohim in Ḥorěḇ in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of יהוה my Elohim, nor let me see this great fire any more, lest I die.’
Deu 18:17 “And יהוה said to me, ‘What they have spoken is good.
Deu 18:18 I shall raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers. And I shall put My Words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
Deu 18:19 And it shall be, the man who does not listen to My Words which He speaks in My Name, I require it of him.
H8085 – שׁמע – shâma‛ – BDB Definition: 1) to hear, listen to, obey (verb) ((Remember the definition of shama. Show me you are listening by doing what I say. Obey.))
By rebelling against Mosheh, Miryam was proving they would rebel against the Messiah, Yeshua. No transgression against the messenger in the pillar of cloud/fire would be allowed. To rebel against the messenger was death (eternal death in the case of Yeshua).
Why do I say we all have a Kushite woman? How many times do people bring up things that you did when you were young to use that against your witness to them? They might say, “I remember when you were the barhoppingest hound dog in three counties.” Or, “I remember when you used to lead a covey of boys around with your little finger.” Or, here is an oldie but a goodie, “Why, you’re divorced. You can lead us. You’re an adulterer/ess.” They are accusing the one who brings light because they cannot stand the Light: Joh 8:12 Therefore יהושע spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but possess the light of life.
Joh 9:5 “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Act 10:40 “Elohim raised up this One on the third day, and let Him be seen,
Act 10:41 not to all the people, but to witnesses, those having been chosen before by Elohim – to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
Act 10:42 “And He commanded us to proclaim to the people, and to witness that it is He who was appointed by Elohim to be Judge of the living and the dead.
Act 10:43 “To this One all the prophets bear witness, that through His Name, everyone believing in Him does receive forgiveness of sins.”
We see the name of Mosheh in the gospels and most of the time it is used to mean Torah: Act 15:21 “For from ancient generations Mosheh has, in every city, those proclaiming him – being read in the congregations every Sabbath.”
If you bring the Light into your home, family, community, qahal(church), workplace there will be an accuser, a rebel against that Light. They will bring up your Kushite woman to attack you and to try and nullify your witness.
Verse 4 – Anyone notice anything wrong here?
Verses 5-9 YHVH rebukes Aharon and Miryam before the camp.
Verses 10-12 Miryam is struck with leprosy and Aharon intercedes for her. The Lightbringer intercedes for the Rebel. Isn’t that interesting. Look at Aharon’s description: Num 12:12 “Please do not let her be as one dead when coming out of his mother’s womb,
He describes her condition as “one dead when coming out of his mother’s womb”. Mat 26:24 “Indeed, the Son of Aḏam goes as it has been written concerning Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Aḏam is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
Rev_3:5 “He who overcomes shall be dressed in white robes, and I shall by no means blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I shall confess his name before My Father and before His messengers.
Verses 13 – 15 – Mosheh intervenes for Miryam and calls for forgiveness and healing. Verse 14 uses a common curse, that of the father spitting in the face of a disobedient (rebellious) child. The child, even though an adult in years, would be publicly humiliated for 7 days. Even in the 1970’s this was still a practice in most of the Middle East.
Verse 16 – Remember in Bemidbar 11:35 we see that the Children of Yisra’el departed Taberah, the place of burning, and went to Hatseroth, a settlement or a place of yards. After the mixed multitude spoke out and lusted for the things of Mitsrayim, the soft things and the delicacies (in their opinion) that they had in Mitsrayim and YHVH’s fire burned against them and killed many, they departed for Hatseroth. Now they depart from Hatseroth, after rebelling against Mosheh and are brought to the Wilderness of Paran. H6290 – Paran = “place of caverns”
- wilderness area bounded on the north by Palestine, on the west by the wilderness of Etham, on the south by the desert of Sinai, and on the east by the valley of Arabah; the exodus was through this area and probably all 18 stops were in this area
Please notice the highlighted and underlined portion of this definition. If we get far enough this afternoon this will become important to today’s study in Revelation. But remember it for whenever we cover Chapter 6 if not today.

The Kushite Woman
This is really a very tiny chapter but, remember the old saying, “tiny but mighty.” Chapter 12 speaks volumes about how all of us are human and have weaknesses. In fact, when looking at a cast of characters, it appears that YHVH picks the wrong people. No! YHVH knows that person intimately and in spite of who they are, He uses them to do mighty works. Look at everything Ya’aqob, David and Samson accomplished in spite of their human failings. The following information about Mosheh’s past is taken from Josephus so that you will see the context of the accusation against him.
Verse 1 – Believe me, we all have our Kushite woman. We may not have any siblings but we all have our Kushite woman in varying degrees
When Mosheh was a young man the Ethiopians invaded Egypt and carried off a lot of treasure from Egypt. Mosheh was gaining in popularity in the Egyptian Royal Court and many members were jealous of him because everyone knew he was of Hebrew heritage.
