Shemoth (Exodus) 20 — The 10 Words of Our Bridegroom

Lesson date: 11/20/5855AA

Verse 1 – I will probably delve further into verse 1 than I should but it is so pivotal for everything that comes after it. “And Elohim spoke” this is not an empty statement. It does not say that Mosheh spoke or anyone else spoke but Elohim spoke. Now let’s look at the verb for “spoke”: H1696 – דָּבַר – dâbar – daw-bar’ – A primitive root; perhaps properly to arrange; but used figuratively (of words) to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue: – answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use [entreaties], utter, X well, X work.

And now notice the similarity between the two words spoke and word: H1697 – דָּבָר – dâbâr – daw-bawr’ From H1696; a word; by implication a matter (as spoken of) of thing; adverbially a cause: – act, advice, affair, answer, X any such (thing), + because of, book, business, care, case, cause, certain rate, + chronicles, commandment, X commune (-ication), word ((It has numerous meanings and the meanings are arranged alphabetically so I cut it short.))

The word actually used here is “debarim” the plural form meaning words. Interestingly the word used after spoke is (אֵת) H853. We have also discussed the relationship between the word “dabar” and “midbar” for wilderness.

Verses 2-3 – Word 1 – This is a qualifying statement i.e. I Am the party of the First Part who has already performed My part which was to take you out of slavery to Mitsrayim.” It is His legal authority for forming this contract and the precursor to everything that follows. Look at the word that is translated for “brought”: yatsa – H3318 – יָצָא – yâtsâ. “Yatsa” can mean brought but it means so much more in Hebrew. It comes with the idea of “You were condemned to slavery and I plucked you out of” or “I issued a commandment for your slavery and plucked you out like I would pluck a grape from a vine”. It heightens the condition of the Children of Yisra’el and trivializes their redemption. I like to read it this way: “Because I am YHVH you Elohim…” Look what David said: Psa 81:10 “I am יהוה your Elohim, Who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim; Open your mouth wide, and I fill it.

Perhaps it was this verse from David that Yeshua was thinking about when He uttered: Mat 10:19 “But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it shall be given to you in that hour what you shall speak,

Mat 10:20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.

Now, this is where I personalize the Scripture, “Because I Am YHVH your Elohim, Who plucked you out of slavery in Mitsrayim, Daryl, you will not have any other gods in front of My Face.” I personalize it so that I can see how I have failed to keep His Commands.

This is where modern Christian theology breaks down: monotheism noun – mono·the·ismˈmä-nə-(ˌ)thē-ˌi-zəm\ Definition of monotheism: the doctrine or belief that there is but one God historically related forms of monotheism as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam ((taken from the Webster dictionary))

Doe you see how wrong it is? It goes against the very first Word or Commandment. There are others gods but we are not supposed to worship any other god or mighty one or hero but YHVH our Elohim. Scripture teaches us that there are many other gods, mighty ones or heroes but we are to worship none other than YHVH our Elohim: 1Co 8:5 For even if there are so-called mighty ones, whether in heaven or on earth – as there are many mighty ones and many masters –

1Co 8:6 for us there is one Elohim,a the Father, from whom all came and for whom we live, and one Master יהושע Messiah, through whom all came and through whom we live.

Psa 82:1 Elohim stands in the congregation of Ěl; He judges in the midst of the elohim.

Psa 82:2 How long would you judge perversely, And show partiality to the wrong? Selah.

Psa 82:3 Give right-ruling to the poor and fatherless, Do right to the afflicted and needy.

Psa 82:4 Rescue the poor and needy; Deliver them from the hand of the wrong.

Psa 82:5 They do not know, nor do they understand, They walk about in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

Psa 82:6 I, I said, “You are elohim, And all of you are sons of the Most High.

Psa 82:7 “But as men you die, And fall as one of the heads.”

Psa 82:8 Arise, O Elohim, judge the earth, For You shall possess all the nations.

I will raise my hand before I ask the question, what was your other gods’ name(s)? His name was Career and he demanded that I put him first so that I could get ahead and be successful because this was the American way. I also worshiped a god called America and America demanded that I pledge allegiance as often as possible with my hand over my heart. I had a hero named John Wayne and I could quote entire scripts from his movies. I also had another god by the name of Jesus who saved me and I, oops, I am getting ahead of my self. Let’s go to the second Word.

