Lesson date: 12/26/5855AA
Verses 1-2 – YHVH instructs Mosheh to have the Children of Yisra’el to give Him a voluntary gift – terumah – H8641 – a contribution, gift, set as special special. Who is responsible for giving the gift? Everyone whose heart – leb -H3820** – heart, inner man, mind, will – moves- Nadab – H5068 generous, willingness, desire, eagerness and also the Name of Aharon’s sons who died for offering profane fire. In this case we see that the man did not live up to the measure of his name. The idea of the contribution is above and beyond what is required in giving the tithe.
((**Debarim 8:2; 10:12-13; 11:18; 30:14: Teh. 119:11: Col. 3:16-17: Eze. 3:10-11))
Verses 3-7 – ((Components of the Contribution))
1 – Gold – zahab – H2096 – gold or golden color, also means brilliance, splendor, shimmer, shine and it denotes royalty or the eternal nature (and esteem) of YHVH. (One of the colors of my tzitzit.)
2 – Silver – Keseph – H3701 – represents the price of redemption and also the foundation of real money and a talent of it was kept as a true measure of value. Silver was used in the administration of the Set-Apart Place because it represents the redeeming nature of YHVH Who redeemed us from Mizrayim.
3 – Bronze – Nehosheth – H5178 – speaks of YHVH’s Judgement and Punishment (88% copper an 12% tin. Copper is essential to all living organisms as a trace dietary mineral.) Bronze has a higher melting point than brass and can withstand the heat ((of judgment)) better than brass and is used in the manufacture of the altar/slaughter place.
4 – Blue material – Tekeleth – H8504 – the cerulean mussel comes from Shekeleth – H7827 – which means to crack or peel the shell of the mussel. The shell of the cerulean mussel was used to make colors from red to purple. Blue thread was a necessary component of the tzitzit (Bem. 15:38-40).
5 – Purple material – Argaman – H713 – Purple is achieved by the proper mixture of blue (heavens) and scarlet (blood) signifying that Yeshua was worthy to be called King of Kings because He came from Heaven and paid the price in blood.
((Important Note: You will see the enemies of YHVH wearing purple to denote Royalty as in royal raiment of kings and also Papal and cleric robes but you will not see the Pope wearing blue. He may hold something blue for a short period of time or touch something blue momentarily but he does not wear blue.))
6 – Scarlet material – To’alath – H8439 and Shaniy – H8144 – These two words make up the idea of scarlet. To’alath = worm and Shaniy for crimson or scarlet. The color is made from a worm – in the Coccidae (Scale insect) family, coccus ilicis. When the female of this species is ready to lay eggs she attaches herself firmly to the outer bark of a tree and lays her eggs underneath her body and then covers them with a sac of red juice, which is her insides and then dies and forms a protective shell over the eggs to keep them safe. It is the dead body that is then collected and crushed to make the dye component for scarlet. Ring a bell? (Eph. 5:2)
7 – Fine linen – Shesh or shaysh – H8336 – the linen used by the high priest in his undergarments. The word literally means bleached stuff and we see it used often in Scripture because it is often the clothes worn in a wedding ceremony. ((Matt. 17:1-2; Mar. 9:2-3; Luke 9:28-29))
8 – Goat’s hair – H5795 – Aze – she goat or young goat of either sex. The word aze not only refers to the she goat herself but also the hair of the she goat being finer than the hair of the mature male goat.
9 – Ram’s skins dyed red – The grown male goat or ram is the head of the flock. The ram is also looked upon in Hebrew culture as a substitute in performing a sacrifice. This is from the tale of the sacrifice of Yitshaq who about to be slaughtered and YHVH provided a substitute in the form of a ram. This will become the covering of the Set-Apart Place and when viewed from above the color of blood will be seen.
10 – Fine leather – H8476 – Tahash – fine leather – many believe that this is referring to a badger’s sking, some belief a porpoise, dolphin or whale skin. The outer covering, the one that went over the rams’ skin dyed red had to be strong and durable but it was smooth and was not very pretty. ((Isa.53:1-2))
11 – Acacia wood – H7848 – Shittim – The acacia wood is taken fro the meaning of thorns (used in scourging) Mat 27:28-30; Mar. 15:17-18; Joh. 19:2-5) Acacia wood is very similar to our mesquite wood in that it is very tough and durable.
