Lesson date: 2/22/5856AA
Verse 1 – Put verse 1 in the context Mosheh = Torah and what you have is that Torah brought the people out of the land of Mitsrayim, the land of bondage. He took us out of the land of bondage, Mitrrayim, Egypt, Babylon and brought into the Wilderness, to teach us and train us so that now He can bring us to the Land of our inheritance. Without learning to walk in His Way, the Torah of Freedom, we are just an undisciplined mob, some going one way and others another: Jas_1:25 But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.
Jas_2:12 So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.
I often look upon being a follower of Torah as being in the military. It takes 8 weeks of intensive training for you to learn the very basics of military life. After that, you spend many weeks and or months learning your job and function within the branch of military you are in. You are taught your role within your respective branch of service and how important it is and how others depend on you in order for them to do their job. You have a language and dress that sets you apart from the rest of the world. You don’t think like a person not in the military. You have a duty to perform your role no matter what in order to keep the military system from breaking down and collapsing into chaos.
One of the things that I enjoyed in the military was, I could be sent anywhere in the world and I knew what my job was going to be and how to do it because I had been thoroughly trained in my role within the military. I knew how to interact with the other branches of the military even, other branches of the military of other nations that were allied with us. So, when you see a verse like this one: Rev 12:14 And the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, to fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.
You now know what the function of the wilderness is, it is the place where we go to get trained in the Word. H4057 = midbar – comes from H1696 = dabar = teach, talk, rehearse. That is what we do in the military, day in and day out, we rehearse our job so that when an emergency or crisis arises when do not have to stop and think “What do I do now?” we know what we have to do and do it. Other people can freeze up and die from fear or uncertainty but we don’t, we do our job as we have rehearsed, day in and day out, because others are depending on us to do it.
We are in YHVH’s Army now. We have a job and we rehearse it, day in and day out, we know what to do in a crisis and do it because others depend on us doing our job. We dress different from the others, we have a totally different vocabulary from the rest of the world and we can recognize others like us by what they wear and how they speak, even though they do not look exactly like us we can tell they are allied forces in the battle against the enemy. There is a great deal of Freedom in this Torah, freedom others do not know or experience and when the enemy attacks, they run, hide, or just fall apart because they have not been properly trained and skilled in the Word. They have no discipline in the Torah and become fearful.
Verse 2 – YHVH promises that He will go with us because he will send His Messenger to go before us and to do all the heavy work of defeating the enemy all we have to do is follow His Messenger. His Messenger has His Name upon Him: Joh_5:43 “I have come in My Father’s Name and you do not receive Me, if another comes in his own name, him you would receive.
Joh_10:25 יהושע answered them, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s Name, they bear witness concerning Me.
Yeshua is our Father’s Messenger. He showed us the Way. We are to follow His example: 1Pe 2:21 For to this you were called, because Messiah also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps,
Verse 3-5 – Our destination is a better place than where we are now but we are a rebellious and stiff-necked people. We easily get bogged down in the worries of world. The Children of Yisra’el were quickly lead astray by the ornaments of this world and fashioned their own god from the ornaments of the ear. Was it a coincidence that the earrings were used to fashion a god to their own liking? No! The world fashions a gospel according to the things that it likes to hear and is quickly leas astray: 2Ti 4:3 For there shall be a time when they shall not bear sound teaching, but according to their own desires, they shall heap up for themselves teachers tickling the ear,
2Ti 4:4 and they shall indeed turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths.
Isa 30:9 that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who refuse to hear the Torah of יהוה,
Isa 30:10 who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right. Speak to us what is smooth, prophesy deceits.
Jer 5:31 The prophets have prophesied falsely, and the priests rule by their own hand, and My people have loved it so. And what are you going to do at the end of it?
Rom 16:17 Now I call upon you, brothers, watch out for those who cause divisions and stumbling, contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.
Rom 16:18 For such ones do not serve our Master יהושע Messiah, but their own stomach, and by smooth words and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the innocent.
We have to take off the ornaments of this world because they are a trap: Heb_12:1 We too, then, having so great a cloud of witnesses all around us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race set before us,
Look at the word for weight in Greek: G3591 – ὄγκος – ogkos ongkos – Thayer Definition: 1) whatever is prominent, protuberance, bulk, mass (tumor).
The word for weight means a bulging mass, tumor, and the Greek word used here is the root word for oncology – the study of cancer, a disease that consumes the human body. If we allow the weight of this world to focus our attention on the cares of the world it will consume us.
Ornaments = H5716 = trappings (of horses), specifically a headstall, ornaments. Look at this closely. What are the trappings of horses? Bridle, reins, blinders, etc. things that control the movement of the horses neck and therefore the horses vision. The same with a headstall. The horse or cow cannot move its neck and therefore it is not see but one thing. It is stiff-necked. If we keep our eyes on the trappings of this world we cannot see the blessings that YHVH has given us.
