Chapter 16 taught how important blood was to make atonement for our sins, especially verses 9, 15 & 16. ((Compare to John 1:33-36)) Now, we see that killing an animal in field was equated to making offerings to demons. In our culture today many times the very first time we see any meat for food it is on a sesame seed bun. We are disconnected from the cycle of life and death in the preparation of our food and we have no idea under what conditions the animal died nor how it was prepared.
In ancient cultures the death of a sheep or goat or larger animal was in preparation of celebrating a special event i.e. a wedding, not a daily occurrence. Smaller animals, such as birds or fish, provided the bulk of the meat for the family’s daily or weekly diet. Bread became the substitute for meat in many cultures.
In Chapter 17 we are being taught to treat the blood with the respect due to it. The life of the animal is in the blood and since it is an offering to YHVH it must be treated with the proper respect. Eze 33:24 “Son of man, they who inhabit those ruins in the land of Yisra’ěl are saying, ‘Aḇraham was only one, and he inherited the land. But we are many, let the land be given to us as a possession.’
Eze 33:25 “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “You eat meat with blood, and you lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood. Should you then possess the land?
Eze 33:26 “You depend on your sword, and you commit abominations, and each of you defiles his neighbour’s wife. Should you then possess the land?” ’
We now know that the are many things that happen to the animal under stress. Hormones are produced that can have a negative impact on the human body, some have linked it to cancer. In today’s culture we are hearing a lot, no, too much, about adrenochromes taken from human blood, especially that of children. The fact that it is a topic in today’s society proves how far we have fallen as a society.
Lets go back to Leviticus 16: Lev 16:9 “And Aharon shall bring the goat on which the lot for יהוה fell, and shall prepare it as a sin offering.
And now its parallel verse: Joh 1:29 On the next day Yoḥanan saw יהושע coming toward him, and said, “See, the Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!
This is a very important correlation. Yeshua did die as an acceptable substitute offering for sin. He did not die as a human sacrifice but He did die in our place so that we could enjoy a covenant relationship with our Father: Rom 7:1 Or do you not know, brothers – for I speak to those knowing the Torah – that the Torah rules over a man as long as he lives?
Rom 7:2 For the married woman has been bound by Torah to the living husband, but if the husband dies, she is released from the Torah concerning her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then, while her husband lives, she shall be called an adulteress if she becomes another man’s. But if her husband dies, she is free from that part of the Torah, so that she is not an adulteress, having become another man’s.
Rom 7:4 So my brothers, you also were put to death to the Torah through the body of Messiah, for you to become another’s, the One who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to Elohim.
Because of our sin of adultery Yeshua had to die so that we could be released from Deut. 24:1-4 (Torah). Having risen from the grave a “New Man” Yeshua can now take His bride Once again. Having learned this we must treat His Blood Sacrifice with respect for the accomplishment and sacrifice He made: Heb 10:28 Anyone who has disregarded the Torah of Mosheh dies without compassion on the witness of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29 How much worse punishment do you think shall he deserve who has trampled the Son of Elohim underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was set apart as common, and insulted the Spirit of favour?
Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Set-apart Spirit,
Heb 6:5 and have tasted the good Word of Elohim and the powers of the age to come,
Heb 6:6 and fall away, to renew them again to repentance – having impaled for themselves the Son of Elohim again, and put Him to open shame.
Calvinism, of which I was at one time an adherent, tramples the blood of the Son of Elohim underfoot teaching “Once saved, always saved.” (Also called the Perseverance of the Saints Doctrine.) Php_2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
What is there to fear and why should we tremble if it is “Once saved, always saved.” What is there to work out? Work how?
There are many such manmade doctrines in the modern Christian church that make light of the sacrifice of Yeshua and we have talked about them many times. Let’s look at what Sha’ul says: Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Messiah? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Messiah?
1Co 10:17 Because there is one bread, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.
1Co 10:18 Look at Yisra’ěl after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the slaughterings sharers in the slaughter-place?
1Co 10:19 What then do I say? That an idol is of any value? Or that which is slaughtered to idols is of any value?
1Co 10:20 No, but what the nations slaughter they slaughter to demons and not to Elohim, and I do not wish you to become sharers with demons.
1Co 10:21 You are not able to drink the cup of the Master and the cup of demons, you are not able to partake of the table of the Master and of the table of demons.
1Co 10:22 Do we provoke the Master to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
1Co 10:23 All is permitted me, but not all do profit. All is permitted me, but not all build up.
1Co 10:24 Let no one seek his own, but each one that of the other.
1Co 10:25 You eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions because of conscience,
1Co 10:26 for “The earth belongs to יהוה, and all that fills it.”
1Co 10:27 And if any of the unbelievers invite you, and you wish to go, you eat whatever is set before you, asking no question on account of the conscience.
1Co 10:28 And if anyone says to you, “This was slaughtered to idols,” do not eat it because of the one pointing it out to you, and on account of the conscience, for “The earth belongs to יהוה, and all that fills it.”
1Co 10:29 Now I say conscience, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience?
1Co 10:30 But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for what I give thanks?
1Co 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the esteem of Elohim.
This sounds almost like we can eat anything as long as we give thanks for the meal, right? Remember, unclean meat was not considered food so it would not even be a part of the reasoning of Sha’ul. Here is an example of what I think he is talking about. Many times the Christian holiday of Easter is very near YHVH’s Passover. If we partake in the Passover/Pesach meal and then we run over to a friend’s house and eat Easter Sunday dinner the next day we are trying to straddle a fence and fence straddling can lead to a painful fall: Jos 24:14 “And now, fear יהוה, serve Him in perfection and in truth, and put away the mighty ones which your fathers served beyond the River and in Mitsrayim, and serve יהוה!
Jos 24:15 “And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve יהוה, choose for yourselves this day whom you are going to serve, whether the mighty ones which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the mighty ones of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But I and my house, we serve יהוה.”
1Ki 18:21 And Ěliyahu came to all the people, and said, “How long would you keep hopping between two opinions? If יהוה is Elohim, follow Him; and if Ba‛al, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.
In the thirty-first verse of 1 Corinthians above we find the key; whatever we do we must to to the esteem of Elohim. I have had people tell me that they respected my commitment and my passion. Some changed and some didn’t, not because of me, but because the Ruach led them to a knowledge of the timeless nature of Torah. Some have told me, “I’m not giving up my seafood, or fish or pork, etc.” All I can say about that is: Php 3:19 Their end is destruction, their mighty one is their stomach, and their esteem is in their shame – they mind the earthly.
Rom 16:17 Now I call upon you, brothers, watch out for those who cause divisions and stumbling, contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.
Rom 16:18 For such ones do not serve our Master יהושע Messiah, but their own stomach, and by smooth words and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the innocent.
1Co_6:13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods – but Elohim shall destroy both it and them. And the body is not for whoring but for the Master, and the Master for the body.
I underlined the phrase above because to me it indicates that we show whom we serve by what we eat.
Ahavah,
