Shemoth (Exodus) 31

Lesson date: 2/8/5856AA

Verses 1-6 – Think about how many times we have read verse 1 and never thought to look up the names of each person. The phrase, “See, I have called by name,” is trying to get us to  focus our attention on their names. It is almost as if YHVH is saying, “I will give you a clue…”

  • H1212 – בּצלאל – betsal’êl – BDB Definition: Betz-al-el = “in the shadow (i.e. protection) of El”
  • H221 – אוּרי – ‘ûrı̂y – BDB Definition: Uri = “fiery”
  • H2354 – חוּר – chûr – BDB Definition: Hur = absolutely white linen
  • H3063 – יְהוּדָה – yehûdâh – yeh-hoo-daw’ – From H3034; celebrated; praised

Now put it together: He is In the Protection of El, the fiery one, in absolutely white linen, is to be praised.

What is the first verse of Scripture that comes to mind after reading the meaning of these names? Please record the ones you thought of so we can talk about them and why they were the first to come to your mind. For me it was – Matthew 17:2; Mark 9:4; Luke 9:29.

In these men’s names we have been given a clue as to the appearance of the Messiah. Remember this description: Rev 1:13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Aḏam, dressed in a robe down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.

Rev 1:14 And His head and hair were white as white wool, as snow, and His eyes as a flame of fire,

Rev 1:15 and His feet like burnished brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters.

Or, what about this one: Rev 10:1 And I saw another strong messenger coming down from the heaven, robed in a cloud, and a rainbow on his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like columns of fire,

Did Yah just show us the beginning from the end or the end from the beginning? Isa 46:9 “Remember the former events of old, for I am Ěl, and there is no one else – Elohim, and there is no one like Me,

Isa 46:10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from of old that which has not yet been done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand, and all My delight I do,’

  • H171 – אָהֳלִיאָב – ‘ohŏlı̂y’âb – o”-hol-e-awb’ – From H168 and H1; (in) tent of (his) father; Oholiab,
  • H294 – אֲחִיסָמָךְ – ‘ăchı̂ysâmâk – akh-ee-saw-mawk’ – From H251 and H5564; brother of support;
  • H1835 – דָּן – dân – dawn – From H1777; judge;

In the Tent of His Father, my brother of support, is the Judge. For me it was John 5:30 and Romans 8:29.

Next trick question, what Scriptures came to mind? Please record them so we can discuss them.

Now, put the two men’s names together: Betsa’el and Oholiab. In the Protection of El; In His Father’s Tent.

YHVH then tells Mosheh, “I have filled him with the Spirit of Elohim.” Betsal’el was filled with the Spirit from on High: Jas 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first clean, then peaceable, gentle, ready to obey, filled with compassion and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

We have a man who is in the protection of El will now be filled with the Spirit from on High. That this remind you of something said by Yeshua?

Look at the phrase in Verse 6:  And I have put wisdom in the hearts of everyone who is wise-hearted,

Does this sound fair? We have to be already seeking Him in order to be filled with His Spirit of Wisdom. Pro 24:3 By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; Pro 24:4 And by knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

H2451 – חָכְמָה – chokmâh – khok-maw’ – From H2449; wisdom

Jas 1:5  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of Elohim, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

H8394 – תּוֹבֻנָה – תְּבוּנָה – תָּבוּן  – tâbûn  tebûnâh  tôbûnâh – taw-boon’, teb-oo-naw’, to-boo-naw’ – from H995; intelligence; understanding

Psa 119:34 Make me understand, that I might observe Your Torah, And guard it with all my heart.

Psa 119:104 From Your orders I get understanding; Therefore I have hated every false way.

H1847 – דַּעַת – da‛ath – dah’-ath – From H3045; knowledge: – cunning,

Pro 9:10 The fear of יהוה is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Set-apart One is understanding.

Verses 7-11 – Now, look what happens in verses 7-11. Remember how we discussed the fact that the description of the tent of Appointment started inside the Most Set-Apart Place and worked outward, except the Slaughter Place of Incense. It was given to us out of sequence to focus our attention on it proper place. But now it is in its proper place.

Verses 12-17 – The Sabbath. Isn’t it interesting that in the discussion of wisdom, knowledge and understanding we see the connection made to the Sabbath. When you read verse 13 His Sabbaths are a sign. In Scriptures we see the words sign, mark, seal, token used in reference to the Sabbaths. Quick! Let’s check your vision: Eze 20:20 And set apart My Sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, to know that I am יהוה your Elohim.’

Eze 20:12 “And I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a signa between them and Me, to know that I am יהוה who sets them apart.

Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath-keeping for the people of Elohim.

In the world ruled by the Anti-Messiah it takes wisdom, knowledge and understanding to understand the importance of keeping the Sabbath. Exo_13:16 “And it shall be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand יהוה brought us out of Mitsrayim.”

Deu_6:8 and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

Deu_11:18 And you shall lay up these Words of Mine in your heart and in your being, and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

Num 6:27 “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ěl, and I Myself shall bless them.”

Rev 14:1 And I looked and saw a Lamb standing on Mount Tsiyon, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s Name written upon their foreheads.

Remember math class in school? Yes, I know that it was the hour that you had to talk to the pretty girl next to you but that is not what I am talking about. Here is an oldie but a goody: A=B and B=C so we can logically conclude that A=C. Right?

If the Sabbath is the sign of His Covenant forever and His sign is found on our right hand and forehead and someone changes that and we keep the “new” sabbath we have the sign of that person on our right hand or forehead. We know that the final beast will desire or intend to change the Appointed Times (Daniel 7:25) and he will require his followers to have his mark on the right hand or forehead (Rev. 13:15-16) so, if we reject YHVH’s Sabbaths who is the world serving? Who’s mark do they have?

Matt asked a very good question last Shabbat that I have heard it in my head all week; we have three entities to watch for, the dragon, the beast (actually there are two beast) and the false prophet, which of these are personified by Jesus Christ? Matt correct me if I am wrong about the question.

  • Dragon (Revelation 12)
  • Beast No. 1 (Revelation 13)
  • Beast No. 2 (Revelation 13)
  • Image of the Beast (Revelation 13)
  • False Prophet (Revelation 16)

Verse 18 – Two tablets of stone. Is this an accurate depiction? Why or why not?
