Verse 1 – לֶךְ־לְךָ – leḵ leḵa. This is a Hebrew contraction of two words. The first Lek is for H1980 – הָלַךְ – hâlak – haw-lak’ – Akin to H3212; a primitive root; to walk (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively): and the second leka is lek plus attah from attah – Strong’s H859 – H859 – אַתֵּנָּה – אַתֵּנָה – אַתֶּן – אַתֶּם אַתִּי- אַת – אַתָּ – אַתָּה – ‘attâh ‘attâ ‘ath ‘attı̂y ‘attem ‘atten ‘attênâh ‘attênnâh – at-taw’ at-taw’ at-tee’ at-tem’ at-ten’ – A primitive pronoun of the second person; thou and thee, or (plural) ye and you: – thee, thou, ye, you. In order to translate this into the modern standardized Texas dialect we would say, “Y’all go on and git on outta hyunh”. Anyway, halak is used twice and together so it must be important for us to focus on halak.
E = behold
l = shepherd’s staff, authority
k = palm, open hand, greeting
“Behold the sign of authority(shepherd’s staff/nail scarred hands) in His hand”
All joking aside this is an imperative command form being used. This is not a suggestion to be done at some future date but is said in an imperative voice which could be expressed in English, “Now, get up and get out of here”.
What is very interesting is when you convert the Scriptures in E-Sword to ABP+ and find that the word for halak is G1831 – ἐξέρχομαι -exerchomai – ex-er’-khom-ahee – From G1537 and G2064; to issue (literally or figuratively): – come-(forth, out), depart (out of), escape, get out, go (abroad, away, forth, out, thence), proceed (forth), spread abroad. Which is the same word used by the apostle Sha’ul in 2 Cor. 6:17.
But look at what Yashar has to say about Abram: YASHER Chapter 9:5-6a “5 And when Aḇram came out from the cave, he went to Noaḥ and his son Shem, and he remained with them to learn the instruction of YAHWEH and his ways, and no man knew where Aḇram was, and Aḇram served Noaḥ and Shem his son for a long time. 6 And Aḇram was in Noaḥ’s house thirty-nine years, and Aḇram knew YAHWEH from three years old, and he went in the ways of YAHWEH until the day of his death, as Noaḥ and his son Shem had taught him…”
You could even say, “Leave Nimrod’s kingdom and seek mine where I show you”. That pretty well sums up our experience in the Word through the Ruach Hakodesh so far in all that we read and study. Abram did not suddenly hear YHVH’s voice at 75 years of age, he KNEW YHVH’s voice and was obedient to the command.
“from your relatives and from your father’s house,” is the next part of the command and this is the part that Abram did not obey. Why?
Mar 10:29 יהושע said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for the sake of Me and the Good News,
Mar 10:30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, everlasting life.
Mar 10:31 “But many who are first shall be last, and the last first.”
I fully equate what Abram did to what we must do in our obedience to Yah’s Word. We must come out of our fathers’ houses. Why?
Jer 16:19 O יהוה, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value in them.”
Our fathers was under a deception of falsehood. It looked scriptural because it was whitewashed with scripture just like the deception of Hasatan try to deceive Yeshua in the desert. He used scripture to try to deceive.
Did YHVH fully reveal His Plan to Abram all at once? No! He reveals it slowly, step by step. After each test of obedience Abram is told more of the blessing he and his descendants will receive. Do we see our blessing all at once? No. Little by little we receive it. Did the early Gentiles do all of it all at once? No: Act 15:13 And after they were silent, Yaʽaqoḇ answered, saying, “Men, brothers, listen to me:
Act 15:14 “Shimʽon has declared how Elohim first visited the gentiles to take out of them a people for His Name.
Act 15:15 “And the words of the prophets agree with this, as it has been written:
Act 15:16 ‘After this I shall return and rebuild the Booth of Dawid which has fallen down. And I shall rebuild its ruins, and I shall set it up,
Act 15:17 so that the remnant of mankind shall seek יהוה, even all the gentiles on whom My Name has been called, says יהוה who is doing all this,’
Act 15:18 who has made this known from of old.
Act 15:19 “Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the gentiles who are turning to Elohim,
Act 15:20 but that we write to them to abstain from the defilements of idols, and from whoring, and from what is strangled, and from blood.
Act 15:21 “For from ancient generations Mosheh has, in every city, those proclaiming him – being read in the congregations every Sabbath.”
