Bereshith (Genesis) 46

Verse 1 – What is happening here? We have talked about Be’ersheba many times and especially the word “sheba” for “oath” or “sevening oneself” but, we really haven’t talked about be’er (H875) which means well. It comes for ba’ar (H874) to make plain, expound on, to engrave (as on a stone or rock) to declare: Deu 1:5 Beyond the Yardĕn, in the land of Mo’aḇ, Mosheh undertook to declare this Torah, saying,

Deu 27:8 “And you shall write all the Words of this Torah on the stones – plainly and well.”

Hab 2:2 And יהוה answered me and said, “Write the vision and inscribe it on tablets, so that he who reads it runs.

It was at Be’ersheba that Abraham called YHVH El Olam! The Everlasting El.

Gen 21:33 And he planted a tamarisk tree in Be’ĕrsheba, and there called on the Name of יהוה, the Everlasting Ěl.

It was also at Be’ersheba that YHVH appeared to Yitshaq and Yitshaq built an alter: Gen 26:23 And from there he went up to Be’ĕrsheḇa.

Gen 26:24 And יהוה appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the Elohim of your father Aḇraham. Do not fear, for I am with you, and shall bless you and increase your seed for My servant Aḇraham’s sake.”

Gen 26:25 And he built an altar there, and called on the Name of יהוה, and he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Yitsḥaq dug a well there.

So, what is happening here? He is renewing the covenant with YHVH…b’rit hadasha (H2318).

And, Yisra’el slaughtered slaughterings = (H2076) (H2077) the same as: Psa 4:5 Offer slaughterings of righteousness, And trust in יהוה.

Psa 107:22 And let them bring slaughterings of thanksgiving, And relate His works with rejoicing.

Psa 116:17 I bring You a slaughtering of thanksgiving, And call upon the Name of יהוה.

Verses 2-3 – Yisra’el has a vision in the night and YHVH calls out to him and he answer: “Here I am”. It almost sounds as though Yisra’el is making himself known to a rescuer that is going to rescue him.

Verse 4 – Look at the Promise being made to Yisra’el: I Myself an going down with you to Mitsrayim.”

Big deal! God is everywhere right? Not at this time. 2Ki 5:15 And he returned to the man of Elohim, he and all his company, and came and stood before him and said, “See, now I know that there is no Elohim in all the earth, except in Yisra’ĕl. And now, please take a gift from your servant.”

Deu 32:9 “For the portion of יהוה is His people, Yaʽaqoḇ His allotted inheritance.

Yeshua came for the nations: Mat 28:18 And יהושע came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Mat 28:19 “Therefore, go and make taught ones of all the nations, immersing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Set-apart Spirit,

Mat 28:20 teaching them to guard all that I have commanded you. And see, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Amĕn.

Now, look at the other promise made to Yisra’el: “And let Yoseph put his hand on your eyes.” YHVH is promising Yisra’el that Yoseph will be with him when he dies. After 22 years of separation, believing that Yoseph was dead, Yoseph will be with his father at the time of his death. WOW!!!

Verses 5-7 – After having renewed the covenant of Abraham with YHVH and having received an assurance that YHVH would indeed go with him, he took all that he had and went to Mitsrayim.

1Co 11:23 For I received from the Master that which I also delivered to you: that the Master יהושע in the night in which He was delivered up took bread,

1Co 11:24 and having given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat, this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

1Co 11:25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the renewed covenant in My blood. As often as you drink it, do this in remembrance of Me.”

1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Master until He comes.

1Co 11:27 So that whoever should eat this bread or drink this cup of the Master unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Master.

Isa 5:1 Please let me sing to the One I love, a song for my loved One regarding His vineyard: my loved One has a vineyard on a fertile hill.

Isa 5:2 And He dug it up and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a watchtower in its midst, and also made a winepress in it. And He waited for the yielding of grapes, but it yielded rotten ones.

Isa 5:3 “And now, O inhabitant of Yerushalayim and man of Yehudah, please judge between Me and My vineyard.

Isa 5:4 “What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I waited for the yielding of grapes, did it yield rotten ones?

Isa 5:5 “And now, please let Me inform you what I am doing to My vineyard: To take away its hedge and it shall be burned; to break down its wall and it shall be trampled down;

Exo_15:6 “Your right hand, O יהוה, has become great in power. Your right hand, O יהוה, has crushed the enemy.

Mar_14:62 And יהושע said, “I am, and you shall see the Son of Aḏam sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of the heaven.”

Gen_18:25 “Far be it from You to act in this way, to slay the righteous with the wrong, so that the righteous should be as the wrong. Far be it from You! Does the Judge of all the earth not do right?”

Mat 7:23 “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’

Also, notice that the sons are not in their proper birth order or, even the order they were in in Shemoth 1.

((Behold!(e)A Son, to whom we are joined and He is praised because there is recompense. He is exalted above the troop, the Happy One Who adds and is the Son of the Right Hand, Who will Judge with great wrestling.))

Verses 26-27 – 66 + Yoseph, Menashsheh, Ephrayim, Ya’aqob = 70. Notice, the women are not counted.

Verse 28 – Notice it is Yehudah that is sent to Yoseph, depicting the two kingdoms of Yisra’el or a united Yisra’el. Also, remember Goshen means ‘drawing near’. How do we draw near to YHVH? Psa 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His Name.