12 – Oil for the Light – H8081 – Shemen & H3974 – Maor or Maorah – The oil for the light was the first pressing of the olive and had the most fat in the oil of subsequent pressings. It gave a brighter light. What does the oil represent? What does the Light represent?
13 – Spices for the anointing oil/incense((Shemoth 30:31-38))
- Fragrant gum
- Cinnamon
- Galbanum
- Clear Frankincense
14 – Shoham stones – H7718 – Shoham – It has often been called onyx but after much research I now believe that it is not onyx but rather lapis lazuli, a very beautiful blue/green color.
15 – and stones – H68 – Eben – stones – This word was a bit of a puzzle for me. It does not specify the stones to be used. Why not? ((1 Pet. 2:4-5) Eben comes from H1129 – Banah – to build up, but then H1121 – Ben – means son, grandson, child, children (implying) the one who builds up a house. We did not need to know which stones at this point just that the Chief Cornerstone would build up His Father’s House. ((Jn. 1:51)
Verse 8 – a set-apart dwelling – miqdash – H4720 – a consecrated thing or place, a sanctuary, hallowed place. From the root word H6942 – Qadash – set-apart consecrated, dedicated.
Verse 9 – Do all according … pattern – Tabniyth – H8403 – figure, form, likeness, similitude. Mosheh was shown the original while he was on the mountain and he was to follow that pattern to make the substitute or copy.
Verses 10-22 – Ark of the Covenant
Yes, I cheated but one picture is worth a thousand words so here are two thousand words worth. Of the two pictures I believe that the second is closer to the actual design but perhaps we will never know, not in this life.
You have probably heard me say this before but it bears repeating. I know I said it at Mrs. McCormick’s one year at Passover: The earth is at the heart of the Universe; Yisra’ĕl is at the heart of the earth; Yerushalayim is at the heart of Yisra’ĕl; The Temple was at the heart of Yerushalayim; The Ark is at the heart of the Temple; The Commands are in the heart of the Ark; The Sabbath is at the heart of the Commands – the heart of the matter is simply this: יהוה has provided a perfect plan for us to once again be at rest with Him as we guard His Sabbath and Commands in our hearts, that He may dwell with us continually in our midst!
Do you see the beautiful picture of Creation in the Ark? Four rings on the four corners with 2 poles, North and South?
Isa 11:12 And He shall raise a banner for the nations, and gather the outcasts of Yisra’ěl, and assemble the dispersed of Yehuḏah from the four corners of the earth.
Mar 13:27 “And then He shall send His messengers, and assemble His chosen ones from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.
Zec 2:6 “Oh, Oh! And flee from the land of the north,” declares יהוה, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of the heavens,” declares יהוה.
Rev_7:1 And after this I saw four messengers standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
Notice the name of the lid in verse 17.
Verse 23-30 – Table of Show Bread
Verse 31-39 Lamp stand – Menorah – H4501 – It is important to remember that the true Lampstand has 7 branches, not nine in modern menorahs. Also, it is important to remember that the menorah is the pattern used to decipher the Book of Revelation. Another thing that is unique and, had I not read in the Word I would not have believed it, that it is constructed from a single 75.6 pound block of gold. To me, that is beyond comprehension that a human being could fashion such an article. How did he do it? Shem. 31:1-4.
Lamp stands are very important in the study of prophecy. We see it in the Tanakh and also the B’rit Hadasha. Zec 4:2 And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I said, “I have looked, and see: a lampstand all of gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven spouts to the seven lamps.
Zec 4:3 “And two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.”
Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice which spoke with me. And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands,
Rev 1:13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Aḏam, dressed in a robe down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.
Rev 1:20 “The secret of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are messengers of the seven assemblies, and the seven lampstands which you saw are seven assemblies.
Rev 2:5 “So remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works, or else I shall come to you speedily and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees Eze_4:3 and the two lampstands that are standing before the Elohim of the earth.
