We have seen in the writings of Yohannon that he uses a devise, or I would say a literary signature, of embedding 7’s in his narrative. Also, Yohannon writes topologically rather than chronologically and will say something out of chronological order to explain in his current narrative. He does this both in Revelation and also his Besorah. What if we could detect something like this in the narrative of Yoseph? Would it be important or even relevant? Wouldn’t it be fun to try? Let’s look and see if we can detect a pattern in the narrative of Yoseph.
- Ya’aqob marries 2 wives, Leah first due to trickery and then Rahel, whom he truly loves.
- Each wife is given a handmaiden by their father (2 handmaidens/concubines)
- Ya’aqob works for Laban 20 years and his wages are changed 10 times. (20 ÷ 10 = 2)
- Yosef is born to his father’s second wife or wife #2.
- Ya’aqob splits his party into two groups.
- Ya’aqob has his second encounter with YHVH’s Messenger.
- The two brothers, Ya’aqob and Esau reunite.
- Rahel has a seond child, Benyamin before dying.
- Two son of Ya’aqob kill the men of Shekem for hubmling their sister, Dinah.
- Ya’aqob admonishes Shim’on and Levi for their actions.
- Re’uben sleeps with Bilhah and now Ya’aqob can only sleep with Leah and Zilpah.
- The two brothers, Ya’aqob and Esau, bury their father, Yitsaq.
- Yoseph has two dreams: Sun, moon and stars and sheaves bow down.
- Yoseph has to go to 2 differeent towns to find his brothers.
- Yoseph is sold for 20 pieces of silver (2×10= 20).
- Yehudah had three sons and two died for practicing birth control.
- Tamar tricks Yehudah and she has 2 sons by her father-in-law, Yehudah.
- In Mitsrayim Yoseph finds favor with two masters, Botiphar and the prison warden.
- In prison Yoseph cares for 2 of Pharaoh’s servants; the chief cup bearer and the chief baker.
- The two men each have a dream = 2 dreams. Yoseph interprets them.
- Two years later the chief cup bearer remembers Yoseph.
- Pharaoh has two different dreams.
- Yoseph interprets Pharaoh’s 2 dreams.
- Yoseph is given two witnesses of his authority Pharaoh’s signet ring and a golden necklace.
- Like his father Ya’aqob, Yoseph now has two names Zaphnath-Pa‛něaḥ and Yoseph.
- Yoseph will now ride in the second chariot or chariot #2.
- Yoseph will be second to Pharaoh only in the throne room.
- Yoseph’s wife, Asenath, has two sons; Mannasheh and Ephrayim.
- Yoseph is the Master over Egypt at 30 years old. ((Luke 3:23))
- Yoseph and Shim’on remain in Mitsrayim and the 10 go North back to Yisra’el, their father.
- Ya’aqob now counts 2 sons as lost, Yoseph and Shim’on.
- Re’uben pledges the lives of his 2 sons in exchange for Binyamin.
- Yehudah pledges his life for that of Binyamin.
- The brothers go back a second time.
- They take with them double or 2x’s the amount of silver for grain.
- Yoseph serves 5 portions which 2.5 trips to accomplish (2 hands full twice and one hand full).
This brings us up to our last study on Bereshith. These are just some coincidences that I noticed in the life of Yoseph. Sure looks curious to me.
