Verse 1 – The first thing we must look at is the role of Mosheh: Mat_8:4 And יהושע said to him, “See, mention it to no one. But go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Mosheh commanded, as a witness to them.”
Mat_19:7 They said to Him, “Why then did Mosheh command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
Mat_22:24 saying, “Teacher, Mosheh said that if anyone should die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise offspring for his brother.
Mat_23:2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on the seat of Mosheh.
Act_15:21 “For from ancient generations Mosheh has, in every city, those proclaiming him – being read in the congregations every Sabbath.”
Rom_10:19 But I ask, Did Yisra’ěl not know? First Mosheh says, “I shall provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I shall enrage you by an unwise nation.”
What is really being said here in the opening of verse 1? “The Torah had been gone too long and the people wanted to worship someone so, they decided to make their own gods.” Yeshua taught about this very thing: Mat 24:45 “Who then is a trustworthy and wise servant, whom his master set over his household, to give them food in season?
Mat 24:46 “Blessed is that servant whom his master, having come, shall find so doing.
Mat 24:47 “Truly, I say to you that he shall set him over all his possessions.
Mat 24:48 “But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’
Mat 24:49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
Mat 24:50 the master of that servant shall come on a day when he does not expect it, and at an hour he does not know,
Mat 24:51 and shall cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites – there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Next, look at the disdain in voice when they refer to Mosheh, as “this Mosheh”. You can almost hear them follow it with, “Why who does he think he is. I had a good job back in Egypt before the pandemic, uh, plagues hit.?” “He brought us out into the desert and then left us.”
Is there anyone today wanting worship “other” gods? Deu_12:30 guard yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire about their mighty ones, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their mighty ones? And let me do so too.’
Deu 18:9 “When you come into the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, do not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.
Jer 10:2 Thus said יהוה, “Do not learn the way of the nations,a and do not be awed by the signs of the heavens, for the nations are awed by them.
Jer 10:3 “For the laws of these peoples are worthless, for one cuts a tree from the forest, work for the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
Jer 10:4 “They beautify it with silver and gold, they strengthen it with nails and hammers so that it does not topple.
Eze 20:32 “And what comes up in your spirit shall never be, when you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the tribes in other lands, serving wood and stone.’
Eph 4:17 So this I say, and witness in the Master, that you should no longer walk as the nations walk, in the futility of their mind,
Eph 4:18 having been darkened in their understanding, having been estranged from the life of Elohim, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,
Eph 4:19 who, having become callous, have given themselves up to indecency, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Isn’t this pretty much what is said in churches today? “we do not know what has become of him.”
What I have heard so many times is: “We don’t need the Pentateuch because we are New Testament Christians.” Mosheh has been gone too long from today’ churches.
Verse 2-3 – Aharon could have said and done a lot of things at this point in time and, to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was stalling for time when he said, “Take off the golden earrings.” Maybe he was thinking, “Well, Bubba’s been gone over a month, he could arrive at any time. If I stall long enough maybe, just maybe, he’ll show up and know what to do.” Why did everyone have earrings?
Gold represents purity and the everlasting esteem of Elohim, but the Children of Yisra’el was about to use that symbol of purity and esteem for an evil purpose: Eze 16:11 “And I adorned you with ornaments, and I put bracelets on your wrists, and a chain on your neck.
Eze 16:12 “And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a crown of adorning on your head.
Eze 16:13 “Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, and honey, and oil. And you were exceedingly beautiful, and became fit for royalty.
Eze 16:14 “And your name went out among the nations because of your loveliness, for it was perfect, by My splendour which I had put on you,” declares the Master יהוה.
Eze 16:15 “But you trusted in your own loveliness, and whored because of your name, and poured out your whorings on everyone passing by who would have it.
Eze 16:16 “And you took some of your garments and made multi-coloured high places for yourself, and whored on them – which should not have come about, nor shall it be.
Eze 16:17 “And you took your splendid adornments, of My gold and My silver that I gave you, and made for yourself images of a male and whored with them.