Verses 6-10 – Mosheh had to move his tent outside of camp because the sin of the people had defiled the camp and YHVH could not remain there. YHVH took His name outside the camp of the people. There was no Tabernacle built yet so, there was no wall to keep sin out. There was no Torah in the camp and in order to defend against sin the men would have to look to Mosheh (Torah) to guard his household from sin. The column of cloud was their proof that YHVH was there. The more skilled they grew the more Torah the saw and watched and kept, slowly the Tabernacle was built and the Name of YHVH was found in the midst of the camp. It took time, work and discipline just like being in the military.
Verses 11-23 – I am addressing the rest of the chapter as one group of Scriptures that must be read in context together in order to understand the fullness of what is being said by both Mosheh and YHVH. First, verse 11 says that YHVH spoke to Mosheh “face to face”. But, in verse 20 we see that no man may see the face of YHVH or they will die. So, what is it that Mosheh is asking?
Verse 11 makes it plain that YHVH spoke to Mosheh face to face, like a man would speak to his friend, but we also see that Mosheh is not seeking to see His Face but rather His Esteem. Time for a word study:
H6440 – פּנה / פּנים – pânı̂ym / pâneh – BDB Definition: 1) face ((There are many definitions for this word but I will give this one to simplify what is being said.)) Face to face = paniym el paniym.
Verse 14 My Presence = H6440 – paniym – presence
Verse 18 – Your Esteem – H3519 – כָּבֹד כָּבוֹד – kâbôd kâbôd – kaw-bode’, kaw-bode’ – splendor, glory
The proof of YHVH’s presence is the column of cloud and fire. It is in the column where the Messenger is found that is proof of YHVH’s Presence. Another meaning for paniym is – 1c) face (of seraphim or cherubim). You see how things are starting to add up?
- Rock – hatsur (tsur is the root word) – rock
- Place – maqom – H4725 – standing place, place, station
- Esteem – kabode – H3519 – honor, glory, abundance
Now, look at the words of Yeshua: Joh 14:9 יהושע said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father, and how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’”
Joh 14:10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak from Myself. But the Father who stays in Me does His works.
Joh 14:11 “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, otherwise believe Me because of the works themselves.
Why the definitions? Watch: r f y e
e Behold, revelation
y man on his side, lay down one’s life
f tent peg, secure
r man’s head, leader, beginning
Behold, the One who laid down His Life secured us to our head(YHVH)
Kabode: d f b k
k palm, hollow of hand, covering of the hand
b tent floor plan, house
f tent peg, secure
d tent flap, tent door, move back and forth, entrance
In the covering(hollow) of His hand the House is secured and we can enter in.
Isa 40:9 You who bring good news to Tsiyon, get up into the high mountain. You who bring good news to Yerushalayim, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid. Say to the cities of Yehuḏah, “See your Elohim!”
Isa 40:10 See, the Master יהוה comes with strength, and His arm rules for Him. See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.
Isa 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come! And the esteem of יהוה has risen upon you.
Isa 60:2 “For look, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness the peoples. But יהוה arises over you, and His esteem is seen upon you.
Isa 60:3 “And the nations shall come to your light, and sovereigns to the brightness of your rising.
Mosheh knew he was talking face to face with YHVH’s Messenger(Shem. 23:20-21) but he wanted to see or experience the fullness of YHVH’s Esteem, Presence. YHVH told him that it was only possible if He covered Mosheh with His (Right)Hand(Yeshua). Therefore, in order to see the fullness of YHVH Mosheh had to stand on a Rock (Yeshua) and be covered with His (Right) Hand.
Psa_18:2 יהוה is my rock and my stronghold and my deliverer; My Ěl is my rock, I take refuge in Him; My shield and the horn of my deliverance, my high tower.
Psa_31:2 Incline Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be a rock of refuge to me, A house of defence to save me.
Psa_62:7 My deliverance and my esteem depend on Elohim; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in Elohim.
Psa_94:22 But יהוה is my defence, And my Elohim the rock of my refuge,
1Jn 3:1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of Elohim! For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
1Jn 3:2 Beloved ones, now we are children of Elohim. And it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Remember, this comes from Yeshua’s beloved apostle.
Psa 24:8 Who is this Sovereign of esteem? יהוה strong and mighty, יהוה mighty in battle.
Psa 24:9 Lift up your heads, O you gates! Even lift up, you everlasting doors! And let the Sovereign of esteem come in.
Psa 24:10 Who is this Sovereign of esteem? יהוה of hosts, He is the Sovereign of esteem! Selah.
1Ti 3:16 And, beyond all question, the secret of reverence is great – who was revealed in the flesh, declared right in Spirit, was seen by messengers, was proclaimed among nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in esteem.
