Lesson date: 9/26/5856AA
Once again we find a chapter that has little meaning to the lifestyle of 2020 mankind, or does it really? If we read this Scripture with a cursory understanding of Scripture we could say that this chapter is really a waste of my time. What makes this chapter important to us today?
What is the difference between separating a vow and vowing a vow? Is it important? Deu_13:14 then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. And see if the matter is true and established that this abomination was done in your midst,
Pro_25:2 It is the esteem of Elohim to hide a matter, And the esteem of sovereigns to search out a matter.
Once again, this Scripture is pivotal in deciphering the Book of Daniel. It helps us to understand the B’rit Hadasha better and even brings us into a closer relationship with our Messiah, Yeshua Hamashiach. Wow, I said a lot so it goes without saying I can fall flat on my face. ((With a nose like mine I can do it many times before I have to worry.))
Vocabulary: ((Look at the meaning of the word for “separates”))
H6381 – פּלא – pâlâ’ – BDB Definition: 1) to be marvellous, be wonderful, be surpassing, be extraordinary, separate by distinguishing action 1a) (Niphal) 1a1) to be beyond one’s power, be difficult to do 1a2) to be difficult to understand 1a3) to be wonderful, be extraordinary 1a3a) marvellous (participle)
Isa_9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful (H6382), Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ((Separate by distinguishing action?)) Still think it has nothing to do with us today?
H5088 – נדר / נדר – neder / nêder – BDB Definition: 1) vow, votive offering ((comes from 5087))
H5087 – נדר – nâdar – BDB Definition: 1) to vow, make a vow 1a) (Qal) to vow a vow
To vow a vow would be “nadar neder”. But, in Scripture, “nadar” takes on other meanings such as: to bind, imprison or to dedicate a specific object or creature to YHVH. Therefore, when we vow a vow it is to YHVH and not man. Mat 5:33 “Again, you heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to יהוה.’
Mat 5:34 “But I say to you, do not swear [vainly] at all, neither by the heaven, because it is Elohim’s throne;
Mat 5:35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Yerushalayim, for it is the city of the great Sovereign;
Mat 5:36 nor swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.
Mat 5:37 “But let your word ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ And what goes beyond these is from the wicked one.
Psa 61:8 So I sing praise to Your Name forever, When I pay my vows day by day.
Psa 116:14 I pay my vows to יהוה Now in the presence of all His people.
Jon 2:9 “But I slaughter to You with the voice of thanksgiving, I pay what I have vowed. Deliverance is of יהוה.”((Wait a minute is that a vow?))
Psa 118:14 Yah is my strength and song, And He has become my deliverance.
Exo 15:2 “Yah is my strength and song, and He has become my deliverance. He is my Ěl, and I praise Him – Elohim of my father, and I exalt Him.
Isa 12:2 “See, Ěl is my deliverance, I trust and am not afraid. For Yah, יהוה, is my strength and my song; and He has become my deliverance.”
Deliverance in the four Scriptures above is H3444 = Yeshua but I’m sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself. Separating a vow. Here are two classic examples: Jdg 13:17 Then Manowaḥ said to the Messenger of יהוה, “What is Your name? When Your words come true, then we shall esteem You.”
Jdg 13:18 And the Messenger of יהוה said to him, “Why do you ask My name, since it is wondrous (H6383)?” ((remember, there is no punctuation in Biblical Hebrew. Hint hint, go back to Isa. 9:6))
Jdg 13:19 And Manowaḥ took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it upon the rock to יהוה. And He did wondrously while Manowaḥ and his wife looked on.
Jdg 13:20 And it came to be, as the flame went up toward the heavens from the slaughter-place, that the Messenger of יהוה went up in the flame of the slaughter-place. And Manowaḥ and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground.
Jdg 13:21 And the Messenger of יהוה did not appear any more to Manowaḥ and his wife. Then Manowaḥ knew that He was a Messenger of יהוה.
