Shemoth (Exodus) 15

Lesson date: 10/15/5855AA

Verses 1-2 – This is the very first time in Scripture that we see a song of deliverance being sung to YHVH. In fact, this is the first time we see a song of any kind being sung to YHVH. If you look at the word for the verb “sang” this is the first time it is used in Scripture: H7891 – שׁוּר  שִׁיר  – shı̂yr  shûr – sheer, shoor

The second form being the original form, used in (1Sa_18:6); a primitive root (rather identical with H7788 through the idea of strolling minstrelsy); to sing: – behold [by mistake for H7789], sing (-er, -ing man, -ing woman).

If you compare the words in verses 1 and 2 used for the word song you will see two different types of songs being described. The first matches the verb for “sang” and is H7892 – שִׁירָה  שִׁיר – shı̂yr  shı̂yrâh –

sheer, shee-raw’ – The second form being feminine; from H7891; a song; abstractly singing: – musical (-ick), X sing (-er, -ing), song.

The word used in verse 2 is: H2176 – זִמְרָת – zimrâth – zim-rawth’ – From H2167; instrumental music; by implication praise: – song.

“Sheer” or “shoor” is used 86 times in Scripture whereas, “zimrath” is only used 3 times and I think that each time is significant: Exo 15:2 “Yah is my strength and song, and He has become my deliverance. He is my Ěl, and I praise Him – Elohim of my father, and I exalt Him.

Psa 118:14 Yah is my strength and song, And He has become my deliverance.

Isa 12:1 And in that day you shall say, “I thank You יהוה, though You were enraged with me, Your displeasure has turned back, and You have comforted me.

Isa 12:2 “See, Ěl is my deliverance, I trust and am not afraid. For Yah, יהוה, is my strength and my song; and He has become my deliverance.”

Isa 12:3 And you shall draw water with joy from the fountains of deliverance.

Isa 12:4 And in that day you shall say, “Praise יהוה, call upon His Name; make known His deeds among the peoples, make mention that His Name is exalted.

Isa 12:5 “Sing to יהוה, For He has done excellently; this is known in all the earth.

Isa 12:6 “Cry aloud and shout, O inhabitant of Tsiyon, for great is the Set-apart One of Yisra’ěl in your midst!”

Stop and look at the similar components of the songs. Do you see them? Now, here is something else that will make you go “Hmmm?” In the KJV1611 the word H3068 – which is used 6,521 times in Scripture is only translated as JEHOVAH 4 times. YHVH’s name is only used in the KJV1611 4 times and Isa. 12:2 is one of those times

Exo 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

Psa 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

Isa 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Please look at Isa. 12:1 one more time. Notice that I underlined four words. Why? What day is that day? It is a clue about this song and when we will sing it.

Rev 5:9 And they sang a renewed song, saying, “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals, because You were slain, and have redeemed us to Elohim by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

Rev 1:10 I came to be in the Spirit on the Day of יהוה, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, ((Isa_13:6, Isa_13:9, Eze_13:5, Joe_1:15, Joe_2:1, Joe_2:11, Joe_2:31, Joe_3:14, Amo_5:16-20, Oba_1:15, Zep_1:7, Zep_1:14, Mal_4:5, Act_2:20, 1Th_5:2, 2Th_2:2, 2Pe_3:10.))

So, what makes Rev. 5:9 the same song, just renewed? The word “deliverance”: H3444 – יְשׁוּעָה – yeshû‛âh – yesh-oo’-aw – ((Yeshua))

Now, this is not all the singing that we will be doing: Rev 15:1 And I saw another sign in the heaven, great and marvellous: seven messengers having the seven last plagues, a for the wrath of Elohim was ended in them. Footnote: aSee Rev_21:9.

Rev 15:2 And I saw like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those overcoming the beast and his image and his mark and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of Elohim.

Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Mosheh the servant of Elohim, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvellous are Your works, יהוה Ěl Shaddai! Righteous and true are Your ways, O Sovereign of the set-apart ones!

Rev 15:4 “Who shall not fear You, O יהוה, and esteem Your Name? Because You alone are kind. Because all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your righteousnesses have been made manifest.”

How has His righteousnesses been made manifest? Through Torah!

There is much more in these two verses but we will cover the again at another time.

Verse 3 – YHVH is a man of battle. Look at the word used for “man”, it is not “adawm” but rather “iysh” (eesh – H376) which can also mean husband. Our “jealous” husband is going to fight for us: Exo 20:5 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

and why is He jealous? Exo 20:2 “I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of slavery.

The word used for battle is: H4421 – מִלְחָמָה – milchâmâh – mil-khaw-maw’ – From H3898 (in the sense of fighting); a battle (that is, the engagement); generally war (that is, warfare): – battle, fight, (-ing), war ([-rior]).

Verse 4 – Please note that the word used for chariots in this verse is not the same word used in Exo. 14:7. I believe that there is a reason for this.

Verse 6 – H3225 – יָמִין – yâmı̂yn – yaw-meen’ – From H3231; the right hand or side (leg, eye) of a person or other object (as the stronger and more dexterous); locally, the south: – + left-handed, right (hand, side), south.

Psa 118:14 Yah is my strength and song, And He has become my deliverance.

Psa 118:15 The voice of rejoicing and deliverance Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of יהוה is doing mightily.

Psa 118:16 The right hand of יהוה is exalted, The right hand of יהוה acts mightily.

Psa 118:17 Let me not die, but live ((eternal life)), And declare the works of Yah.