Verses 4-6 –  Basically, this one says do not make images that represent your other god(s) and bow down to them, you know, like a cross. Yes, I have bowed down to the cross and raised many prayers before it. Why? Because it was a symbol of my other god, Jesus. Jesus was the god of love and did away with all the difficult parts of the Bible, basically Genesis through Malachi and all I had to do was love “GOD” with all my heart and being and treat other people like I wanted to be treated. Here is how Hasatan works: I could justify bowing down before the cross and praying because I was better than the Catholics because I took Jesus off the cross so, I was better than them. DECEPTION. It was still an image of wood or stone or metal, made by human hands to represent someone other than YHVH my Elohim who took me out of slavery.

Psa_106:21 They forgot Ěl their Saviour, The Doer of great deeds in Mitsrayim,

Isa_43:3 “For I am יהוה your Elohim, the Set-apart One of Yisra’ěl, your Saviour; I gave Mitsrayim for your ransom, Kush and Seḇa in your place.

Isa_43:11 “I, I am יהוה, and besides Me there is no saviour.

Hasatan had me convinced that Jesus was my saviour and that only Jesus was worthy of worship, even though I called myself a New Testament Christian I ignored what it really said. I justified my worship of Jesus because I was willfully ignorant: 1Ti_1:1 Sha’ul, an emissary ofיהוש Messiah, according to a command of Elohim our Saviour, and of the Masterיהושע Messiah, our expectation,

1Ti_2:3 For this is good and acceptable before Elohim our Saviour,

1Ti_4:10 It is for this that we labour and struggle, because we trust in the living Elohim, who is the Saviour of all men, particularly of those who believe.

Tit_1:3 but in its own times has manifested His word through preaching, with which I was entrusted according to the command of Elohim our Saviour,

Tit_2:10 not stealing, but showing all good trustworthiness, so that they adorn the teaching of Elohim our Saviour in every way.

Tit_3:4 But when the kindness and the love of Elohim our Saviour toward man appeared,

Jud_1:25 to the only wise Elohim, our Saviour, be esteem and greatness and might and authority, both now and forever. Amĕn.

Oops! But Sha’ul warned me: 2Th 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,

2Th 2:10 and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order for them to be saved.

2Th 2:11 And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood,

2Th 2:12 in order that all should be judged who did not believe the truth, but have delighted in the unrighteousness.

I didn’t have a love for the truth so, therefore it was easy for me to be deceived

Verse 7 – Word 3 – Once again I raise my hand before I ask the question, who do I worship? God! And Lord! You see, I was one of those who believed that the King James was the ONLY version of the Bible. God fax’ed it down to King James and it and it alone was Scripture. But it brought His Name to naught. It made His Name as though it were nothing. A generic god that can be fit into any situation, just plug in God or Lord whenever, where ever you need it.

Act 17:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Act 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

Act 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

It this is what Sha’ul said I have a feeling that the men of Athens would have fallen down on the ground and rolled around laughing. But it isn’t. This is more like what he said: Act 17:22 And having stood in the midst of the Areopagus Sha’ul said, “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in every matter.

Act 17:23 “For passing through and observing the objects of your worship, I even found a slaughter-place with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN MIGHTY ONE. Not knowing then whom you worship, I make Him known to you:

Act 17:24 “יהוה, who made the world and all that is in it, this One being Master of heaven and earth, does not dwell in dwellings made with hands.

I make Him known to you: YHVH, not God, not Lord. Take a look at the word translated for “naught”: H7723 – שׁו / שׁוא – shâv’ / shav – BDB Definition: 1) emptiness, vanity, falsehood 1a) emptiness, nothingness, vanity 1b) emptiness of speech, lying 1c) worthlessness (of conduct)

Deu 12:32 “All the words I am commanding you, guard to do it – do not add to it nor take away from it.

Oops again!

Verses 8-11 – Word 4 – Remember the Sabbath. Well, at least I kept this one. I went to church twice on Sunday.

Sabbath noun Sab·bath ˈsa-bəth\

Definition of Sabbath

1a:the seventh day of the week observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening as a day of rest and worship by Jews and some Christians

b:Sunday observed among Christians as a day of rest and worship

2:a time of rest

History and Etymology for Sabbath

Middle English sabat, from Anglo-French & Old English, from Latin sabbatum, from Greek sabbaton, from Hebrew shabbāth, literally, rest

((Taken from the Merriam Webster online))

Yeah, but… No buts.

ANGLICAN / EPISCOPAL

Isaac Williams, Plain Sermons on the Catechism, vol. 1, pp. 334, 336:

“And where are we told in the Scriptures that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day . . . The reason we keep the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, not because the Bible, but because the church has enjoined it.”

  1. Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18, 1884:

“I have repeatedly offered $1000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the Holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says, ‘Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy’. The Catholic Church says: ‘NO. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day, and command you to keep holy the first day of the week’. And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church.”

