*Many scholars down through the years have considered Amraphel to be Hammurabi and as of late this seems to have shifted. Please note what Yasher says about it:  And Nimrod dwelt in Babel, and he there renewed his reign over the rest of his subjects, and he reigned securely, and the subjects and princes of Nimrod called his name Amraphel, saying that at the tower his princes and men fell through his means.— Sefer haYashar 11

** Please note that this is exactly how they will die burning, submersion in fire and destruction.

Verse 5 – We see that Kedorla’omer and his allies fought giants at Ashteroth Qarayim and fought Zuzims, aborigines who travelled from place to place and, the “Emiyms” whose name literally means “terrors”.

Verses 5-12 – We witness a civil war taking place. Amraphel is the Suzerain king and the other kings are vassal kings. Some kings remained loyal to Nimrod while other chose not to pay the yearly “tribute” money and for this there was a war.

Verse 13 – Notice that in this verse we see Abram has a covenant with the Amorites. Also, in this verse we see Abram clearly identified as a Hebrew. How can Abram have a covenant with someone who is opposed to YHVH? ((Bere. 15:16)) Ecc 3:1  For every matter there is an appointed time, even a time for every pursuit under the heavens:

Verse 14 – Abram is ready to go to war with a superior enemy in order to save “his brother”.

Pro 24:11  Deliver those taken to death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter,

Pro 24:12  If you say, “See, we did not know this,” Would not He who weighs the hearts discern it? He who watches over your life, Would He not know it? And shall He not repay man according to his work?

Verses 18-20 – Here we see the first mention of a character that is treated as someone mysterious; Malkitsedeq = My king is righteous. He is also identified as the king of Shalem which is the early name of Yerushalayim. Again, Malkitsedeq is identified as the “priest of the Most High El”. It is quite obvious to us that he was well known to Abram. Malkitsedeq brings wine and bread to Abram and blesses him. In return Abram gives him a tenth of all the booty taken in the battle. Let’s look at Malkitsedeq’s name in pictographic Hebrew:

m         = water, chaos, mighty, nations

l         = shepherd’s staff, authority

k         = open hand, tame, subdue, bend or curve

I         = hand and arm, strong arm, work, throw, make

y         = a man on his side, lay down one’s life, to hunt or fish

d         = tent door flap, to dangle or swing back and forth

q         = horizon, time, cycle, to go around, eternity

The nations that are led by the Shepherd’s  Hand, and submit to, the One who lays down His life for us, for He is the Door to eternity!

Verses 21-24 – Abram refuses to be blessed by a man but would rather receive the blessing of Elohim.

Here , in Chapter 14, we see the first recorded war. War has been alluded to earlier because of the sin of Azazel but in Bereshith this is the first recorded war. In the introduction to Chapter 14 is the entire message of this Scripture. WOW!!! Let’s break this down and see who and what is who and what:

Verse 1

4 Kings:

אַמְרָפֶל Amraphel – Strong’s H569 – sayer of darkness: fall of the sayer – (Thought to be Hammurabi)

king of שִנְעָר Shinar – Strong’s H8152 – country of two rivers’  (Sumer)

אַרְיוֹךְ Aryoḵ – Strong’s H746 – lion-like (Thought to be Uru Ki in history)

king of אֶלָסָרְ Ellasar – Strong’s H495 –El is chastener  (Historical kingdom of Larsa)

כְדָרְלָעֹמֶרְ Keḏorlaʽomer – Strong’s H3540 – handful of (Omer) sheaves (Thought to be Nimrod)

king of עֵילָם Elam – Strong’s h5867 – eternity

תִדְעָל Tiḏal – Strong’s H8413 –great son (Thought to be Tud’haliya first king of the Hittites)

king of גוֹיִם – ‘goyim’ – plural of גוֹיְ goy – Strong’s H1471 – nation, people (A reference to Amurru and Mitani who were vassal states to the Hittite Empire.)

The Fall of the Sayer of Darkness in the Country (Land) of the Two Rivers was because the Lion-like El was his Chastener and He took a Handful of Omer Sheaves to Eternity as His Great Son.

((Think about who Nimrod was and what he did and this matches Nimrod very well.))