Psa 110:1 יהוה said to my Master, “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

Mat 26:64 יהושע said to him, “You have said it. Besides I say to you, from now on you shall see the Son of Aḏam sitting at the right hand of the Power, Psa_110:1 and coming on the clouds of the heaven.” Dan_7:13.

Mat 26:65 Then the high priest tore his garments, saying, “He has blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? See, now you have heard His blasphemy!

((Why was this blasphemy?))

Act 5:30 “The Elohim of our fathers raised up יהושע whom you laid hands on, hanging Him on a timber.

Act 5:31 “Him, a Prince and a Saviour, Elohim has exalted to His right hand, to give repentance to Yisra’ěl and forgiveness of sins.

Isa 43:11 “I, I am יהוה, and besides Me there is no saviour.

Verses 7-10 – Day of Wrath. Job_20:28 The increase of his house departs, flowing away in the day of His wrath.

Job_21:30 That the wicked is kept for the day of calamity. They are brought to the day of wrath.

Psa_110:5 יהוה at Your right hand Shall smite sovereigns in the day of His wrath.

Pro_11:4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

(Vs. 8) Job 4:9 Through the breath((Neshamah)) of Eloah they perish, and through the Spirit ((Ruach)) of His nostrils they are consumed.

2Th 2:8 And then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Master shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth and bring to naught with the manifestation of His coming.

(Vs.9) Notice the idle threats of the “wicked”/”enemy”.  Rev 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child.

Rev 12:15 And out of his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river after the woman, to cause her to be swept away by the river.

Rev 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.

Dan 7:21 “I was looking, and this horn was fighting against the set-apart ones, and was prevailing against them,

Dan 7:25 and it speaks words against the Most High, and it wears out the set-apart ones of the Most High, and it intends to change appointed times and law, and they are given into its hand for a time and times and half a time.

Hasatan will attack us with everything he has but it is YHVH Who fights for us. Notice that in Rev.12:15-16 that the dragon is using water(multitude, people, nations) to attack the set-apart ones. It was water that defeated Pharaoh’s army (enemy).

Mat 8:26 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little belief?” Then, having risen, He rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm.

Mat 8:27 And the men marvelled, saying, “What is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Even the winds and sea obey our Master.

Verse 11 – “Who is like You?” 2Sa_7:22  “You are great indeed, O Master יהוה. For there is none like You, and there is no Elohim but You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

1Ch_17:20 “O יהוה, there is none like You, nor is there any Elohim besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Psa_86:8 There is none like You among the mighty ones, O יהוה; And like Your works there are none.

Jer_10:6 There is none like You, O יהוה. You are great, and great is Your Name in might.

Jer_10:7 Who would not fear You, O Sovereign of the nations? For this is Your due, for among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their reigns, there is none like You.

Verses 14-16 – Joe 2:1 Blow a shophar in Tsiyon, and sound an alarm in My set-apart mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the earth tremble, for the day of יהוה is coming, for it is near:

Isa_64:2 as when fire burns twigs, as fire makes water boil – to make Your Name known to Your adversaries, so that nations tremble before You.

Jer_33:9 And it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and a pride before all nations of the earth, who hear all the good I am doing to them, and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the peace I am doing to it.’

Psa 99:1 יהוה shall reign; Peoples tremble! He is enthroned on the keruḇim; The earth shakes!

In verse 16 notice that the phrase “pass over” is used twice in conjunction with His people and with them going into the land prepared for them.

Verse 17 – Deu 32:9 “For the portion of יהוה is His people, Ya‛aqoḇ His allotted inheritance.

Verse 18 – Psa. 10:16 “יהוה is Sovereign forever and ever; the gentiles shall perish from His land.”

Psa. 29:10 “יהוה sat enthroned at the Flood, and יהוה sits as Sovereign forever.”

Dan. 4:3 “How great are His signs, and how mighty His wonders! His reign is an everlasting reign, and His rulership is from generation to generation.”

Dan. 7:27 “And the reign, and the rulership, and the greatness of the reigns under all the heavens, shall be given to the people, the set-apart ones of the Most-High. His reign is an everlasting reign, and all rulerships shall serve and obey Him.”

Mat.6:13 “And do not lead us into trial, but deliver us from the wicked one – because Yours is the reign and the power and the esteem, forever. Aměn.”

Verses 20-21 – Miryam is called a prophetess(literally an inspired woman.)

Verses 22- 27 – Do not Grumble! 1Co 10:8 Neither should we commit whoring, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell,

1Co 10:9 neither let us try Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were destroyed by serpents,

1Co 10:10 neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Jas_5:9 Do not grumble against each other, brothers, lest you be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the door!

Joh_6:43 Then יהושע answered and said to them, “Do not grumble with one another.

I am told that Marah still exists and that the water there is still bitter but it is not harmful. Just the opposite. The water at Marah is said to be good for you because it will kill bad intestinal flora but leave the good flora intact and will also kill parasites in the intestines as well. We have already discussed the equation of Yeshua to the tree at Marah that turned the bitter “water” sweet.

Stop number 5 on their journey is Elim. There they found 12 fountains of water (twelve tribes) and 70 palm trees (there were 70 nations in the world at this time and there will be 70 elders over the nation of Yisra’el.) No, this is not a stop at Palm Springs, it is a bit more than that. Remember the progress that they have made so far. Read over chapters 13 and 14. Elim (Eleem) is the plural of “ayil” – leader, chief, mighty (man). Where are they camped? In their Leader beside the waters.

Psa 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.

Joh 4:13 יהושע answered and said to her, “Everyone drinking of this water shall thirst again,

Joh 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water I give him shall certainly never thirst. And the water that I give him shall become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Ahavah,