Canon Eyton, The Ten Commandments, pp. 52, 63, 65:

“There is no word, no hint, in the New Testament about abstaining from work on Sunday . . . Into the rest of Sunday no divine law enters . . . The observance of Ash Wednesday or Lent stands exactly on the same footing as the observance of Sunday.”

Bishop Seymour, Why We Keep Sunday:

“We have made the change from the seventh day to the first day, from Saturday to Sunday, on the authority of the one holy Catholic Church.”

Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, a paper read before the New York ministers’ conference, Nov. 13, 1893, reported in New York Examiner, Nov. 16, 1893:

“There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not Sunday. It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week. Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament—absolutely not. To me it seems unaccountable that Jesus, during three years’ intercourse with His disciples, often conversing with them upon the Sabbath question . . . Never alluded to any transference of the day; also, that during forty days of His resurrection life, no such thing was intimated. Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history. . . But what a pity it comes branded with the mark of Paganism, and christened with the name of the sun god, adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism!”

William Owen Carver, The Lord’s Day In Our Day:

“There was never any formal or authoritative change from the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath to the Christian first-day observance.”

Dr. R.W. Dale, The Ten Commandments (New York: Eaton & Mains), p. 127-129:

“It is quite clear that however rigidly or devotedly we may spend Sunday, we are not keeping the Sabbath . . . The Sabbath was founded on a specific Divine command. We can plead no such command for the obligation to observe Sunday . . . There is not a single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty by violating the supposed sanctity of Sunday.”

Timothy Dwight, Theology; Explained and Defended (1823), Ser. 107, vol. 3, p. 258:

The Christian Sabbath [Sunday] is not in the Scriptures, and was not by the primitive Church called the Sabbath.”

DISCIPLES OF CHRIST

Alexander Campbell, The Christian Baptist, Feb. 2, 1824, vol. 1, no. 7, p. 164:

“’But’, say some, ‘it was changed from the seventh to the first day’. Where? When? And by whom? No man can tell. NO; it never was changed, nor could it be, unless creation was to be gone through again; for the reason assigned must be changed before the observance, or respect to the reason, can be changed! It is all old wives’ fables to talk of the change of the Sabbath from the seventh to the first day. If it be changed, it was that august personage changed it who changes times and laws EX OFFICIO– I think his name is DOCTOR ANTICHRIST.”

First Day Observance, pp. 17, 19:

“The first day of the week is commonly called the Sabbath. This is a mistake. The Sabbath of the Bible was the day just proceeding the first day of the week. The first day of the week is never called the Sabbath anywhere in the entire Scriptures. It is also an error to talk about the change of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. There is not in any place in the Bible any intimation of such a change.”

LUTHERAN

The Sunday Problem, a study book of the United Lutheran Church (1923), p. 36:

“We have seen how gradually the impression of the Jewish Sabbath faded from the mind of the Christian Church, and how completely the newer thought underlying the observance of the first day took possession of the church. We have seen that the Christians of the first three centuries never confused one with the other, but for a time celebrated both.”

Augsburg Confession of Faith., art. 28; written by Melanchthon, approved by Martin Luther, 1530; as published in The Book of Concord of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Henry Jacobs, ed. (1911), p. 63:“They [Roman Catholics] refer to the Sabbath Day, as having been changed into the Lord’s Day, contrary to the Decalogue, as it seems. Neither is there any example whereof they make more than concerning the changing of the Sabbath Day. Great, say they, is the power of the Church, since it has dispensed with one of the Ten Commandments!”

Dr. Augustus Neander, The History of the Christian Religion and Church, Henry John Rose, tr. (1843), p. 186:“The festival of Sunday, like all other festivals, was always only a human ordinance, and it was far from the intentions of the apostles to establish a Divine Command in this respect, far from them, and from the early apostolic church, to transfer the laws of the Sabbath to Sunday.”

John Theodore Mueller, Sabbath or Sunday:“But they err in teaching that Sunday has taken the place of the Old Testament Sabbath and therefore must be kept as the seventh day had to be kept by the children of Israel . . . These churches err in their teaching, for Scripture has in no way ordained the first day of the week in place of the Sabbath. There is simply no law in the New Testament to that effect.”

METHODIST

John Wesley, The Works of the Rev. John Wesley, A.M., John Emory, ed. (New York: Eaton & Mains), Sermon 25, vol. 1, p. 221:“But, the Moral Law contained in the Ten Commandments, and enforced by the prophets, he [Christ] did not take away. It was not the design of His coming to revoke any part of this. This is a law which never can be broken . . . Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind, and in all ages; as not depending either on time or place, or any other circumstances liable to change, but on the nature of God and the nature of man, and their unchangeable relation to each other.”