He does not give us too much to bear all at once but reveals Himself step by step.
Verses 2-3 – YHVH promises to make Abram a great nation and to bless all nations of the Earth through Abram: Gal 3:6 Even so Abraham “did believe Elohim, and it was reckoned unto him as righteousness.”
Gal 3:7 Know, then, that those who are of belief are sons of Abraham.
Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, having foreseen that Elohim would declare right the nations by belief, announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,”
Just like Abram, he heard the Word of Elohim, he guarded the Word of Elohim and he did the Word of Elohim, we must also.
The curse given here is often misunderstood or mistranslated. מְקַלֶּלְךָ (mekalelcha H7043) will be in turn “be cursed” אָאֹר (aor H779). When these two words are used in this way it carries the meaning of “I will utterly destroy those who curse you.”
How do you utterly destroy someone? Mat 10:28 “And do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the being. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both being and body in Gehenna.
How does Abram bless all clans of the Earth? Gal 3:13 Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the Torah, having become a curse for us – for it has been written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree.”
Gal 3:14 in order that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the nations in Messiah יהושע, to receive the promise of the Spirit through belief.
And: Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were immersed into Messiah have put on Messiah.
Gal 3:28 There is not Yehudite nor Greek, there is not slave nor free, there is not male and female, for you are all one in Messiah יהושע.
Gal 3:29 And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Abraham, and heirs according to promise.
And here is the promise; that all nations would be blessed through the coming of Yeshua through Abraham’s bloodline.
Isa 52:5 “And now, what have I here,” declares יהוה, “that My people are taken away for naught? Those who rule over them make them wail,” declares יהוה, “and My Name is despised all day continually.
Isa 52:6 “Therefore My people shall know My Name, in that day, for I am the One who is speaking. See, it is I.”
Psa 10:13 Why do the wrong scorn Elohim? He has said in his heart, “It is not required.”
Mal 1:6 “A son esteems his father, and a servant his master. And if I am the Father, where is My esteem? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? said יהוה of hosts to you priests who despise My Name. But you asked, ‘In what way have we despised Your Name?’
By His amazing grace He has taken us out of Babylonian Sun worship, shown us His moedim, not man’s and established His Name in our heart.: Num 6:27 “Thus they shall put My Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, and I Myself shall bless them.”
Verse 4 – Abram was 75 years old when he left to follow the command of YHVH. We are never to old to be called out. Mrs. McCormick was in her 80’s when YHVH revealed His Sabbath to her. Heb 11:8 By belief, Aḇraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he was about to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Verse 5 – This verse provides one more clue as to why I think that Abram did not leave Ur of the Chaldees but rather Uruk of the Khattis. Look at the word Haran – H2771 – חרן – chârân – BDB Definition: Haran = “mountaineer”. When you leave Ur of the Chaldees it is one long vast plain until you hit the desert. But if you leave Uruk, which is in the mountains of Turkey you are descending down into a lower territory. Also, remember that Elazar was born in Damascus, this is another clue.
Verse 6-7 – terebinth tree of Moreh. – אֵלוֹן מָוֹרֶה – ‘elon moreh’. There is much more to this phrase than what we read. The KJV does not translate eylon as terebinth tree but rather “plain”. The terebinth tree is related to the cashew family and produces nuts. It also, like the pine tree, produces turpentine. It is most commonly translated by many as “oak” tree. It is a stout, strong tree with a deep root system. What makes this phrase so special? H4176 – מרה / מורה – môreh – BDB Definition: Moreh = “teacher”
Job 36:22 See, Ěl is exalted by His power; who is a Teacher like Him?
Psa 121:5 יהוה is your guard; יהוה is your shade at your right hand.
Psa 84:6 Passing through the valley of weeping, They make it a fountain; The Teacher also covers it with blessings.
Isa 30:20 Though יהוה gave you bread of adversity and water of affliction, your Teacher shall no longer be hidden. But your eyes shall see your Teacher
Joe_2:23 And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you the Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.
Isa 6:13 “But still, there is a tenth part in it, and it shall again be for a burning, like a terebinth tree and like an oak, whose stump remains when it is cut down. The set-apart seed is its stump!”
So, this 75 year old terebinth tree, from which would come the Messiah stopped in front of the Teacher, who would one day come from his descendants. Joh 13:13 “You call me Teacher and Master, and you say well, for I am.