Verse 4 – Regardless of Aharon’s motivation he is in full control of his faculties. He takes an engraving tool and moulds a calf. It does not say that it was solid gold but I believe it was. Go back to chapter 31 starting in verse 1 we see that it was Betsal’el who was supposed to do the engraving, not Aharon. Once he had completed the golden calf he announces, “This is you mighty one, O Yisra’el”. Until I learned pictographic Hebrew I never could understand how the Children of Yisra’el could be duped into worshipping a calf. Look at the first letter of Elohim – an aleph – . It is a bull’s head. Look at the symbol below. That is the symbol for the age of Taurus which lasted from 4400BCE to 1875BCE. The Children of Yisra’el were leaving Egypt and the Egyptians were master astronomers of their day. The end of the Age of Taurus almost perfectly corresponds to the Exodus from Mitsrayim.
The symbol for the Age of Aries was the ram. And, to answer the question why there are qahals that want to use the equinox to time the Abib here is a quote: It is the age defined by the Sun being in the constellation of Aries on the spring equinox. The Children of Yisra’el were taken out of Mitsrayim to get them out of a pagan worship system and there are those today who are still trying to impose a pagan worship system on the Children of Yisra’el. With Mosheh being raised in the house of Pharaoh and probably had the best education of his day by Egyptian wise men he would have known this.
Please, please, please understand that the signs in the heavens were created for a specific purpose: Gen 1:14 And Elohim said, “Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and appointed times, and for days and years,
Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth.” And it came to be so.
Hasatan has used YHVH’s Creation to get people to worship the Creation rather than the Creator. The calendar in the sky is supposed to draw us nearer to the Creator, YHVH, El Shaddai. And Yah warns us how easy it is to be deceived: Deu 17:2 “When there is found in your midst, in any of your cities which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, a man or a woman who does what is evil in the eyes of יהוה your Elohim, in transgressing His covenant,
Deu 17:3 and has gone and served other mighty ones and bowed down to them, or to the sun or to the moon or to any of the host of the heavens, which I have not commanded,
Deu 17:4 and it has been made known to you and you have heard, and have searched diligently. Then see, if true: the matter is confirmed that such an abomination has been done in Yisra’ěl,
Deu 17:5 then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil matter, and you shall stone to death that man or woman with stones.
Unfortunately, today these people are called Spiritual Life Guides, Mystics or, just plain astrologers but, they are an abomination to YHVH because it is using His Perfect Creation to plan a person’s life or destiny rather than worshipping the Creator and following His Way.
Verse 5 – Aharon finishes his abomination and, I think proudly, declares to Yisra’el, “Tomorrow is a festival to YHVH.” Was this declaration accurate?
Verse 6 – This informs us that instead of a solemn occasion of rejoicing for their deliverance that is was a time of drinking and playing.
Verse 7 – This verse seems a little odd when YHVH says: “For your people whom you brought out of the land of Mitsrayim”. Was YHVH passing the buck?
Verses 8-14 – This to me is the period of transformation of Mosheh as a leader. YHVH is angry with what the Children of Yisra’el have said and done and is now ready to destroy them. But Mosheh, accepting the mantle of responsibility that has been thrus upon him is quick to point out to YHVH: יהוה, why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with a strong hand?
Mosheh uses the covenant sworn by YHVH to Abraham, Yitshaq and Ya’aqob as the was to assuage YHVH’s anger. Not only this but, Mosheh points out the injury that would befall the Name of YHVH if He destroyed the Children of Yisra’el.
What does Yeshua do for His People? He makes intercession for the sin of His People so that they will not be destroyed in the Second Death. What did Mosheh (Torah) do? Made intercession for the Children of Yisra’el so that they would not be destroyed.
Verse 15-16 – This is a very important verse in that it describes the tablets given to Mosheh. The one point that we must carry from this verse throughout the rest of Scripture is that the tablets were written on both sides. We will see this description used throughout Scripture even to the very end of Revelation.
Verses 17-18 – Yehoshua, who accompanied Mosheh hears the noise coming from the encampment below the mountain and is afraid it is the noise of battle basically tels him it is the sound of partying. Going back to Chapter 24 Aharon and Hur were given charge over the people to rightly rule over the people but when Mosheh returned from the mountain they were all partying. Remember this: Luk 18:8 “I say to you that He shall do right to them speedily. But when the Son of Aḏam comes, shall He find the belief on the earth?”