DWIGHT L. MOODY D.L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting, pp. 7, 48:

“The Sabbath was binding in Eden, and it has been in force ever since. This fourth commandment begins with the word ‘remember’, showing that the Sabbath already existed when God wrote the law on the tables of stone at Sinai. How can men claim that this one commandment has been done away with when they will admit that the other nine are still binding?”

PRESBYTERIAN

T.C. Blake, D.D., Theology Condensed, pp. 474:

“The Sabbath is a part of the Decalogue-the Ten Commandments. This alone forever settles the question as to the perpetuity of the institution. Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole Moral Law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand . . . The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath.”

Catholic Catechisms, # 2190:

2190 The sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection of Christ.

Dan 7:25 and it speaks words against the Most High, and it wears out the set-apart ones of the Most High, and it intends to change appointed times and law, and they are given into its hand for a time and times and half a time.

This was my clue to recognize the antichrist, the anti-Messiah and I missed it, over and over and over again. I can honestly say that if I have read Daniel once I have read it a thousand times, and I still missed it. Instead of believing and doing this: Deu 11:18 And you shall lay up these Words of Mine in your heart and in your being, and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

I did this: Rev 13:16 And he causes all, both small and great, and rich and poor, and free and slave, to be given a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads,

106 St. Justin, I Apol. 67: PG 6, 429 and 432.

We all gather on the day of the sun, for it is the first day [after the Jewish sabbath, but also the first day] when God, separating matter from darkness, made the world; and on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead.

108 St. Ignatius of Antioch, Ad Magn. 9, 1: SCh 10, 88.

Those who lived according to the old order of things have come to a new hope, no longer keeping the sabbath, but the Lord’s Day, in which our life is blessed by him and by his death.

109 St. Thomas Aquinas, STh II-II 122, 4.

2176 The celebration of Sunday observes the moral commandment inscribed by nature in the human heart to render to God an outward, visible, public, and regular worship “as a sign of his universal beneficence to all.”

“The Convert’s catechism of Catholic Doctrine” pg. 50, third edition tells us more of where the Sunday Sabbath came from. “We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 364), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.”

Rev 3:14 “And to the messenger of the assembly in Laodikeia write, ‘The Aměn, the Trustworthy and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of Elohim,a says this: Footnote: a Col_1:15, Heb_1:6.

Rev 3:15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I would that you were cold or hot.

Rev 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.

Rev 3:17 “Because you say, ‘Rich I am, and I am made rich, Hos_12:8 and need none at all,’ and do not know that you are wretched, and pitiable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

“A doctrinal Catechism” by Stephen Keenan, pg. 174 tells us that the Universal ((Remember: the term Catholic means universal.)) Church authorities was asked, “Have you any other way of proving that the church (RC) has power to institute festivals of precept? They responded with, “Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her- she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no scriptural authority.”

Isa 58:13 “If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath ’a delight,’ the set-apart day of יהוה ‘esteemed,’ and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words,

Isa 58:14 then you shall delight yourself in יהוה. And I shall cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and feed you with the inheritance of Ya‛aqoḇ your father. For the mouth of יהוה has spoken!”

Verse 12 – Word 5 – This one is easy. We only have one set of parents so that is the easiest of all if we love our parents. Right? Rom 13:1 Let every being be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from Elohim, and the authorities that exist are appointed by Elohim.

Rom 13:2 So he who opposes the authority withstands the institution of Elohim, and those who withstand shall bring judgment on themselves.

Rom 13:3 For those ruling are an object of fear, not to good works, but to evil. Do you wish to be not afraid of the authority? Do the good, and you shall have praise from it,

Rom 13:4 for it is a servant of Elohim to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword in vain. For it is a servant of Elohim, a revenger to execute wrath on him who practises evil.

Rom 13:5 Therefore, it is necessary to be subject, not only because of wrath but also because of the conscience.

Rom 13:6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are servants of Elohim attending continually to these duties.

Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all what is due to them: tax to whom tax is due, toll to whom toll, fear to whom fear, respect to whom respect.

The custom of the Semitic peoples is that the leader(elder) of a group is the father or mother of the group. It is not dependent upon blood kinship.

Mal 1:6 “A son esteems his father, and a servant his master. And if I am the Father, where is My esteem? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? said יהוה of hosts to you priests who despise My Name. But you asked, ‘In what way have we despised Your Name?’

Verse 13 – Word 6 – This one is easy don’t commit murder. Right?

Mat 5:21 “You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,’ and whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.