And what happened? YHVH appeared to Abram. וַיֵרָא – ‘vayyerah’ for the root word ra’ah H7200 – ראה – râ’âh – BDB Definition: – 1) to see, look at, inspect, perceive, consider
Joh 8:56 “Your father Abraham was glad that he should see My day, and he saw it and did rejoice.”
Joh 8:57 The Yehudim, therefore, said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
Joh 8:58 יהושע said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am.”
Verse 8 – Follow how this happens; Abram is called to leave his home and to go to the terebinth tree of Moreh and for their he moves to the “house of El” Beit El (Bethel KJV).
Joh 14:2 “In My Father’s house are many staying places. And if not, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
When we get to Beit El we come before the altar and call upon His Name. Deu 12:5 but seek the place which יהוה your Elohim chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His Name there, for His Dwelling Place, and there you shall enter.
Verse 9 – What happened? הָלוֹךְ וְָנָסוֹעַָ – haloḵ venasua “he kept walking”.
Verse 10 – Abram goes to Egypt because of scarcity of food, probably because of a drought.
Verse 11-12 – Remember, Sarai is 10 years yours than Abram but she is still at least 65 years old. He is afraid that once the Egyptians see Sarai they will kill him so that they can take her. He instructs her to say that she is his sister, not wife. A half truth is a whole lie.
Verses 14-16 – To obtain Sarai the Pharoah gives Abram many possessions including male and female servants. We are told in othere sources that this is when Abram is given Hagar, who was the daughter of Pharoah.
Verses 17-20 – We see that YHVH judged Pharoah because he had taken Sarai but only because Abram had deceived him.
Lesson date: 04/02/5858AA
I mentioned last week that I wanted to look at Abram’s family tree a little more in depth. At one time I had an anthology of lost books of the “Bible”. It had about 320’ish books that had been submitted to the Nicean Council but were rejected for various reasons. Remember, Revelation was also rejected but later added to the canon of Scripture and 1 Enoch removed. It was however, preserved in the canon of the Ethiopic Bible. As we have discussed 1 Enoch is quoted or alluded to 60+ times in the B’rit Hadasha by Yeshu’a’s half brother Yehudah, also Sha’ul, Kepha and Yeshu’a Himself. It was therefore taken seriously whether or not it was consider Scripture by them or others.
Why do I say this? Because it is possible some valid “books” were left out because of the prejudice of the various councils. In one of the books there was mention of a “blessing” to Eber by YHVH. No, I don’t remember the particular blessing but it was reflected in his name. If I remember correctly the blessing was: “I will make you a name for my people.”
H5677 – עבר – ‛êber – BDB Definition: Eber or Heber = “the region beyond”
H5680 – עברי – ‛ibrı̂y – BDB Definition: Hebrew = “one from beyond”
Genealogy of Teraḥ:
- Teraḥ – תֶּ רח – Strong’s H8646 – ‘delay’
- Aḇram – אבְרַָם – Strong’s H87 – ‘exalted father’
- Naḥor – נָחוֹר – Strong’s H5152 – ‘snorting’
- Ḥaran – הָרָן – Strong’s H2039 – ‘mountaineer’
- Lot – לוֹט – Strong’s H3876 – ‘covering
Please notice in Bere. 11:31 that for whatever reason Terah felt compelled to leave Ur-kasdim and move to Haran with his family and there he died.
This was not an insignificant journey and one would have to be compelled to make it if indeed it was Ur of the Kasdim and not Ir of the Khattis but, either way Terah left home for a reason. If they journeyed from Ur I believe it was from the north side of the Euphrates River in the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers to make caring and feeding the livestock much easier. ((I wasn’t there so I don’t know but the “crossing over” that Abram accomplished was the crossing of the Euphrates from Haran (Turkey) to what is now Syria and finally into the Promised Land.
Please remember that I mentioned to you a week or two ago the the Yisra’elites called the occupants of the Yerushalayim area Yebusites but in fact they were called Hurrians because of their origins. Haran = Hurrians which was the most advanced civilization at one time descending from the Ugaritic culture which could do things that we still cannot do to this day with all of our technology. Please understand, if what we believe does not match up with history there is something wrong. Either what we believe is a myth or historical dates are wrong. Look at the controversy of Daniel as an example. The “church” insists that it dates are correct but archeology and historical accounts say that it is wrong. But for the churcheology account of history and the Rapture to be correct it has to change time: Dan 7:25 and it speaks words against the Most High, and it wears out the set-apart ones of the Most High, and it intends to change appointed times and law, and they are given into its hand for a time and times and half a time.
