Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 8 — Clothed in Righteousness

Lesson date: 5/10/5856AA

Verses 1-5 – It is obvious that there is about to be a sacrifice but it will also be a meal. It is going to be a very special meal and it will take place for 7 days. But before Aharon and his sons attend this meal they must be dressed in the proper attire. But, before this can happen the “royal priesthood” must be washed: Rev_7:14 And I said to him, “Master, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those coming out of the great distress, having washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Here we see Mosheh taking on the role of intermediary between the royal priesthood and YHVH. For us today, Yeshua is our intermediary between the royal priesthood and YHVH: 1Pe_2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,

I know I have used this illustration many times but it is very illustrative of the detail in which these garments of righteousness were designed and constructed.

Verse 7 – What is the first layer of clothing? The long white shirt woven of fine linen. What is fine linen? H8336 – שׁשׁי / שׁשׁ – shêsh / sheshı̂y– BDB Definition: 1) something bleached white, byssus, linen, fine linen.

A fine, bleached white, covering sounds a lot like something someone would wear if they were invited to a Hebrew wedding: Mat 17:2 and He was transformed before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as the light.

Mat_17:2 and He was transformed before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as the light.

Mar 9:3 And His garments became glittering, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth is able to whiten.

Yeshua put on His white robe and we also must have on white robes if we want to attend the wedding feast of the Lamb: Mat 22:12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.

Mat 22:13 “Then the sovereign said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him out into the outer darkness – there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

What was the next layer? Girded with the girdle. But what is the purpose of the girded? Too make the priest look thinner? Isa 11:5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of His loins, and trustworthiness the girdle of His waist.

Eph 6:14 Stand, then, having girded your waist with truth,

And what was next? The robe to which the shoulder garment would be attached. Let me show you something very interesting, at least to me, about the robe: H4598 – מעיל – me‛ı̂yl – BDB Definition:

1) robe 1a) a garment worn over a tunic by men of rank 1b) a long garment worn by David’s daughters

1c) a garment of the high priest

H4598 comes from the root word H4603: H4603 – מעל – mâ‛al – BDB Definition: 1) to act unfaithfully, act treacherously, transgress, commit a trespass

What is the difference in these two words? Here is a clue, it lies in the spelling.

What is the next layer? (Isa. 61:10)

What comes next? (H2805 and this is the last time it is used in Scripture.)

Verse 8 – The next layer is: ? . Next, what goes with this layer?

Verse 9 – These two articles are next.

Wait a minute, what happened to his sandals? What does Isaiah and Sha’ul say about this?

Verses 10-13 – Mosheh doing as commanded by YHVH. This is what He what from us, obedience.

He anointed Aharon to set him apart “qadash”. Mosheh then had to dressed Aharon’s sons with shirts, girdles and turbans.

Verses 14-17 – Once again we see that without blood there is no atonement for sin. 2Ti 2:20 But in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some unto value and some unto no value.

2Ti 2:21 If, then, anyone cleanses himself from these matters, he shall be a vessel unto value, having been set apart, of good use to the Master, having been prepared for every good work.

Verses 18-21 – This ram is for an ascending offering to YHVH.

Verses 22-25 – The second ram is treated differently. In verses 23-24 we see that some of the blood is used to anoint the right ear, thumb of the right hand and big toe of the right foot for each man. They are being prepared to Hear the Truth, Do the work of Elohim and, to walk in the right Way of Yah’s Word.

Verses 26-31 – A meal is being prepared meat and unleavened bread. Where do we see this?

Verse 32 – Anything not eaten is to be burned with fire.

Verse 33 – Aharon and his sons are commanded to stay inside the Tent of Appointment for 7 days and to not go outside. How will they eat and drink?

Verses 34-36 – Obeying all that YHVH has commanded brings life but, disobedience brings death.
