Bemidbar (Numbers) 10

Lesson date: 07/24/5860AA

Verses 1-2 – We see that Mosheh is commanded to have two silver trumpets constructed that will be used for the signal to gather or break the camp of the Children of Yisra’el. Before we look at the trumpet itself let’s look at the material from which it is constructed, silver.

Silver is the price of redemption. If you had previously set apart a field or house, if you wished to redeem it it had to be with silver: Lev_27:15 ‘And if he who sets it apart does redeem his house, then he shall add one-fifth of the silver of your evaluation to it, and it shall be his.

Lev_27:19 ‘And if he who sets the field apart ever wishes to redeem it, then he shall add one-fifth of the silver of your evaluation to it, and it shall be his.

It is with silver that the first born of Yisra’el are redeemed: Num_3:50 From the first-born of the children of Yisra’ěl he took the silver, one thousand three hundred and sixty-five pieces, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place.

Remember, it was only blood that could make an atonement for sin: Lev 17:11 ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the slaughter-place to make atonement for your lives, for it is the blood that makes atonement for the life.’

Silver was the price that had to be paid as the price of blood to make atonement: Exo 30:16 “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ěl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Appointment. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ěl for a remembrance before יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.”

Yoseph was sold for the price of a male slave, 20 pieces of silver: Gen 37:28 And men, Miḏyanite traders passed by, so they pulled Yosěph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Yishma‛ělites for twenty pieces of silver. And they took Yosěph to Mitsrayim.

It was Yeshu’a who was sold for the price of a bride: Mat 26:14 Then one of the twelve, called Yehuḏah from Qerioth, went to the chief priests,

Mat 26:15 and said, “What would you give me to deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

Mar 10:45 “For even the Son of Aḏam did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Even the Word of Elohim has been likened to silver: Psa 12:6 The Words of יהוה are clean Words, Silver tried in a furnace of earth, Refined seven times.

Think about the words above. The purest silver does not tarnish. It is the impurities, especially sulphur that causes the most corrosion of silver. Silver is an amazing metal in the electrical industry because of its unique alignment of electrons. All of these qualities are known to YHVH because He created them. As a “brass” musician I can attest to the fact that silver plated instruments have a much “crisper” or “sharper” tonal quality than just a brass or lacquered brass instrument. Almost all mouthpieces for “brass” instruments are made of silver plated brass.

For veterans and active duty it is easy to imagine the trumpets playing Reveille or Retreat. Below is the word used for trumpet. This is not an animal horn so it is not a shofar.

H2689 – חצצרה – chătsôtserâh – BDB Definition: 1) trumpet, clarion

For all of those who have been in the military it is easy to see that the language used is of a military nature. It is important to remember what we discussed in the opening chapters of Bemidbar, that this is a mustering of YHVH’s army and the Congregation of Yisra’el is in boot camp and learning to function as an army, march as an army, strike camp as an army, pitch camp as an army and obey commanders as an army.

Now, let’s look again at the passage from Psalms 12:6: The Words of יהוה are clean Words, Silver tried in a furnace of earth, Refined seven times.

Do you see the relevance? In today’s Christian theology the Word is not refined 7 times to have all the impurities removed. Perhaps, it has only been refined 6 (the number of man) times and it contains too many impurities and is tarnished. It lacks the luster, brightness and clarity of sound of having been refined 7 times and the message that it carries is confused or weak: 1Co 14:8 For indeed, if the trumpet makes an indistinct sound, who shall prepare himself for battle?

The Word has been mixed with dogmas, doctrines and lies: Jer_14:14 Then יהוה said to me, “The prophets prophesy falsehood in My Name. I have not sent them, nor commanded them, nor spoken to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own heart.

Jer_16:19 O יהוה, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the nations shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value in them.”

Col 2:14 having blotted out that which was written by hand against us – by the dogmasd – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.

Deu_4:2 “Do not add to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it, so as to guard the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I am commanding you.

Deu_12:32 “All the words I am commanding you, guard to do it – do not add to it nor take away from it.

Pro 30:6 Do not add to His Words, Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

Rev 22:18 For I witness to everyone hearing the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, Elohim shall add to him the plagues that are written in this book,

Rev 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, Elohim shall take away his part from the Book of Life, and out of the set-apart city, which are written in this Book.

Verse 3-6 – Okay, all of this had relevance to ancient Israel but what about us New Testament Christians? None of this has any meaning for us today, right? Care to speculate? Look what happens when you blow the trumpet AND shout: Mat 24:31 “And He shall send His messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

1Th 4:16 Because the Master Himself shall come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first.

1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Verses 8-9 – Verse 8 makes it clear that this is a law forever in your generations. When we battle the enemy YHVH will hear the trumpets and remember His Covenant which He Swore and save us from our enemies.

Verse 10 – The trumpets should be blown for the New Moon offering and also the Moedim offerings and they will remind US that YHVH is our Elohim and call us to remembrance of all the great and wonderful things He has done for us.

Verses 11-13 – This is a record of Yisra’el’s first deployment or bivouac. Twentieth day of the second month of the second year. Two is a number that represents union, husband & wife, two witnesses in the end time, two witness needed to convict a person for a crime worthy of death but above all it represents two acting in unison as one. Yisra’el for the first time was going to act as one.

Verse 14-27 – This is a very important verse to demonstrate “the end from the beginning”. Look at the word “banner” = H1714 – degel – דֶּגֶל. Now look at the word sometimes used for thigh, regel = רֶגֶל as found in Rev. 19:16: דֶּגֶל – רֶגֶל, notice how easy it would be to make the mistake of assuming that a Dalet was actually a Resh. We do know that the Obedient Son, Yeshu’a Hamashiach, would never violate His Father’s Commands such as, tattooing His Body or exposing His Thigh.

Yehudah – praised
Yissakar – there is recompense
Zebulon – exalted
Re’uben – behold a son
Shimon – heard
Gad – troop
Ephrayim – doubly fruitful
Menashsheh – causing to forget
Binyamin – son of the right hand
Dan – judge
Asher – happy one
Naphtali – Wrestling

Praised! There is Recompense from the Exalted! Behold A Son who Heard His Troop(Soldiers), Who Is Doubly Fruitful and Causes us To Forget. The Son of the Right Hand is the Judge, the Happy One, who is Wrestling our Enemy.

We see in verse 25 that the tribe of Dan was the rearguard or brought up the rear. It comes from the word: H622 – אסף – ‘âsaph – BDB Definition: 1) to gather, receive, remove, gather in 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to gather, collect 1a2) to gather (an individual into company of others) 1a3) to bring up the rear

1a4) to gather and take away, remove, withdraw

You can see it used here: Isa 52:11 Turn aside! Turn aside! Come out from there, touch not the unclean. Come out of her midst, be clean, you who bear the vessels of יהוה.

Isa 52:12 For you shall not come out in haste, nor go in flight. For יהוה is going before you, and the Elohim of Yisra’ěl is your rear guard.

Verses 29 -32 The plea for Re’uw’el to stay with Yisra’el goes out to him and he follows Yisra’el.

Verse 33 – The complete a journey of 3 days.

Verses 34-36 Moshe proclamations according to the movement of the Ark of the Covenant.

Ahavah vberakhot,