Is modern science infallible? NO!!! But when contemporaries gives events that happened in a historical context we should pay attention. That is why the ministry of Brother Joe Dumond is so important in placing things in the proper historical context. Now, back to Bereshith 12.
Verse 1 – Gen 12:1 And יהוה said to Aḇram, “Go yourself out of your land, from your relatives and from your father’s house,
This is not pointed out very often but please look at what is being said: Gen 11:31 And Teraḥ took his son Aḇram and his grandson Lot, son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Aḇram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur-kasdim to go to the land of Kena‛an. And they came to Ḥaran and dwelt there.
Remember our discussions concerning a man’s house. Abram’s house included his wife. Terah’s house included Lot. Therefore, Lot was of Terah’s house not Abram’s house. Reread 12:1. This causes a problems later on and we will address it as it happens in Scripture.
Verse 2 – Obviously YHVH kept His promise to Abraham in making him a great nation as we are descendants of Abraham: Gal 3:27 For as many of you as were immersed into Messiah have put on Messiah.
Gal 3:28 There is not Yehuḏi nor Greek, there is not slave nor free, there is not male and female, for you are all one in Messiah יהושע.
Gal 3:29 And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.
Which promise? Let’s find out.
Verse 3 – Gen 12:3 “And I shall bless those who bless you, and curse(1) him who curses(2) you.
Do you know what an anomaly is? Something that stands out as different: ANOM’ALY, n. [Gr. inequality, equal, similar.]
- Irregularity; deviation from the common rule; thus oxen, the plural of ox, is an anomaly, in grammar, as the regular plural would be oxes.
Like the cat that ate the cheese and sat in front of the mouse hole I know you are waiting with baited breath for the anomaly. In this case it is “curse”. You would expect the words to be the same, right? That is not the case, therefore, let’s break it down: Curse (1) = אָאֹ֑ר and Curse (2) = וּמְקַלֶּלְךָ֖
((I know you are thinking, “Boy, are we in trouble now, right?”))
Curse (1) ’ā-’ōr; = H779 – ארר – ‘ârar – BDB Definition: – 1) to curse ((Can mean utterly destroy))
Curse (2) – ū-mə-qal-lel-qā = H7043 – קָלַל – qâlal – kaw-lal’ – A primitive root; to be (causatively make) light, literally (swift, small, sharp, etc.) or figuratively (easy, trifling, vile, etc.): – abate, make bright, bring into contempt, (ac-) curse, despise, (be) ease (-y, -ier),
Bless = H1288 – בָּרַךְ – bârak – baw-rak’ – to kneel down, to serve, to bless
Now, knowing what we have learned, let’s put this together: “Those who kneel down or serve you I will bless but, those who make light of you I will utterly destroy.”
Do you see how serious this is? Those who make light of the Abrahamic Covenant, between YHVH and Abraham, will be utterly destroyed. Please go back and reread Gal. 3:27-29. If you think it is possible to be a Gentile and a believer in the Messiah you are sadly mistaken: (ISR) Joh 3:3 יהושע answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he is unable to see the reign of Elohim.”
(KJV) Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
You must get rid of the Greek based theology about being a Gentile Christian/Believer and be born again into the covenant of Abraham or you will be utterly destroyed: (KJV) Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
(ISR) Mat 10:28 “And do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the being. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both being and body in GěHinnom.
Sounds like utterly destroy to me. On what day will this happen?
Ooh, ooh ooh. Guess what? Where did Noah land after the world was utterly destroyed? Same root word.
Verse 3(b) – And in you all the clans of the earth shall be blessed.” Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, having foreseen that Elohim would declare right the nations by belief, announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,”
Please understand that if you think there is one single verse in the B’rit Hadasha that speaks against Torah you are reading it WRONG, especially if it is Sha’ul’s teaching.
Verse 4 – and Lot went with him. Lot was of Terah’s house not Abram’s. This will cause many problems in the future. You are going to love how YHVH settles this.
Verse 6 – Gen 12:6 And Aḇram passed through the land to the place of Sheḵem ((Ridge)), as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh.((What is familiar about this word? Moreh =?)) If I were a betting man, which I am not, which type of tree do you think Abraham’s seed was hung upon? Gal 3:16 But the promises were spoken to Aḇraham, and to his Seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Messiah.
Gal 3:13 Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the Torah, having become a curse for us – for it has been written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree.”