Jdg 13:22 And Manowaḥ said to his wife, “We shall certainly die, because we have seen Elohim!”
Jdg 13:23 But his wife said to him, “If יהוה had been pleased to put us to death, He would not have accepted an ascending offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all this, nor would He have let us hear the like of this!”
Jdg 13:24 So the woman bore a son and called his name Shimshon. And the child grew, and יהוה blessed him.
Example two: 1Sa 1:11 And she made a vow and said, “O יהוה of hosts, if You would indeed look on the affliction of your female servant and remember me, and not forget your female servant, but shall give your female servant a male child, then I shall give him to יהוה all the days of his life, and let no razor come upon his head.”
1Sa 1:24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ěphah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the House of יהוה in Shiloh. And the child was young.
1Sa 1:25 And they slew a bull, and brought the child to Ěli.
1Sa 1:26 And she said, “O my master! As your being lives, my master, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to יהוה.
1Sa 1:27 “I prayed for this youth, and יהוה has granted me what I asked of Him.
1Sa 1:28 “So I have also loaned him to יהוה. All the days that he lives he shall be loaned to יהוה.” And he worshipped there before יהוה.
Did you notice that Hannah, the mother of Shemu’el vowed before the priest, Eli, so much so, that he thought she was drunk.
Verse 3-8 – Oh, this is cruel, it is putting a value on human life, people might say today. When Von and I would go to the nursing home to see about Mama Ethel we would have to listen to commercials on the TV the whole time we were there: “I am with the law firm of ABC and we will get you what you deserve.”
Who is to say what a person is worth? An attorney? A judge? Let’s look at some valuation that will help us solve problems in prophecy: A male age 20 – 60 ((fighting age)) – 50 shekels; a woman 20 – 60 ((marrying age)) – 30 shekels; 5 – 20 years old male 20 shekels; female 5 – 20 – 10 shekels; a new born to 5 year male 5 shekels; new born to 5 female 3 shekels; 60 – above – male – 15 shekels; 60 and above female 10 shekels.
Let’s break it down:
- 20 – 60 male – 50 shekels (age of a fighting man or working man)
- 20 – 60 female – 30 shekels (age of a marrying woman or working woman)********* Big clue.
- 5 – 20 male – 20 shekels (age of a young man to work)
- 5 – 20 female – 10 shekels (age of a young woman. Please note she is cheaper because she could leave when she gets married.)
- 1 mo. – 5yr. Male – 5 shekels (not old enough to do heavy work)
- 1mo. – 5 yr. Female -3 shekels (same as above)
- 60+ male 15 shekels (too old to do heavy work but can still train young men)
- 60+ female 10 shekels (too old to do heavy work but can train young women)
Now, look above and tell me how old Yeshua was when he was betrayed. How much was he betrayed for? Why? Who sets the value? Mat 27:9 Then was filled what was spoken by Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him who was pierced, on whom they of the children of Yisra’ěl set a price,
Zec 11:12 And I said to them, “If it is good in your eyes, give me my wages. And if not, refrain.” So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.
Zec 11:13 And יהוה said to me, “Throw it to the potter,” the splendid price at which I was valued by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the House of יהוה for the potter.