Is it a coincidence that Mosheh (Torah) and his assistant, named Yehoshua, came back and found that the Children of Yisra’el had fallen into a drunken party rather than remaining set-apart and in prayer?
Verse 19 – Mosheh breaks to the tablets of stone. The Children of Yisra’el had broken their Marriage Covenant that they promised to follow: Exo 24:7 And he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that יהוה has spoken we shall do, and obey.”
Verse 20 – Mosheh takes the golden calf and grinds it into powder and then spreads it out over the water that had been given to them to drink from the rock. Now, instead of drinking pure water that came from the Rock they would have to drink the cup of wrath from the same Rock: Rev 14:9 And a third messenger followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark upon his forehead or upon his hand,
Rev 14:10 he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of Elohim, which is poured out undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he shall be tortured with fire and sulphur before the set-apart messengers and before the Lamb.
But there is much more to it than just this. The bitter water has another purpose: Num 5:20 “But if you have turned aside under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you” –
Num 5:21 then the priest shall make the woman swear with the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman – “יהוה make you a curse and an oath among your people, when יהוה makes your thigh waste away and your belly swell,
Num 5:22 and this water that causes the curse shall go into your inward parts, and make your belly swell and your thigh waste away.” And the woman shall say, “Aměn, aměn.”
Num 5:23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and shall wipe them off into the bitter water,
Num 5:24 and shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter.
Num 5:2 And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before יהוה, and bring it to the slaughter-place.
Num 5:26 And the priest shall take a hand filled with the offering, as its remembrance offering, and burn it on the slaughter-place, and afterward make the woman drink the water.
Num 5:27 And when he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and has committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that brings the curse shall enter her and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall waste away, and the woman shall become a curse among her people.
Num 5:28 But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be clear and shall conceive children.
Num 5:29 This is the Torah of jealousy, when a wife turns aside under her husband’s authority and defiles herself,
Yisra’el is the Bride and YHVH is the Groom and the Bride turned away from her Husband’s authority and chased after another god: Exo 20:3 “You have no other mighty ones against My face.
Exo 20:4 “You do not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of that which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth,
Exo 20:5 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Verses 21-25 – Uh oh moment. Aharon got caught. And comes up with the weakest of excuses ever known to man, in my opinion: Exo 32:24 “And I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let them take it off.’ And they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
Notice, Mosheh gave him an out: “What did this people do to you”
He could have said “They beat me up, they threatened my family, They tortured me”
Verse 25 also gives us a little more depth or insight into what had happened when it says, “the people were let loose.” Let loose = H6544 – para – bare, naked. In other words this had turned into and orgy.
Verse 26 – This is a goosebump verse of Scripture. Just reading it I had goosebumps as it sank deeper into my spirit: “Who is for יהוה? Come to me.” Will the Real Remnant please stand up! Mosheh is saying whoever is for YHVH come to Torah. It is decision time. If you are going to follow YHVH’s Ways you must follow Torah. There are no If’s, And’s or But’s just follow Torah.
Verses 27-28 – The sons of Levi stood with Mosheh, put on their swords and killed those that would not repent of the evil they had done and there were 3,000 people killed. But this is not the end of the story: Act 2:41 Then those, indeed, who gladly received his word, were immersed. And on that day about three thousand beings were added to them.
Verse 29 – Ordination by trial: Luk_14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and his own life too, he is unable to be My taught one.
Verses 30-35 – We see in this exchange between Mosheh and YHVH that Moshehhas willingly embraced his mantle of responsibility and tries to make atonement for the sin of the Children of Yisra’el by asking YHVH to blot his name out of His Book but, YHVH informs him that He will blot out those names of those who have sinned against Him: Deu_29:20 “יהוה would not forgive him, but rather, the displeasure of יהוה and His jealousy shall burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book shall settle on him, and יהוה shall blot out his name from under the heavens.
Psa 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And not be written with the righteous.
Rev_3:5 “He who overcomes shall be dressed in white robes, and I shall by no means blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I shall confess his name before My Father and before His messengers.
The sin has not changed and neither has the punishment.