Mat 5:22 “But I say to you that whoever is wroth with his brother without a cause shall be liable to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raka!’ shall be liable to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to fire of GěHinnom.

Oops again.

Verse 14 – Word 7 – Hmm. Do not commit adultery. I wonder if that means what I think it means?

Mat 5:27 “You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

Mat 5:28 “But I say to you that everyone looking at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Well, that makes it tougher but it is still doable. Let’s look it up and see: H5003 – נאף – nâ’aph – BDB Definition:1) to commit adultery 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to commit adultery 1a1a) usually of man 1a1a1) always with wife of another 1a1b) adultery (of women) (participle) 1a2) idolatrous worship (figuratively)

We forget that we are supposed to be the Bride of Elohim. We are betrothed to YHVH and if we place someone, some thing before Him, we are not only committing idolatry but also adultery.

Jas 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim.

You know, I am beginning to think that if the church was smart it would keep the Commands of Elohim in the “old” Testament because things sure do get tougher in the “new”.

Verse 15 – Word 8 – Alright, stealing is stealing and that is all there is to it. Right? H1589 – גָּנַב – gânab – gaw-nab’ – A primitive root; to thieve (literally or figuratively); by implication to deceive: – carry away, X indeed, secretly bring, steal (away), get by stealth.

Now, do you see why Sha’ul wrote: Eph 4:28 Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, so that he has somewhat to share with those in need.

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth, but only such as is good for the use of building up, so as to impart what is pleasant to the hearers.

Verse 16 – Word 9 – Do not bear false witness, you mean like in court? No! H7453 – רֵיעַ  רֵעַ – rêa‛ rêya‛ ray’-ah, ray’-ah From H7462; an associate (more or less close): – brother, companion, fellow, friend, husband, lover, neighbour, X (an-) other.

H8267 – שֶׁקֶר – sheqer – sheh’-ker – From H8266; an untruth; by implication a sham (often adverbially): – without a cause, deceit (-ful), false (-hood, -ly), feignedly, liar, + lie, lying, vain (thing), wrongfully.

H5707 – עֵד – ‛êd – ayd – From H5749 contracted; concretely a witness; abstractly testimony; specifically a recorder, that is, prince: – witness.

Sounds like slander or gossip more than having anything to do with going to court.

Psa 101:5 Him who secretly slanders his neighbour I cut off; I do not tolerate one Who has a haughty look and a proud heart.

Psa 101:6 My eyes are on the trustworthy of the land, To dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He serves me.

Psa 101:7 He who practises deceit Does not dwell in my house; He who speaks lies Does not stand in my presence.

Jas 4:11 Brothers, do not speak against one another. He that speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against Torah and judges Torah. And if you judge Torah, you are not a doer of Torah but a judge.

Verse 17 -Word 10 – Well, I don’t want my neighbor’s wife, and he doesn’t even have a male or female servant or an ox or a donkey so I have made.

Rom 7:7 What, then, shall we say? Is the Torah sin? Let it not be! However, I did not know sin except through the Torah. For also the covetousness I knew not if the Torah had not said, “You shall not covet.”

1Ti 6:6 But reverence with contentment is great gain.

1Ti 6:7 For we brought naught into the world, and it is impossible to take any out.

1Ti 6:8 When we have food and covering, we shall be satisfied with these.

1Ti 6:9 But those wishing to be rich fall into trial and a snare, and into many foolish and injurious lusts which plunge men in ruin and destruction.

1Ti 6:10 For the love of silver is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some, by longing for it, have strayed from the belief, and pierced themselves through with many pains.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. And these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you desire to do.

Starting to sound like “keeping up with the Jones”?

Heb 13:5 Let your way of life be without the love of silver, and be satisfied with what you have. For He Himself has said, “I shall never leave you nor forsake you,”

Verses 18-19 – The people were afraid. They heard the sound of the shofar which signaled the completion of the covenant. They knew they had sinned. YHVH’s Words cut straight into their hearts and convicted them of their sin. Now we see they altered the covenant, they did not want to hear YHVH’s voice. They were afraid they would die because of the gravity of their sin. Mosheh became their intercessor, their mediator. That is what happened at that Shabuoth known as Pentecost, restoring our ability to hear His Voice. Yeshua is now our Intercessor, and Mediator.

1Ti_2:5 For there is one Elohim,a and one Mediator between Elohim and men, the Man Messiah יהושע,

Heb_9:15 And because of this He is the Mediator of a renewed covenant, so that, death having taken place for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called might receive the promise of the everlasting inheritance.

Heb_12:24 and to יהושע the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling which speaks better than the blood of Heḇel.