Deu 21:22 “And when a man has committed a sin worthy of death, then he shall be put to death and you shall hang him on a tree.
Deu 21:23 “Let his body not remain overnight on the tree, for you shall certainly bury him the same day – for he who is hanged is accursed of Elohim – so that you do not defile the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you as an inheritance.
Joh 19:31 Therefore, since it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the stake on the Sabbath – for that Sabbath was a high one – the Yehuḏim asked Pilate to have their legs broken, and that they be taken away.
Joh 19:32 Therefore the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was impaled with Him,
Joh 19:33 but when they came to יהושע and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
Sounds like they were in a hurry because the next day was Unleavened Bread a Shabbat.
Joh 19:41 And at the place where He was impaled there was a garden ((Gethsemene)), and in the garden a fresh tomb in which no one had yet been laid.
Joh 19:42 There, then, because of the Preparation Day of the Yehuḏim, they laid יהושע, because the tomb was near.
Yep, they were in a hurry.
Verse 7 – Seed singular not plural. Please refer to Gal 3:16. Sounds like John 3:16 doesn’t it. It is as misquoted as the other.
Verse 8 – Remember, at this time Beyth El is called Luz. It was not until the time of Ya’aqob that it was renamed Beyth El. “called on the Name of יהוה.” You see, the Name of YHVH is hidden as god or lord. Why would you call YHVH Lord when lord means Ba’al in Hebrew. Why would you hide the Name of YHVH in the first place? To deceive, maybe?
Verse 9 – “continuing toward the South.” The word for south is Negeb(Negev) which is the southernmost portion of modern day Israel. This is not a mistake or a coincidence but was a matter of translation and universally agreed upon by both Egyptian and Israeli in 1977-78 when the boundary was reestablished. The Brook of Egypt, a.k.a. River of Egypt or Wadi El ‘Arish has always been the recognized boundary of Israel down through thousands of years of history. There was no debate about this principle.
Verse 10 – The same problem that affected Joseph also affected Abram.
Verses 11-15 – Many people today do not consider a woman in her 60’s, 70’s or 80’s as beautiful. I do. Here is the thing that I think I understand about Abram’s relationship with Sarai. Please work with me on this. Sometimes, when you find a deal that is too good to be true you just have to touch it to make sure you’re not dreaming. I think that that is the relationship Abram had with Sarai. This is going to happen more than once. I can sympathize with Abram. I have had men ask me if they could touch my wife’s hair. “Sure, go ahead, if you don’t want to ever use that arm again. Help yourself.” You do not touch my wife, period. Seriously, not only that, people were still living to be 100+ on an average. The body did not degrade as quickly as they do now because of the narrow band of the UV rays bombarding the Earth at that time. The Egyptian “border patrol” told the Pharaoh how beautiful Sarai was. So, in modern parlance, she was a hottie.
Why would Abram ask Sarai to lie? Gen 20:12 “And yet, she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. It wasn’t a lie, it just wasn’t the whole truth and half a truth is a whole lie. Let me be clear about this, I want other men to know Von is my wife from the outset. That way, when you get hurt, you will know why. Now, here is the exception: if she hugs you, then that is okay. Just don’t hang on too long. ((Notice there is no “LOL” or smiley emoji after this line.)) Therefore, I do have a serious problem with Abram’s attitude. Someone might say, “If you were married to _______________ then you would understand.” No! It doesn’t work like that.” There is no name you could insert in that blank that would change my mind. None. I know that I am repeating myself but it is because I cannot understand Abram’s attitude and therefore is a puzzle to me.
Verse 16 – There is more than one source that points out the fact that this is where Abram was given Hagar who was one of the Pharaoh’s younger daughters. (Not in line to inherit the throne. The title of nobility was in the woman’s bloodline not the man’s. That is why so many Pharaoh’s married their sisters so that they could inherit the throne. Believe me, this will have significance later on. Really big.)
Verses 18-20 – Look closely at Verse 17, But יהוה plagued (H853) Pharaoh and his house Remember, I have told you that the Aramaic word for “Word” is Mamre or Memra(h) and that the Word of Elohim brought the plagues on Egypt in Shemoth, according to the Aramaic Scriptures. Here we see the את in relation to a plague of Egypt. Once again I believe it serves as a “prophetic” marker in Scripture to focus our attention on a definite place to search the matter out: Pro_25:2 It is the esteem of Elohim to hide a matter, And the esteem of sovereigns to search out a matter. And we are more than conquerors.
Ahavah vberakhot
