Verses 1-4 – This chapter will help us to better understand what took place in the life of Yeshua. Once again, church doctrine has supplanted Yah’s Word. To better understand what Scripture is telling us we must look first at verses 1-4, then we must look to Luke 2:21-24 and then Sukkot. We have already looked at the dedication of the Temple by Solomon so, we do not have to review that but it will be worth reviewing what we talked about so that people will not be mislead by the “doctrine” of Hanukkah (Dedication) which has crept into Netzarim belief.
Tazria – “she is with seed” – comes from the root word “zara” – H2232 – to scatter, or sow seed, to conceive, give birth, offspring.
Niddah – H5079 – נדּה – niddâh – BDB Definition: 1) impurity, filthiness, menstruous, set apart 1a) impurity 1a1) of ceremonial impurity 1a2) of menstruation 1b) impure thing (figuratively) 1b1) of idolatry, immorality
****Please note: Niddah is a huge subject which we have not covered in detail but it is very important for understanding the teaching of separation. Believe it or not it is related to prophecy.****
Many people teach that His parents brought Yeshua to the temple when He was 8 days old to be dedicated. This is totally wrong. Let’s compare: Lev 12:2 “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘When a woman has conceived, and has given birth to a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days, as in the days of her monthly separation she is unclean.
Lev 12:3 ‘And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin is circumcised.
Lev 12:4 ‘And she remains in the blood of her cleansing thirty-three days. She does not touch whatever is set-apart, and she does not come into the set-apart place until the days of her cleansing are completed.
The mother is unclean 7 days. Period! Then the subject is the male child and on the eighth day the child is circumcised. Now, go back to the mother who must remain in her cleansing 33 more days making a total of 40 days for the mother. Compare this with the B’rit Hadasha: Luk 2:22 And when the days of her cleansing according to the Torah of Mosheh were completed, they brought Him to Yerushalayim to present Him to יהוה –
Luk 2:23 as it has been written in the Torah of יהוה, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called set-apart to יהוה”
Luk 2:24 and to give an offering according to what is said in the Torah of יהוה, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” (two pigeons or turtledoves was the acceptable sacrifice for a woman of poor means) 2Co 8:9 For you know the favour of our Master יהושע Messiah, that being rich, He became poor for your sake, so that you might become rich through His poverty.
It is clear that Miryam was coming to the temple on the 40th day of her cleansing, not the 8th. Shim’on held Yeshua up on the 40th day of His life not the 8th day. Luk 2:25 And see, there was a man in Yerushalayim whose name was Shim‛on, and this man was righteous and dedicated, looking for the comforting of Yisra’ěl. And the Set-apart Spirit was upon him.
Luk 2:26 And it had been revealed to him by the Set-apart Spirit that he would not see death before he sees the Messiah of יהוה.
Luk 2:27 And he came in the Spirit into the Set-apart Place. And as the parents brought in the Child יהושע, to do for Him according to the usual practice of the Torah,
Luk 2:28 then he took Him up in his arms and blessed Elohim and said,
Luk 2:29 “Now let Your servant go in peace, O Master, according to Your word,
Luk 2:30 for my eyes have seen Your deliverance,
Luk 2:31 which You have prepared before the face of all the peoples,
Luk 2:32 a light for the unveiling of the nations, Isa_42:6, Isa_49:6 and the esteem of Your people Yisra’ěl.”
Now, let’s look at Sukkot: Lev 23:36 ‘For seven days you bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. On the eighth day there shall be a set-apart gathering for you, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a closing festival, you do no servile work.
Lev 23:39 ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh new moon, when you gather in the fruit of the land, celebrate the festival of יהוה for seven days. On the first day is a rest, and on the eighth day a rest.
The eighth day or Shemini Atseret(h) is a closing festival, a sabbath. If Yeshua was born on the first day of Sukkot He would have been 8 days old and could be circumcised on that day. Who circumcised Yeshua? It could have been a local Levite or either the father of the groom or the father of the bride. It could even have been done by Yoseph himself under the watchful eye of one of the other three.
Here is a tradition that should be of interest to us; on the 8th day of Sukkot the rabbi grabs the Torah scroll and raises it above his head and runs down the street shouting”the Torah has legs, the Torah has legs.” Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh(grew legs) and pitched His tent among us,(First day of Sukkot) and we saw His esteem, esteem as of an only brought-forth of a father, (Lifted up: Num 6:26 יהוה lift up His face upon you, and give you peace.” ’) complete in favour and truth.
Coincidence?
Verse 5 – Please note that the cleansing period for a female infant is a total of 80 days, twice that of a male child. This has absolutely nothing to do with Eve causing the Fall. Remember, it was Adam’s responsibility to guard the garden and the fall is blamed on Adam. 1Co 15:21 For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a Man.
1Co 15:22 For as all die in Aḏam, so also all shall be made alive in Messiah.
This has nothing to do with a woman is worth less than a man, based on the valuation of servants. It is a cultural belief found in most Semitic peoples, Asians and also many Native Americans. Upon marriage a young woman will leave her father’s house(and mother) and go to the house of her groom. The mother loses a daughter twice, at birth the first time and upon marriage, the second time.