1Co_15:23 And each in his own order: Messiah the first-fruits, then those who are of Messiah at His coming,

Verse 2

5 Kings:

בֶרַע Bera – Strong’s H1298 – son of evil

king of סְדֹםְ Seḏom – Strong’s H5467 – burning

בִרְשְַע Birsha – Strong’s H1306 – with iniquity

king of עֲמֹרָהְ Amorah – Strong’s H6017 – submersion (Can also be a “ruined heap”)

שִׁנְאָב Shinaḇ – Strong’s H8134 – splendour of the father

king of אַדְמָה Aḏmah – Strong’s H126 – red earth

שֶמְאֵבֶר Shem’ĕḇer – Strong’s H8038 – lofty flight

king of צְבֹיִים Tseḇoyim – gazelles

צֹעַר Tso‘ar – Strong’s H6820 – insignificance

king of בֶלַעְ Bela – Strong’s H1106 – destruction

The Son of Evil, Burning With Iniquity (Lawlessness or Torahlessness) in Submersion from the Father on The Red Earth rather than the Lofty Flight (Height) as Gazelles and became Insignificance and Destruction (in the end).

Was it meant to be read this way? I don’t know but I think it to be a strange coincidence.

Verse 3 – They came together in the Siddim (field or plain) of the salt sea

Verse 4-6 – The five kings served Kedorla’omer for 12 years but rebelled in the 13th year. In other words they did not pay their tribute money to the Suzerain King Kedorla’omer/Nimrod and I the 14th year he came looking for his tribute money. Stop and think about it, if Kedorla’omer was truly Nimrod what a slap in the face this was to his pride. King of measly city states rebelling against the mighty one, Nimrod.

Kedorla’omer and his allies fought and defeated the giants in Ashteroth of two peaks (Horns), he also defeated the Zuzims in an area east of the Jordan River and also defeated the Emims (Terrors) in the Plain of the Two Cities. He also defeated the Horites (cave dwellers) in Idumaea.

Verse 7 – On their return to a place called Emishpat (Fountain of Judgment) which is Kadesh (This will be important in the Book of Bemidbar) they killed all the Amelikites and Amorites, which was another race of giants: Amo 2:9 “Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars. And he was as strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit from above and his roots from beneath.

Verses 8-12 – Here we see the battle take place in Siddim and the kings of the city states lose and Kedorla’omer takes his spoil and it includes Lot.

Verse 13 – This verse is important, if for no other reason, than to see that Abram is referred to a the Hebrew, the one who crossed over but, look where he was camped by the terebinth tree of the Word – Mamre. Here is the answer to why the terebinth tree is so important:

a         Aleph  –           Strong leader, strong leader goes forwad, El or Elohim

l         Lamed –          Shepherd’s staff, authority, shepherd, by implication “the good shepherd”

f         Vav –               Tent peg, to affix, attach, join together

n         Nun –               Seed, sprouting seed, action, life

The Strong Leader (Elohim) is the Good Shepherd and Joins us Together with His Seed (Son).

Abraham was seated beneath the terebinth tree in Moreh letting the Teacher of Righteousness rain down righteous teaching upon him. What a beautiful picture. No wonder he was declared righteous by his faith: Joe 2:23 And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you the Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.

Verse 14 – Abram took his 318 trained servants, born in his (house, tent, camp) to go and rescue Lot. The word trained also means experienced or tried so, they were not just taught how to fight but had fought in battle before.

Verse 15-16 – Abram employed and “ambush by night” tactic which was decisive and pursued them west of Damascus. He was successful and recovered all the goods, women, captives and Lot

Verses 17-20 – Abram meets Malkitseḏeq and is blessed by him. Malkitseḏeq is the King of Shalem, which is the ancient name of Yerushalayim and has been found many times in the ruins of Yerushalayim by archeologists. Does Abram know Malkitseḏeq? Yes, he does and according to many traditions was even educated by him as a young boy until he became a teenager. Also, Malkitseḏeq’s father also help educate Abram. Who was Malkitseḏeq? Who was his father?

Verses 23-24 – It would be hard to pass up everything that was offered to him but Abram did because he depended, not on man, but on YHVH to bestow His Wealth upon him. Stop and think about the evil that was seeped into the 5 cities of Sedom and ‘Amorah. I think in Abram’s eyes it was also evil. Put it today’s context drug money, prostitution child trafficking. If I knew that this is where the money came from I wouldn’t want it either because it was an abomination.
