Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 13 — Torah of Leprosy

Lesson date: 6/2/5856AA

Verses 1-2 – Torah of Leprosy. H6883 – צרעת – tsâra‛ath – BDB Definition: 1) leprosy 1a) in people, malignant skin disease (Lev. 13-14) 1b) in clothing, a mildew or mould (Lev_13:47-52) 1c) in buildings, a mildew or mould (Lev. 14:34-53)

Leprosy could be any skin infection up and including dandruff, eczema, psoriasis or any visible dermatitis. In buildings it would be mold or mildew.

Let’s look at the stages and see if this is all about skin problems or could it be more:
Verse 2 – The Outbreak – A scab or bright spot is visible – Isa 3:16 And יהוה says, “Because the daughters of Tsiyon are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and seductive eyes, walking and mincing as they go, making a jingling with their feet,

Isa 3:17 therefore יהוה shall smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Tsiyon, and יהוה expose their nakedness.”

Verse 7 – The Spread – Scabs spread over the skin – Isa 1:5 Why should you be stricken any more? You continue in apostasy! All the head is sick, and all the heart faints.

Isa 1:6 From the sole of the foot, to the head, there is no soundness in it – wounds and bruises and open sores; they have not been closed or bound up, or soothed with ointment.

Verse 10 – Full Outburst – raw flesh in the swelling – a picture of hatred setting in – Amo 5:10 They hated the one who reproves in the gate, and they despise the one who speaks the truth.

Isa 59:14 And right-ruling is driven back, and righteousness stands far off. For truth has fallen in the street, and right is unable to enter.

Isa 59:15 And the truth is lacking, and whoever turns away from evil makes himself a prey. And יהוה saw, and it displeased Him that there was no right-ruling.

2Ti 4:3 For there shall be a time when they shall not bear sound teaching, but according to their own desires, they shall heap up for themselves teachers tickling the ear,

2Ti 4:4 and they shall indeed turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths.

Verse 24 – Consuming Inflammation – burns and burning – be consumed with His Love and walk in Obedience or be consumed with His Wrath – Isa 3:24 And it shall be: Instead of a sweet fragrance, a smell of decay; and instead of a belt, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a festal robe, a girding of sackcloth; and branding instead of loveliness.

Finally, we see the believer is consumed with rage at a perceived wrong and their faces flush red. The plague of leprosy has now consumed from their heads to their toes and produces strife and discord. How can this all consuming plague be cured?

Eph 4:26 “Be wroth, but do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down on your rage,

Eph 4:27 nor give place to the devil.

Jas 1:14 But each one is enticed when he is drawn away by his own desires and trapped.

Jas 1:15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. And sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.

Jas 1:16 Do not go astray, my beloved brothers.

Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning.

Jas 1:18 Having purposed it, He brought us forth by the Word of truth, for us to be a kind of first-fruits of His creatures.

Jas 1:19 So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath,

Jas 1:20 for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of Elohim.

Jas 1:21 Therefore put away all filthiness and overflow of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted Word,b which is able to save your lives. Footnote: bSee Mat_13:4-23.

Jas 1:22 And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

So, is this “pandemic” hopeless? Is there no cure? Yes, there is a cure: 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is trustworthy and righteous to forgive us the sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2Co 7:1 Having, then, these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting set-apartness in the fear of Elohim.

There is a cure but like all cures if you do not take them, just leave them on the shelf, rather than taking them into the innermost parts of your life, they won’t work: Rev 9:20 And the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship the demons, and idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood, which are neither able to see, nor to hear, nor to walk.

Rev 16:9 And men were burned with great heat, and they blasphemed the Name of Elohim who possesses authority over these plagues. And they did not repent, to give Him esteem.

In order to be declared clean we have to go before the priest and be inspected: Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was tried in all respects as we are, apart from sin.

Heb 4:16 Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of favour, in order to receive compassion, and find favour for timely help.

Once we have been declared clean we have to keep our garments clean: Rev 3:4 “Nevertheless, you have a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their garments. And they shall walk with Me in white, because they are worthy.

Rev 3:18 “I advise you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, so that you become rich; and white garments, so that you become dressed, so that the shame of your nakedness might not be shown; and anoint your eyes with ointment, so that you see.

Rev 16:15 “See, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who is staying awake and guarding his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

What keeps these garments white? Job_29:14 I put on righteousness, and it robed me; right-ruling was my cloak and turban.

Psa_132:9 Let Your priests put on righteousness, And Your lovingly-committed ones shout for joy.

Isa_59:17 And He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of deliverance on His head. And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped Himself with ardour as a mantle.