So, why did Yeshua willingly forfeit His Life for 30 pieces of silver? The Wife (Israel) Who Commits Adultery:
- Write curses in a book: Number 5:23 (Exodus 32:19-20)
- Must drink bitter water: Numbers 5:24 (Exodus 32:19-20)
- Slain with a sword (blade): Ezekiel 16:38-40; 23:47; (Exodus 32:26-28)
- Forsaken by husband: Deuteronomy 31:16-17
- Husband hides his face from wife: Deu. 31:18; Isa. 8:17; 54:8
- Stripped naked: Hosea 2:2-3; Ezekiel 23:22,26
- Slain with thirst: Hosea 2:2-3
- Laughed to scorn: Ezekiel 23:32
- Mocked: 2 Kings 19:21; Isaiah 37:22
- Cast lots: Joel 3:3; Obadiah 1:11
Yeshua Taking On the Sin of the Unfaithful Wife:
- Blotting out curses: Col. 2:14; Gal.3:13
- Drink the bitter cup: Matt. 26:42; 27:48
- Pierced with a blade (spear) John 19:34
- Forsaken: Matt. 27:46
- Hid His Face: Matt. 27:45 (Darkness representing YHVH turning His Face)
- Stripped naked: Matt. 27:28
- Thirst: John 19:28
- Laughed to scorn: Matt. 9:24; Mark 5:40; Luke 8:53
- Mocked: Matt. 27:31; Luke 23:36
- Cast lots: Matt. 27:35; Luke 23:34: John 19:24
What is the answer to the question as to why?
How much was Joseph sold for? What does that tell us about his age? Gen 37:28 And men, Miḏyanite traders passed by, so they pulled Yosěph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Yishma‛ělites for twenty pieces of silver. And they took Yosěph to Mitsrayim.
After reading this chapter and having the benefit of the B’rit Hasasha we can now readily see that we, as the rebellious, adulterous wife Yisra’el, were redeemed for 30 pieces of silver: 1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the Dwelling Place of the Set-apart Spirit who is in you, which you have from Elohim, and you are not your own?
1Co 6:20 For you were bought with a price, therefore esteem Elohim in your body and in your spirit, which are of Elohim.
I think this chapter highlights two very big misconceptions in Christianity: silver is what redeems us and the fact that we have to be redeemed because we were the adulterous wife. We chased after other gods, gods of our making and we took on traditions and dogmas in place of YHVH’s Torah. Remember this:
1 On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
We can’t exchange it for a crown. It has no value. It is just another man-made god to kneel down in front of and say your prayers to: Exo 20:4 “You do not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of that which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth,
Exo 20:5 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Exo_34:14 for you do not bow yourselves to another mighty one, for יהוה, whose Name is jealous, is a jealous Ěl
Why? What is so special about silver that it is the price of redemption?
K – kaf – open hand, to cover, to open, to allow
x – samech – pierce, sharp, to grab hold of, shield (shepherds use thorns to protect sheep)
P – pey – to speak, word, to open
The hand of Elohim (Messiah) was pierced for us to know the Word (Torah).
Another important we must take into consideration about this chapter is that each vow is a voluntary vow that we are to entering to of our own free will. This is not a command but a choice we make in our worship and service to Elohim.
Verses 17-24 – Take into account the Yobel and prorate the value accordingly.
Verse 25 – This tiny little verse seems so innocuous but it is the key to unraveling the prophecy of Daniel 5.
Verse 26 – The first born is already set-apart to YHVH and cannot be set-apart to anyone else.
Verse 27 – Why would someone dedicate and unclean animal to YHVH?
Verse 28-29 – This may sound confusing because of the use of the word “ban”. Remember the words “charem” and “charam” and “cherem” H2763/H2764. They can mean devoted, dedicated, set aside in a religious ordinance but can also carry the idea of being “dedicated to destruction”. Verse 28 is using it in the sense of “devoted or dedicated” and verse 29 is using it in the connotation that it is dedicated to destruction. In other words this verse closes a loophole to escape destruction by dedicating someone to YHVH and then later ransoming them, they must be put to death.
Verses 30-31 – All the tithe of the produce of the land belongs to YHVH but if you need to redeem it you add 20% of its value in silver to redeem it. ((This could be due to a drought or famine.))
Verse 32 – Another very important verse prophetically. Pass under the rod equates to 10% being set-apart to YHVH. This is very important for understanding Ezekiel 20:37 as it applies to Lev. 26.
Verse 33 – “Never look a gift horse in the mouth” or “Never sniff a gift fish”.
Verse 34 – These are the commands YHVH commanded Mosheh.
