Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 1-3

Lesson date: 04/13/5856AA

Chapter 1

Verse 1 – Wayyiqra – H7121 – from qara – “And He called”. This is the fourth time we see this word used with reference to Mosheh.

1.= Exo 3:4 And יהוה saw that he turned aside to see, and Elohim called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Mosheh! Mosheh!” And he said, “Here I am.”

YHVH calls out to Mosheh to establish a relationship with him and teaches Mosheh His Name.

2.= Exo 19:3 And Mosheh went up to Elohim, and יהוה called to him from the mountain, saying, “This is what you are to say to the house of Ya‛aqoḇ, and declare to the children of Yisra’ěl:

Exo 19:4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Mitsrites, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

Exo 19:5 ‘And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples – for all the earth is Mine –

YHVH calls out to Mosheh, from the mountain, to establish a wedding covenant relationship with Mosheh and the Children of Yisra’el.

3.= Exo 24:16 And the esteem of יהוה dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. And on the seventh day He called to Mosheh out of the midst of the cloud.

YHVH calls Mosheh out on the seventh day, an appointed time, but look where Mosheh is being summoned – a cloud.

Luk 21:27 “And then they shall see the Son of Aḏam coming in a cloud with power and much esteem.

Rev_14:14 And I looked and saw a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was One like the Son of Aḏam, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.

Rev_14:15 And another messenger came out of the Dwelling Place, crying with a loud voice to the One sitting on the cloud, “Send Your sickle and reap, because the hour has come for You to reap, because the harvest of the earth is ripe.”

Rev_14:16 And the One sitting on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

This occurrence hints at another appointed time, Yom Teruah.

4.= This time YHVH is calling Mosheh from inside the Tent of Appointment. Joh 14:23 יהושע answered him, “If anyone loves Me, he shall guard My Word. And My Father shall love him, and We shall come to him and make Our stay with him.

1Co_3:16 Do you not know that you are a Dwelling Place of Elohim and that the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you?

Doesn’t this mirror out relationship with the Father, through His Son Yeshua Messiah? Does he not calls us out of Mitsrayim/Wilderness and then calls us to establish a covenant relationship with Him. Then, and only then, can we see the importance of the Appointed Times of YHVH and keep them so that He will dwell with us and preserve us during Yom Kippur so that we will be worthy of attending the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.

Now, look at the root word, qara – H7121 and see how it relates to us: Lev 23:2 “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and say to them, ‘The appointed times of יהוה, which you are to proclaim as set-apart gatherings, My appointed times, are these:

Miqra – H4744 – is used 20 times in Torah and 10 of those times are in Wayyiqra 23. We are a set-apart people – miqra and we keep the set-apart times of our Father.

Verse 2 – H7133 – קֻרְבָּן  קָרְבָּן – qorbân qûrbân – kor-bawn’, koor-bawn’  From H7126; something brought near the altar, draw near

Jas 4:8 Draw near to Elohim and He shall draw near to you. Cleanse hands, sinners. And cleanse the hearts, you double-minded!

Verses 3-17 – First type of offering: H5930 – עולה / עלה – ‛ôlâh – BDB Definition: 1) whole burnt offering 2) ascent, stairway, steps.

This offering must be a willing offering and it is given, from he heart, when we break the instructions (Torah) of Elohim.

In verses 4-5 we see that the bull is brought to the Door of the Tent of Appointment (John 10:7 & 9) and the individual will place his hand on the bull’s head, thereby transferring his sin upon the sacrifice and, then the individual will cut the throat of the animal. He then skins the animal, cuts it up and washes the entrails. This is all because of failing to do Torah. We, the sinners, had to do the dirty work for the High Priests. Now, we have a High Priest who has already done the dirty work for us so that we can now have a relationship with our Father: Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Our sacrifice must be willing, in the proper spirit, from the heart and in accordance with YHVH’s instructions, Torah: Pro 15:8 The slaughtering of the wrong ones Is an abomination to יהוה, But the prayer of the straight is His delight.

Psa 51:15 O יהוה, open my lips, And that my mouth declare Your praise.

Psa 51:16 For You do not desire slaughtering, or I would give it; You do not delight in ascending offering.

Psa 51:17 The slaughterings of Elohim are a broken spirit, A heart broken and crushed, O Elohim, These You do not despise.

Rom 12:1 I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship.

Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

Chapter 2 – Grain offering – Why? Why oil? Why frankincense?

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Messiah also has loved us, and gave Himself for us, a gift and an offering to Elohim for a sweet-smelling fragrance.

Verse 2- Remembrance portion: Luk 22:19 And taking bread, giving thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you, do this in remembrance of Me.”

Verse 11 – Why no leaven? Why no honey?

Verse 13 – Why must the offering have salt?

Mat 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt becomes tasteless, how shall it be seasoned? For it is no longer of any use but to be thrown out and to be trodden down by men.

Salt cannot be destroyed by heat or water but it can be destroyed by mixing it with another chemical agent (false teachings).

Chapter 3 – Peace offerings (3:1-17)

Notice the logical progression starting in Shemoth (Exodus) 40. The Dwelling Place is assembled; and then, YHVH calls out from the Dwelling place to initiate a relationship. Then, we have a meal, Pesah and the Remembrance Meal and we can now “draw near” to Elohim: Rom 5:1 Therefore, having been declared right by belief, we have peace with Elohim through our Master יהושע Messiah,

Rom 5:2 through whom also we have access by belief into this favour in which we stand, and we exult in the expectation of the esteem of Elohim.

The word for “peace offering” is shelemim: H8002 – שׁלם – shelem – BDB Definition: 1) peace offering, requital, sacrifice for alliance or friendship 1a) voluntary sacrifice of thanks. It comes from the root word Shalem – H7999 – and it means to be complete, finished, whole. The “peace offering” is so that we can have a complete or whole relationship with Elohim.

Col 1:19 Because in Him all the completeness was well pleased to dwell,

Col 1:20 and through Him to completely restore to favour all unto Himself, whether on earth or in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of His stake.

Col 1:21 And you, who once were estranged and enemies in the mind by wicked works, but now He has completely restored to favour

Col 1:22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you set-apart, and blameless, and unreprovable before Him,

Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the belief, founded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the expectation of the Good News which you heard, which was proclaimed to every creature under the heaven, of which I, Sha’ul, became a servant,

Ahavah vberakhot
